Please be gentle, I took a huge step today in trying to accept my new post partum body (ds 13 months). Can I get sway with wearing this or does it look utterly ridiculous.

Can I wear this?

How old are you? And what shops do you usually like?

Watermelon2019 · 08/06/2019 22:03

@ohyesiam...it's two fold really, I want to get back up to date fashion wise as it all went to pot around pregnancy, however on top of that I work in demanding job in a specific non clothing relates fashion industry, meetings with potential clients etc and there is an expectation to be "fashionable"...that said, being casual isn't an issue, so crop tops, jeans , jogging bottoms, it's all fine in our industry.

I'll be brutal.
None of those combos does you any favours whatsoever. The top is shapeless and looks badly cut. All of the trousers have a terrible fit one way or another and make you look far bigger than you are.
Do yourself a favour and keep looking!

I am 30, I like new look, h and m, topshop, asos...typical shops really.

What about wrap tops that are fitted around the top, come in at the waist and then flare out a bit? I find these are flattering for bigger chests. I can’t wear round or crew neck stuff, makes me look like a brick crap house 😂

Mokepon · 08/06/2019 22:05

I think if you want to wear cropped tops then fitted high waisted jeans would look great.

Ohyesiam · 08/06/2019 22:13

Oh god I'm not doing well, what happened to me, I used to be good at this stuff!
I went on a two day shopping spree this week and tried on dozens of garments. I was really shocked at the poor cut and dreadful quality fabrics. Some felt like they were made of plastic. Anything that felt vaguely better quality was ££. Lots of nylon dresses for over£100?

So it may not be you op.

Rarfy · 08/06/2019 22:14

I have seen loads of nice jumpsuit type loose trousers in the shops lately. Would something like that with a tight top underneath work?

Also I know you said no skirts but wrap midi skirt would look great with a shorter top or body and converse or vans or something so not too girly?

Do you really like the crop top?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/06/2019 22:16

I think you need to look for some decent fitting non-ripped jeans and some well fitted t-shirts as a starting point. Topshop often does decent jeans - or try M&S.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/06/2019 22:17

Nice skirt!

DragonMamma · 08/06/2019 22:17

I think the top is the problem. It looks too small - especially around the tops of your arms.

The ripped jeans are a bit too try hard but the second pair of bottoms look ok.

I think you just need to give up on the top OP. As somebody said upthread, crop tops don’t do much for most people.

dudsville · 08/06/2019 22:18

You do have a great body OP. You're 20 yrs younger than me so I saw your first outfit as a gym one, but I'm not in the loop. I thought the ripped jeans looked nice and comfortable.

lilpumpsmum · 08/06/2019 22:18

Honestly I think you need to forget the midriff tops. I would say this to anyone over the age of 24 TBF.

UNLESS you have high waisted jeans/trousers and a cropped top that isn't fitted. So just sort of stops under the boobs loosely. THAT can look great.

You have a great body don't be disheartened.

Have you tried some skinny high waist jeans ? Topshop kind of ones? Then a cropped jersey/hoody style top over?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/06/2019 22:19

Try the Topshop Mom jeans rolled up maybe. Or jaime for skinny.

Watermelon2019 · 08/06/2019 22:21

I haven't really thought to try skinny jeans as I don't think I have the body for them, to me they are for slim people.

kaytee87 · 08/06/2019 22:22

Try one of those tops that's tied at the front with a pair of mom jeans. There's lots of those tops in shops just now. They don't show actual flesh but flatter your shape if you know what I mean.

BackwardsGoing · 08/06/2019 22:22

I think you look great in the black trousers. I wish I could wear trousers as well as you.

A v neck or scoop neck top would be better on you, round necks are really unflattering unless you have a very boyish figure.

Hobbs do long sleeve and short sleeve t shirts with a scoop neck in lots of different colours which aren't baggy but are flattering if you are self conscious about your middle. They are pricier but they last for years and wash really well - I have two which are 5+ years old.

lilpumpsmum · 08/06/2019 22:24

Noooo skinny jeans look great on most shapes. My fave is skinny jeans with a loose shirt tucked in just at the front, I feel like it gives a slimmer illusion.... add a nice belt and it's "an outfit". Lol

SinkGirl · 08/06/2019 22:29

Seriously, M&S high waisted skinny jeggings in dark blue - £19.50, so flattering, keep their shape, wash well... I live in them!

cardibach · 08/06/2019 22:30

I’m a size 20 and I wear skinny jeans...just not with a crop top! I wear a variety of loser, draped tops over them covering stomach and derrière. Get lots of compliments.

Nofunkingworriesmate · 08/06/2019 22:32

I absolutely luuuurve the second two trousers especially the back cropped pair
Hate first pics as trousers look thin see through but would be fine with bagier top, the rule I stick to is only one half of your body should be tight fitting, therefore the cropped t shirt looks lush with the second black trousers ( but needs to be tad longer)
Personally I don’t like cropped tops even on women who flat 6 packs tums .... it’s reslly hard dressing for a new body shape but I’m twice your size and have been for decades so I’ve got it down to an art form xx please be grateful for your healthy and. Relatively small bod it could be so much worse xxx

WifOfBif · 08/06/2019 22:42

Your figure is incredible and I LOVE the ripped jeans on you.

You wear what you feel comfortable in.
