I honestly don't understand how there is no answer for Stuart Lubbock's Family. Barrymore said last night there was something like four girls, four men , two gay? Or is that a different party?

How can that small number cover it up/not notice?

scarecrowhead · 09/06/2019 17:48

There's a clip somewhere of him trying to interview Spike Milligan, Spike ran rings around him

marvellousnightforamooncup · 09/06/2019 18:00

WTF is all this nonsense about Obama?

Hoppinggreen · 09/06/2019 18:15

I believe that something very nasty happened to Stuart Lubbock and I am sure that people who were there know exactly what and who was involved.
A. Star struck and probably very drunk young man was taken advantage of

Aquilla · 09/06/2019 18:29

Newsflash to mumsnet bubble inhabitants: not everyone worships Obama!

CJ201 · 09/06/2019 18:32

Just watched the Susan Boyle video. He's a bully. She was singing beautifully and he didn't like it coz the attention was not on him so he tried to sabotage her performance. What a cunt.

ooooohbetty · 09/06/2019 18:34

I didn't like him back in the day. Didn't think he was funny and thought there was something nasty about him. I watch a bit of the Piers Morgan interview and I still think the same about him.

CJ201 · 09/06/2019 18:35

Also if my memory serves me correctly, wasn't he also really nasty to Jodie Marsh on Celebrity BB?

ooooohbetty · 09/06/2019 18:36

I knew someone who was a contestant on a quiz show he compared. They were a really really funny person and they said that he didn't like it when they said something funny on the show and made the audience laugh. Everything was all about him.

BenWillbondsPants · 09/06/2019 18:44

Barrymore's 'humour' has always been about humiliating people which is never funny.

I find him disingenuous and pathetic.

EastMidsGPs · 09/06/2019 18:53

In the early 80s when he was known but not the household name he became we went to see him in Bournemouth when on a family holiday. He treated members of the audience without respect and it formed my opinion of him. I have never watched him in anything since. Two parts of his show I still recall:
He 'jokingly' frog marched a man from the front row out of the auditorium - for no particular reason apart from it being supposedly funny. MB wouldn't let the man back in, leaving his wife sitting on her own.
He then manically bounced around the stage as Kenny the Kangeroo before selecting a woman from the audience to join him on stage. After a bit of joking around he put his head between her legs hoisted her onto his shoulders and bounced about the stage. It was very uncomfortable to watch as the woman was mortified and not enjoying herself at all. He got away with both incidents because of who he was. Not sure whether he was out of control or just had contempt for his paying audience.

SouthWestmom · 09/06/2019 18:59

It's interesting because I've started retreading old reports - in one Barrymore seems to suggest he got the injuries jumping in the pool (says a pc told him he got the same) or that the injuries were known until a day later.

I just don't understand how in a small group no one noticed. Unless he just fell in alone and didn't splash etc.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 09/06/2019 19:05

Newsflash for Aquilla: we know. However, opinions about Obama have no place on this thread about Michael Barrymore - don't you think?

I haven't seen the interview and I won't watch it as I can't stand PM.

I'm surprised Barrymore has only been sober for 10 years. This violence and murder took place at his party 18 years ago. You'd think a person would conclude they'd reached rock bottom at that time - even if they had nothing to do with the rape and murder, you might question your lifestyle and the people you were mixing with?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-138195/Barrymore-pool-inquest-Coroner-records-open-verdict.html

Verdict seems to indicate frustration that no one remembered or saw anything

Shockers · 09/06/2019 19:08

He was on a documentary about Larry Grayson on Friday night. He was very subdued on that. I was surprised to see him because of the death of the young man. I assumed he would’ve avoided the public eye.

BenWillbondsPants · 09/06/2019 19:12

Or that they claim to not remember.

I don't believe that someone doesn't know exactly what happened to Stuart Lubbock, of course they do.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 09/06/2019 19:34

@EastMidsGPs I saw the same show in Bournemouth with my parents as a child and I remember after the show we were all shocked at his behaviour and embarrassed for the poor audience members.

SouthWestmom · 09/06/2019 19:36

Yes it does mention loyalties changing over time and the police hoping for information in the future

EastMidsGPs · 09/06/2019 20:04

@AnneEyhtMeyer
It was awful wasn't it? even for the time (Jim Davidson et al ) it was beyond what could be described as comedy. Suspect his demographic of the time wouldn't dare complain. His behaviour with the woman on stage made me really uncomfortable at the time and appalled when I think of it since.

Bixter · 09/06/2019 20:07

@RiversDisguise In fairness to Morgan, though, I don't think he ever held a.party where a young man ended up raped and dead

That's libellous - I suggest you delete your comment.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 09/06/2019 20:12

@EastMidsGPs yes it was awful. I was quite young at the time, probably about 11 or 12 and I remember being shocked at him humiliating people. I also remember him being crude when talking to them. We were really surprised that he became a "family entertainer" on TV.

WineIsMyCarb · 09/06/2019 20:27

Watching now. 10 mins in. How controlling he is! Not surprising maybe, but PM is is a 'strong character' and Barrymore is managing the interview.

Singlenotsingle · 09/06/2019 21:26

SL was a young man who been at the pub and was invited back to MB's, along with others, to carry on partying. Literally, anyone could have done it. It could have been someone who had a grudge against him and followed them back to the house.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 09/06/2019 21:36

Yes but still very suspicious that no one at the party witnessed enough to have anyone arrested and investigated?
