It seems to be a crime that should have been relatively easy to solve. People are quite rightly deeply suspicious and cynical.

SuePerbly · 09/06/2019 21:49

Even as a kid, I loathed Michael Barrymore. Laughing at people, not with them, is a sure sign of someone being an arsehole.

And, funnily enough, he only punched down towards the elderly, young or otherwise vulnerable, never up to those who are fairer game.

RiversDisguise · 09/06/2019 22:00

Bixter

@RiversDisguise In fairness to Morgan, though, I don't think he ever held a.party where a young man ended up raped and dead

That's libellous - I suggest you delete your comment.

Nope, no libel there.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 09/06/2019 22:06

Surprised there are people who like Piers Morgan.

But also surprised Trump was made president, Brexit is happening and Trump was heralded as a new king by certain people in England last week 🤷‍♀️

SouthWestmom · 09/06/2019 22:15

According to stuff online, there were nine people apparently incl Barrymore and the pool thermometer and a door handle were missing, someone alleged they saw Barrymore put coke on SL gums and later leave with clothing. It just seems such a messy, horrible thing to happen and I'm so sorry for his family not to have a resolution and anyone else there who is innocent but tainted by association incl Barrymore who says he left due to the likely press arrivals and told his PA where he would be.

Cherrysoup · 09/06/2019 23:43

Genuinely thought he was dead and was reading this thread wondering why everyone was referring to him in the present tense! Duh!

SkintAsASkintThing · 10/06/2019 00:34

My mum was in abusive relationships her entire life and she hated MB. Refused to have him on and would get quite angry about it if we were caught watching him.

She always said there was something not right about him (( had the same reaction to JS )) and he was hiding something.

Bixter · 10/06/2019 07:58

@RiversDisguise oh so you know he was raped? My apologies,I hadn't realised you knew more than the coroner.

RiversDisguise · 10/06/2019 08:13

that arrest was made on suspicion of rape as the internal injuries of the victim were consistent with that

The victim was not by all accounts gay

RiversDisguise · 10/06/2019 08:19

"The clinical description of the internal injuries found in Stuart Lubbock's body is graphic, and stomach-turning, and details the probable cause: "the insertion of some firm object". Lubbock reads with the emphasis of someone so familiar with the words that he has passed beyond the reach of their shock. "My point," he concludes, "is the police knew about those injuries from day one. It should have been a suspicious death, which should have led to a murder inquiry. Cos those anal injuries killed Stuart.""

From the Guardian interview with the victim's father

Sobering reading

Fabellini · 10/06/2019 08:33

I don’t like Piers Morgan at all - but I’ve watched all of the Life Stories because he does actually do a good interview and won’t really let people off the hook about answering questions they might prefer not to.
I can’t stand Michael Barrymore, never could. I always thought he was arrogant, unfunny, and unkind.
Nothing about his interview changed my mind. He was very self pitying, but didn’t seem to care much about Stuart Lubbock or his family, just moaned about how hard it had been for him.
However, I don’t think his brand of “humour” would have survived til now anyway, even without the scandal, so he was always going to end up bitter and angry.

Triglesoffy · 10/06/2019 08:34

Poor Stuart.

I watched MB on Come Dine with Me. He was vile to the hosts all week and actively sabotaged their evenings. Then he hired a posh house, brought in a butler and silver candlesticks, was impeccably behaved and apologised for his behaviour and guess what? They forgave him and he won.

C*^t.

Bixter · 10/06/2019 09:19

@RiversDisguise yes but, you have to prove rape. He may have consented.

You don't know.

The coroner didn't know.

RiversDisguise · 10/06/2019 09:42

So do you believe that with

  • rapes which go unreported
  • rapes which the victim cannot report because they ended the night dead
  • rapes where the victim does not press charges for whatever reason (mental strain, advised they won't succeed, stigma, etc etc)
  • rapes where the trial collapses
  • rapes where no conviction was secured

... that no rapes can be said to have taken place because no rape was proven against a given defendant?

Do you believe Stuart's father is libellous if he says his son was raped? (since no one was jailed for his rape)

Do you believe women forced to have sex by their husbands before 1994 were not raped?

Do you believe rape is not a weapon of war merely because for the women who are forced to fuck at gunpoint, there is no one to report a crime to, and no trial takes place?

Stuart, a known hetereosexual, was found dead with horrific anal injuries- and you believe he consented to- be fucked to death?

BenWillbondsPants · 10/06/2019 09:54

@RiversDisguise I'm 100% with you on this one.

Bixter · 10/06/2019 11:45

@RiversDisguise

I believe in justice and unless proved beyond reasonable doubt, then a person or persons are not guilty.

As the coroner recorded.

You can argue as much as you like but you aren't right in this instance.

Unless as I keep saying, you were there and witnessed an offence.

As far as I'm concerned, you are now to be ignored as you clearly unable to grasp the law.

@RiversDisguise There you go, insulting me now, a sure way to lose an argument.

Bixter · 10/06/2019 11:50

@RiversDisguise run along there's a dear and amuse someone else.

BenWillbondsPants · 10/06/2019 11:51

@Bixter, with respect, do you believe that no one is responsible for Stuart Lubbock's death?

SouthWestmom · 10/06/2019 11:51

Wasn't it an open verdict? So no real answers either way but come on , it's bloody obvious at least one of the nine knows more

RiversDisguise · 10/06/2019 11:56

All you're doing is keeping this thread about Michael Barrymore in Active Threads.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 10/06/2019 12:00

Just because rapes are hard to prove, doesn't mean they didn't happen.

I'm with you on this one Rivers.

kaliaphimma · 10/06/2019 12:01

I'm guessing it could have been accidental.

There's no proof the anal sex wasn't consensual and no proof he was murdered.

He could easily have wandered out and gone fir a swim or fallen in, he had been drinking and taking drugs.
