"Forgotten" 80s songs or hidden gems

Are there any songs from the 80s that you miss not hearing anymore or that never get played on Radio 2 or other nostalgia type music programmes?

I've put together an 80s quiz and one of them is a music round.Given that there will participants born after 1989, I didn't want to make it too ageist. I have however added International Rescue by Fuzzbox, as the obscure one in the list.

Laurajjj · 04/06/2019 22:43

Ah I thought it was on the cusp of the turn of the decade. Couldn't remember which side it was on. Its the only song of their's I like. It reminds me of an old school friend.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 04/06/2019 22:48

just checked - it was on their 1979 album Tusk and then released as a single in december 1979 and peaked at number 37 in January 1980

so we can include it :)

@claptomania - The Promise by When In Rome

!! I've always like that but never knew who it was. I think i thought it was OMD. Sounds a tiny bit like them ...

claptomania · 05/06/2019 15:13

@laiste it does! I think it’s a bit of a one hit wonder (in fact not sure it was even a hit, exactly)

twosoups1972 · 05/06/2019 16:42

All about Eve - Martha's Harbour

I'd forgotten about this - beautiful song.

Such a great thread, I remember so many of these songs.

What's the best radio station for 80s tunes please?

twosoups1972 · 05/06/2019 16:44

Has anyone mentioned Pure by the Lightning Seeds?

@twosoups1972 Absolute 80's is a digital radio station playing just 80's music (with adverts if you don't mind them). Otherwise radio 2 have an 80's programme on a Saturday evening.

xsquared · 05/06/2019 17:17

@twosoups1972 I listen to Soubds of the 80s on Radio 2 on Friday nights at 10 but you can get it anytime after that for about a month, I think, online.

Radio 2 also hosts Pick of the Pops on Saturday afternoon, which is a 2 hour programme on hits from 2 years, usually a 70s and 80s one.

Any of BA Robertson's songs - Kool in the Kaftan or Knocked it Off, as well as the one mentioned by AndNone above.

Just heard Martha's Harbour again on a TOTP retrospective tonight, also Crash by the Primitives.

TheInvisibleMrsCrane · 07/06/2019 22:41

So many fantastic songs can I add Fun Boy Three - our lips our sealed.

Martin Kemp did a fantastic New Romantics show on Radio 2 over the bank holiday weekend.

I also love the Friday night “Sounds of the 80s” show - usually listen on catch up whilst in the kitchen over the weekend - it’s guaranteed to make the kids run and hide...
