What is the name of my DS nursery friend?

DS is 2 nearly 3. His speach is (usually) very articulate. He has never really had "baby talk"

He has been talking about his new friend at nursery. He loves playing with her. He wants her to come for tea. That's great. Except he says her name is Pancake. Which obviously cannot be the case. So what is her name??

My 3 year old had a little boy called Dickerlin in her Playball class. Which was taught by a South African lady.
Wouldn't hear of alternative suggestions.

Turns out the child's name was Declan.

"Old people names" are definitely making a comeback. My colleague has just named his son Frank. Wouldn't love Keith though
esp when pronounced Keef

Grin Oh

Nofucksleft · 26/06/2019 22:29

You totally have to find out the real name can't wait

I know someone who's daughter is Pumpkin. Proper registered name, not a nickname

Carpetburns · 26/06/2019 22:33

@RageAgainstTheVendingMachine
 Well, that's a crepe name.

Very good Grin

PancakeAndKeith · 26/06/2019 22:34

I have name changed in honour of this thread.

millimat · 26/06/2019 22:43

Great thread Grin
Favourite one's row da boat ( that's just so cute). I genuinely feel sorry for the child named Chaos. What parent would call their child that?
My ds went to nursery and reception with a child called Lukansam. It took a year of him talking about this child before we meet mum. Turns out it was twins - luke and Sam Confused

pictish · 26/06/2019 22:49

My favourite has been Tuna for Jonah because actually, you can see how that one occurred. I have loved this thread. Another favourite was Fairytits for Verity.

Bless these wee kids who know little of the world yet and make an assumption based on logic and what they do know. It’s so funny.

SydneyCarton · 26/06/2019 22:52

Freezer?!

Yup. He's probably about 23 now 😂

I came home from nursery and told my mum all about the baby there called Freezer. Turns out his grandma had a very strong Scottish accent and had been actually dropping off “wee Fraser”......

PostmistressMcColl · 26/06/2019 22:55

littlemissmoomoo when my daughter was about your son's age she had an imaginary friend who she used to talk about very convincingly, could Pancake be a (brilliantly named!) imaginary buddy do you think?!

drspouse · 26/06/2019 22:56

@SeaToSki there are two of me if you use my full first name, and one with the shortening I always use.
I did work briefly over there and my full name may still be on a database so there's possibly only one more.
My last name is quite English though and there's at least 5 adults in the UK if I Google.
DS has 16 and DD 180 (she has an old lady name and they have DH's common surname).

drspouse · 26/06/2019 22:57

Ooh and NO DH alter ego. He has a very common Welsh first name that NOBODY could spell in the US.
But in Wales there are 1000s of him.

TwoPupsAndaHamster · 26/06/2019 23:05

GD's school, boys in class one called Burberry, the other Deisel - I shit you not

Yep. DGS has a Deisel in his class, along with a Tulip, Mary- Weather, Hunkin, Bonsai and Jaffa...to name a few (lots of Jaydens, Kaydens, Haydens) And posters laugh at Keith? 🤷‍♀️

In my class (in the year dot 😉) We had Gary, Keith, Gareth, Andrew, Kevin, Anthony, Michael, Stephen, Sian, Alison, Wendy, Catherine, Karen, Lynne, Mark, Sarah, Timothy, Jonathan ......

It won't be long before these "old fashioned" names become as popular as Archie, William, Trevor, George, Amelia, Grace, Esme, Esther, Sebastian, Harry, Henry etc are now.

The last names I remember as names of my friends grandparents....But all are popular now.

Gribbie · 26/06/2019 23:05

My DD5 was very annoyed yesterday because her best friend called her “sonic the head shot”

millimat · 26/06/2019 23:07

I'm unique in the US Grinbut tbh am 99.9999% certain I'm unique in the world.

stucknoue · 26/06/2019 23:07

Talking of funny names, there were sisters called Chardonnay and Merlot at my kids former school, yes one was blonde, one was auburn. Very small school and we were new, a parent who was friendly towards me (a rarity, so cliquey) went into giggles telling me, they left after our first year I never spoke to the mum but she pretty much looked like you can imagine, hair, nails, full make up at 8.30 am and a thing for leopard print, a living stereotype, but the girls im told were sweet and quite bright

anon812 · 26/06/2019 23:07

Kiwi = Kayleigh ?

llangennith · 26/06/2019 23:08

When DS was 2 his best friend was Libet. DS and his friend were obsessed with 'army men' and wore khaki clothes to nursery every day. I later found out it was a girl named Elizabeth.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 26/06/2019 23:09

Is Trevor popular?

millimat · 26/06/2019 23:09

Names are funny though. I can't imagine calling a baby Wendy or Sarah or Philip even though my class at school had loads of them! I remember being shocked hearing about a Leo but it's now quite common.

HebeMumsnet · 26/06/2019 23:10

One of my DCs had a 'colleague' at playgroup called 'Halloumi'. Turned out to be 'Naomi'. Bloody middle class three-year-olds!

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 26/06/2019 23:11

Sorry that was a response to TwoPupsAndaHamster

I know lots of those names are popular but is Trevor a typo?

TwoPupsAndaHamster · 26/06/2019 23:16

Trevor is a very popular name for baby boys here and has been for around 3 years...

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 26/06/2019 23:19

TwoPupsAndaHamster

Wow. That’s not one that’s made it to my bit of Yorks yet.
It’s still very much in the realms of Nigel, Dennis and Colin here. I wouldn’t have expected Trev to have had its resurgence just yet.

TwoPupsAndaHamster · 26/06/2019 23:26

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer I think I quite like Trevor now (although it took a while) I like it much better than Amelia or Henry. Each to their own I guess 🤷‍♀️
