Heart Radio Breakfast Show

Anyone else really disappointed by what Heart have done with their breakfast show?

I loved our local presenters, turned the radio on this morning in the car to be greeted by Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden shrieking. They were both being smug with David Walliams, barely any music either.

I had to turn over in the end. So, so sad that my morning radio has disappeared with barely any warning.

They must have known the reaction as it was kept on the downlow.

This ^
I know it must have been released some time ago, but it certainly hasn't been talked about / advertised on the actual stations. Which is odd, as they do tend to spend a lot of time telling you what is "coming up next week".
Obviously it is part of a money making plan, but if JT and AH are being paid what they are rumoured to be, it can't save that much surely ? Even before you take into account the millions that will be leaving, looking for the local radio presenters they appreciate.

Bluetrews25 · 04/06/2019 14:50

PP said DJs were banned from working for another station for 3 months.
I too would like to know where Joel and Lorna are now, as they made my morning commute enjoyable.

Ginnymweasley · 04/06/2019 14:58

I also recommend Greg James in radio 1. Very funny, his music selection is quite good, doesnt take himself seriously at all.

Have the DJs lost their jobs then? That’s pretty rubbish for them.

littlepooch · 04/06/2019 15:13

But what's happened to the presenters they've let go? Have they all just lost their jobs? That seems v unfair and silly!

AH does my head in. I used to listen to R2, moved to heart as couldn't get used to Zoe Ball. I guess I'll have to give R1 a go (even though I'm not their target age group at all lol).

Not surprised they put that clause in, James Heming has been waking up Kent for almost twenty years, I imagine he’d have taken a huge chunk of his listeners with him if he’d gone straight to another station. He used to be a photographer, I imagine most of the DJs had other jobs on the go so good luck to them all! Wine Flowers

Matt and Michelle here (Oxfordshire) and I always listened to them on my way to work.. just friendly, funny cheerful morning stuff and really local travel news.
I've turned over to Jack FM. No way I am listening to AH and JD in the mornings :(

Seniorschoolmum · 04/06/2019 15:38

I’ve done two morning nhs and that’s enough. Sad

I’ve switched the radio to Breeze, see if they are any better.

Seniorschoolmum · 04/06/2019 15:38

NOT “nhs” -flippin’ auto text

heartknot · 04/06/2019 15:48

Loved Tom, Nicola and Jack. They were so funny. I'm not a morning person and they cheered me up on my way to work. Amanda Holden has the opposite effect.
T, N &J were locals with local knowledge and understanding. They were fab and a sad loss to my mornings Sad

AxCap · 04/06/2019 15:54

Same here. Moved to heart from Capital when they got rid of Des, Stephen and Amy and now it's happened again 🤦🏼‍♀️

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 04/06/2019 16:36

I'm gutted. Martin, Su and Alex were the highlight of my drive to work. I've switched to Radio Essex now.

I feel for for all those local presenters losing their jobs.

Not Heart, but Heartless.

ThePittts · 04/06/2019 16:41

Hate the new format, Amanda and Jamie are just not the same as our local people...Tom, Nicola and Jack were great !

EggsFried · 04/06/2019 17:35

I don't know whether this is the case for all regions, but in the West Midlands Ed and Gemma have been moved from the breakfast show to the 4-7pm slot, so they are still at Heart.

I'm another one who is really annoyed at what Heart have done- Ed James has been hosting the West Midlands breakfast show for as long as I can remember Sad

TheGrandHighWitch · 04/06/2019 17:41

I'm another former Heart listener who is now boycotting Heart radio and all other stations owned by their parent company Global. Was a bit of a nasty shock to be greeted by the voices of JT and AH yesterday morning (although it was arguably more effective at getting me out of bed quickly as I couldn't take much and had to rush to turn the radio off!). I didn't particularly like the music on heart as it was too repetitive and the competitions being plugged incessantly was vastly annoying as well. Pretty much the only reason I stuck with it for so long was because of my local presenters and the local news etc.

The three month ban on seeking radio work elsewhere sounds about right as none of my local presenters have mentioned moving elsewhere just yet. I have my fingers crossed that they go back into radio after the 3 months and all their listeners follow them.

ForalltheSaints · 04/06/2019 18:01

The last decent breakfast show ended in December 2009, when Terry Wogan ended his show. Mark and Lard was the last decent Radio 1 breakfast show.

bobbieflekman · 04/06/2019 18:06

Another former Heart Sussex breakfast fan here. Loved Tom, Nicola and Jack. I have already switched to Radio 2 and won't be going back.

sausage1968 · 04/06/2019 18:20

my drive to work has been ruined....used to laugh all the way here listening to Joel and Lorna Sad

This is spot on.

Danceswithlightning · 05/06/2019 05:31

I used to love travelling round listening to the different presenters. Never listened to my local Ivan and Emma as I went to school with one of them and they made my life a misery.

DeltaFlyer · 05/06/2019 05:59

I used to love listening to dixie and emma on my way to work.
Listening to AH and JT made me want to drive into a wall - so monotonous and dull. I had the radio on for 10 minutes and didn't hear any music as there were busy waffling on about Britain's got talent.
Had to turn it off

Sammysquiz · 05/06/2019 06:46

Heart are rightly getting ripped to shreds for this on social media. The local presenters were the only good thing about the station! I’m always bemused about why they play the same handful of songs all the time - usually I’d hear some of the same songs on the afternoon school run that I’d heard that morning on the way in. But I put up with that because I enjoyed the humour and local knowledge of the presenters so much.

Ohnotanothernamechange · 05/06/2019 07:53

I know for a fact that lots of people who worked for Global (the company who own Heart, Capital and Smooth) have lost their jobs because of this. People who've worked in our local studios for years, since before it as even a Heart station. It's a bloody disgrace. Not helped by the fact that Amanda Holden is one of the most hideous celebrities there is.

Look at Hearts Facebook page. People all over the country are fuming.

IndigoSpritz · 05/06/2019 08:06

Try plugging in an MP3 player or putting a CD on. Alternatively, switch off.

GoldenRuby · 05/06/2019 08:37

I'm in London and like a previous poster I really like Jamie and Emma. Lucy was ok. Amanda is just awful - really dull or fake over animated, not genuine. I'm going to switch to another breakfast show. I love JK and Kelly Brook on drive time though, very funny.
