What is the name of my DS nursery friend?

DS is 2 nearly 3. His speach is (usually) very articulate. He has never really had "baby talk"

He has been talking about his new friend at nursery. He loves playing with her. He wants her to come for tea. That's great. Except he says her name is Pancake. Which obviously cannot be the case. So what is her name??

I'm hoping Pancake is a pet name for Pandora!

My DS has friends called Ostrich (Astrid), Magnets (Magnus), Microwave (???), Flat (Vlad), and Shoopy (???).

DS has a baby called Lego at nursery, his name is Logan

DD kept saying she'd been playing with Idiot at nursery. Took a while to work out, by examining coat pegs, it was Elliott.

HennyPennyHorror · 25/06/2019 08:07

I kind of like it! Pancake! Like a friend of Strawberry Shortcake!

Papergirl1968 · 25/06/2019 08:09

My niece used to talk about a boy called Wolf when she started primary.
Turned out to be Ralph.

Papergirl1968 · 25/06/2019 08:18

Slightly off topic but dd, 15, was reading out her grandmother’s shopping list yesterday, which included “Polish handwash.” Polish as in people from Poland.
For a mad moment I wondered how Polish handwash was different to British handwash and where I’d get such a thing without a trip over to Warsaw. Then the penny dropped. Ah, that would be furniture polish and handwash then.

Ds3 had friends in Primary twins called Nitro and Turbo.
Ds4 hangs out with a Shine whose little brother is Rain :D

It makes me wonder why people hate their child so much that they'd give them a stupid name.

Snog · 25/06/2019 08:24

My fave mumsnet thread ever

LemonBreeland · 25/06/2019 08:31

I think I am with the posters who are more shocked at Keith than Pancake.

Ellmau · 25/06/2019 08:33

The more I read it, the more I think pancake is actually quite a cute nickname. Maybe not for a real name though. Can you imagine applying for a job when you're older? What kind of job could you do with that name

Easy - she calls herself Pan when she's older, and people assume it's really short for Pansy or Pandora.

I reckon Keith is named for beloved but tragically deceased grandad.

NeverSayFreelance · 25/06/2019 08:33

This is the best thread ever Grin

StealthPolarBear · 25/06/2019 08:35

DD used to talk about Abby-girl a lot. I thought thay was an excellent interpretation of Abigail!

Myusernameismud · 25/06/2019 08:47

Oh and my sister came home from school talking about a girl called Hammer Treats. It took my mum months to discover her name was Hannah, surname Triggs.

florentina1 · 25/06/2019 08:54

My son used to tell me about his best friend, a boy called Valerie. I said are you sure it is not a girl, but he was convinced Valerie was a boy. Eventually Valerie came for tea and most definitely was a boy. His parents were Russian .

amusedbush · 25/06/2019 09:08

Baby Keith Grin

That's on par with my cousin's toddler called Peter. When she announced his name I assumed he'd come out driving a bus and sporting a football tattoo Grin

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 25/06/2019 09:09

Valerie as a boy doesn't surprise me - there are lots of names that people might perceive to be "girls' names" that are traditionally or originally male. We've had one on here already - Valentine - but also Carol, Hillary, Leslie, Lindsay, Beverly, Meredith...

Sasha is very common as a boy's name in Russia as a short form for Alexander.

Ohyesiam · 25/06/2019 09:18

My bf was called pancake at school. But only by a nasty boy, because she was flat chestedShock

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 25/06/2019 09:24

Anyone else got a sudden craving?

IvanaPee · 25/06/2019 09:32

My son played with Melon for two years before we figured out it was Lennon.

He’d heard Lennon as lemon then confused lemon with melon 🙄🙄🙄

Pancake though...wow. Almost as bad as Keith! 😂

DottieLottie1 · 25/06/2019 09:32

@StealthPolarBear , my DD used to say Abby-girl too

@littlemissmoomoo it's not maybe double barrelled?

Anne-Kate?

DottieLottie1 · 25/06/2019 09:35

Sorry totally missed she is indeed Pancake.

She won't come across another apart from the breakfast queue at an all inclusive.

moonpiggle · 25/06/2019 09:38
