My fancy one is coronation chicken on malted brown bread with spinach leaves.
My secret shame one is cheese, mayo, cucumber and crisp sandwich on white bread.

I now want both for dinner Grin

Rare roast beef with horseradish

Aberforthsgoat · 22/06/2019 16:34

sausage mash and gravy holy shit, game changer

I had forgotten about fish finger sandwiches 😱

My pregnancy craving at the moment is sandwiches but none seem to satisfy me! I clearly need to work my way through this thread and try each combination 😁

Of course there's always the legendary fried egg sandwich. In white bread. With sliced sausage.

The messiest sandwich in the world, only to be eaten in the utmost solitude, with paper towels at the ready.

Ciabatta or toasted sourdough. With butter roasted chicken, crispy streaky bacon and mayonnaise.

Sourdough with mustard, salt beef and gherkins Or pastrami, mustard and saurkraut. Similar but different and delicious. Feeling fancy? Add some cheese.

Round lettuce, turkey slices, ham slices, cheddar, tomato and mayonnaise, on brown bread, lightly toasted if you like.

Strong cheddar Cheese and pickle on thick bakery loaf. Your choice of white or granary Grin

Brief and grape (soft white bread or crusty)

Fish fingers, lettuce and tartare sauce, white sandwich bread.

OverthinkingThis · 22/06/2019 16:44

Smoked streaky bacon and a runny fried egg on cheap white bread with lurpak

cwg1 · 22/06/2019 16:51

Oh, yes - tongue! Haven't had it for ages. With either tomato and cucumber or piccalilli. The Co-op used to do a very good breakfast bap - bacon, sausage and egg. For a picnic, I like to do small bridge rolls with ham and tomato, tuna mayo and cucumber, and egg mayo and cress. The current Co-op pork sausages are, for me, perfect - serve on toasted white bread with a nice fruit chutney. My old Dad was fond of a watercress butty on brown bread-and-butter and so am I Smile

Nanamilly · 22/06/2019 16:55

For me it’s as simple as an old fashioned boiled egg sandwich.

Chickydoo · 22/06/2019 17:07

Cream cheese and celery on homemade white soft bread

PlatypusPie · 22/06/2019 17:18

@Hoppinggreen Egg mayo on granary with a couple of anchovies That used to be my weekly treat, made up for me by a now defunct sandwich bar in Holborn (London) - perfect blend of savoury and creamy.

I’m not actually much of a sandwich fan now - will eat when its the only viable option. Preference then is for a sliced egg and sliced tomato on wholemeal.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 22/06/2019 17:23

I have 2.

Cold hard boiled egg slices on fresh white bread with butter and loads of salt.

Cheese, salad and salad cream on fresh bread rolls.

Aberforthsgoat · 22/06/2019 17:53

My Nan used to love cold Yorkshire puddings dipped in warm gravy or spread with jam and put in a sandwich of thickly buttered bread.
Never got into them myself though

I LOVE sandwiches. When the family are away I order a mixed platter and with a few bags of crisps and some fruit it can keep m going for a weekend.

The best ever sandwich is the long defunct and sadly missed M&S chicken tikka sandwich on malted granary bread with a mint and yoghurt dressing. My mouth is watering just writing this.

JulianFarquaarMP · 22/06/2019 17:56

OMG I had not realised what a complete and utter sandwich amateur I am. I am saving this thread for inspiration

Swedetalker · 22/06/2019 17:58

Cheap white bread, sausages (fried, then sliced down the middle and fried a bit more aka their insides are crispy), butter and brown sauce.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 22/06/2019 18:01

Egg mayo as a cold sandwich.
Chip butty with lots of butter and salad cream as a hot sandwich! drools

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 22/06/2019 18:03

Oh god, I love sandwiches 😍

My perfect sandwich is some kind of crusty baguette with salted butter, garlicky hummus, thinly sliced spicy salami and halved cherry tomatoes 😋 Maybe even a few green olives.

Also love tuna mayo and sliced tomato (NOT cucumber, cucumber is wrong) and bacon, gorgonzola & ketchup.

I want to go and make one now ...!

TheQueef · 22/06/2019 18:03

I think hot and cold sandwiches are completely separate categories.
I would go sausage butty with thick best butter and then egg banjo (fried egg breadcake) second in hot sandwiches.

MyAuntyBadger · 22/06/2019 18:05

Warburtons white toasty bread with butter, seriously strong cheese spread and Walkers salt and vinegar crisps.
I'm looking forward to trying some of these suggestions, and I'd forgotten about banana.
Did anyone else have salad cream sandwiches as a child? Just salad cream, nothing else.
