Lots of practiced phrases I think?

The pauper and the princess
I fucked up alright, I fucked up

Etc

Soola · 09/06/2019 14:36

Credit to Susan Boyle for maintaining her composure and her lovely voice whilst he was praying about behind her.

Soola · 09/06/2019 14:36

Pratting not praying

Rickandportly · 09/06/2019 14:37

@Soola I know exactly what you mean. I had the same thing the first time I saw Obama on TV. It was very unnerving

GrimDamnFanjo · 09/06/2019 14:46

My view is that he was a very troubled man having spent years in the closet and he also had a really unpleasant side, treating Cheryl very badly and unkindly after he came out.
If that night he'd phoned the police, been there to help them, been upfront about drug use at his house and done everything he could to help Stuart's parents get answers then I think his career would have survived.
By only thinking of himself and running away he ended up in this situation.

Soola · 09/06/2019 14:48

@Rickandportly

Funny enough I hate Obama and feel he is a truly awful man but I haven’t had that weird experience I had with Barrymore.

Obama I would happily kick in the shins if I met him but Barrymore creeps me out completely and I would not want to be alone with him.

GrimDamnFanjo · 09/06/2019 14:49

By all accounts he did well on CBB, which makes me wonder if when you leave out his actions after Stuart's death, whether there was the will in the industry to help him keep a career?

Nemesia1264 · 09/06/2019 14:59

I always assumed his marriage was one of convenience.
Pretty sure his wife didn't realise that.
He treated her very badly,! I think they married a long time ?25 years.
Similar visceral reaction to Soola, he makes my skin crawl.

bigKiteFlying · 09/06/2019 15:04

I agree..

CantspellWontspell · 09/06/2019 15:17

His “humor” was alway predicated on humiliating others (often women). I dislike him greatly and I briefly lived next door to his driver in the mid 90’s and he didn’t have anything nice to say about him either.

longwayoff · 09/06/2019 15:55

From reading Cheryl's book, I assumed that MB and Cheryl's father were very close and that she and her dad managed to 'keep him under control' while he was alive. He must have had a very firm hand. Once he was gone, MB went into freefall.

longwayoff · 09/06/2019 15:58

Cheryl was his manager, fanjo. Trash your manager at your peril, as Anthea Turner could confirm.

ChequerBoard · 09/06/2019 16:08

WTF would you hate Obama and compare him to a third rate ex TV presenter?!?

Mammyloveswine · 09/06/2019 16:10

That video is shocking...was he trying to look up her skirt?? And then pointing to his groin??

Then snogging her at the end!

Appalling and actually only 25 years ago. Thank god that would be completely unacceptable nowadays!

I was very surprised that Michael declared himself 10 years sober last night, i thought his speech was slurred and his behaviour was erratic.

I used to love my kind of people as a child Blush

Rarfy · 09/06/2019 16:13

I was brought up watching Michael Barrymore and always found him funny but I was a child and didn't see some of the things he did then for what they are now. Was shocked to watch both videos linked through adult eyes.

I found it really sad watching him last night, he couldn't really be himself. Kept going into showman mode. I was also very surprised to learn he had been sober so long as I honestly thought he was drunk or on drugs during the interview.

I can't comment much on the pool situation as I was only a child when that happened but as an adult, who partied hard in their twenties, it may be that he just didn't know what happened to Stuart. Very sad for Stuarts family that they have never found out what truly happened but I'm not sure Michael will have the answers.

howwudufeel · 09/06/2019 16:14

He was looking up her skirt then describing her knickers to the audience. Utterly grim.

LoafofSellotape · 09/06/2019 16:17

Good God!! I only watched a bit ,that's disgusting !

bibbitybobbityyhat · 09/06/2019 16:17

That's it. I just can't take anyone seriously who would put this sentence on the internet

"Funny enough I hate Obama and feel he is a truly awful man".

Barrymore's behaviour after the murder at his party is why people no longer like or trust him, the great self-pitying oaf.

HelenaDove · 09/06/2019 16:29

Didnt watch this last night...............watched Killing Eve. What i remember about his time in CBB is the bloody disgusting bullying of Jodie Marsh.

TwinklyMummaLuvsHerBubba89 · 09/06/2019 17:17

The Obama comments have me rolling my eyes harder than I knew was possible.

Bluerussian · 09/06/2019 17:20

I watched it this afternoon and found it very moving. I feel Barrymore has been much maligned. Certainly I got no feeling that there was anything sinister about him, sure he made mistakes but so do most of us. I hope the interview was cathartic for him.

Lovestonap · 09/06/2019 17:34

Barrymore - dickhead, no question. A real comedian laughs with people and at himself, not at other people (Frankie Boyle take note!)

And to some of the others expressing opinions on this thread, you spelt "Osama" wrong Grin

KnifeAngel · 09/06/2019 17:35

I like him and always have. I believe he had nothing to do with the sad death. His life has been ruined by the incident.

I like Piers too.

Clawdy · 09/06/2019 17:38

Had never seen the Susan Boyle clip, what hateful behaviour towards a vulnerable woman.

Hoppinggreen · 09/06/2019 17:40

I always hated the way he bullied people on his TV shows - it was done under the guise of “having a laugh” but it was definitely bullying IMO
