"Forgotten" 80s songs or hidden gems

Are there any songs from the 80s that you miss not hearing anymore or that never get played on Radio 2 or other nostalgia type music programmes?

I've put together an 80s quiz and one of them is a music round.Given that there will participants born after 1989, I didn't want to make it too ageist. I have however added International Rescue by Fuzzbox, as the obscure one in the list.

FrankiesKnuckle sorry for the spelling mistake

Men without Hats - The Safety Dance.
Loved that song!

AlrightBabby · 04/06/2019 00:37

Remember this beauty?

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 04/06/2019 00:45

LOL I loved that sister sledge song. Me and my friends used to sing it too, except we substituted Frankie for the name of a boy we all fancied.

Love loads of these.

A couple more:

Madness - waiting for the ghost Train. Most of their others are played but not this one.
Sly and Robbie - boops here to go. Probably never played because no one knows what the fuck it's about.
Agree that the style council seem to be whitewashed from existence. Surely people have forgiven Weller for breaking up the jam by now? God knows he's done far worse since then. I think my favourite was promised land.
Never hear the stranglers any more now either. Was duchess 80s? That's my favourite of theirs.

There are still Jam fans begging Paul Weller to reform The Jam now nearly 37 years after they split. Thankfully Bruce Foxton the bass player plays with From The Jam who cover all the old Jam songs & tours doing gigs that are full of 50 something mods & ex mods, plus its surprising how many of the old mods kids love the music & go to the gigs. Paul Weller has re recorded some of the old Jam songs slowed down & backed by a full orchestra & they sound amazing.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 04/06/2019 01:00

Ah, both of those endeavours sound good. They were an important band. But 37 years is a long time to be hurt/angry!

On holiday in Majorca last month one of the bars was playing Shattered Dreams by Johnny Hates Jazz...haven't heard that for years!

I was going to add Belle Stars as no one I know remembers them, but they've already been said.

To add
Thompson Twins - Hold me now
Bow Wow Wow - Wild in the country
All about Eve - Martha's Harbour
Glenn Medeiros - Nothings gonna change my love for you (my main memory of this is hiding in the loos while it was playing at school discos!)

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 04/06/2019 01:09

Wee Glenn had quite the bouffant going on, didn't he?

Actually I've just realised you do hear the stranglers, but only ever bloody Gordon Brown [sic] ie the one no one can dance to. Shame.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 04/06/2019 01:37

Halo James - Could have told you so

FeralBeryl · 04/06/2019 01:46

Oh wow I'm drowning in nostalgia Grin just adding Talk Talk Life's what you make it, also AEIOU (I sometimes cry)

LuubyLuu · 04/06/2019 01:55

YES to the Stranglers and the Style Council.

Also, Thinking if You by Colourfield, bit of a one-hit-wonder, but a beautiful one:

So many good ones here!

I heard this song on the radio recently and knew every word, despite not hearing it for 30 years or so. Can't remember where I left my car keys though. I can't stop listening to it now.

The Jets, Crush On You

Ormally · 04/06/2019 08:59

Songs by the London Boys, e.g. can remember London Nights, Wichita Woman and Chinese Radio pretty well.

Never heard them played since 1988 as far as I know!

CathyorClaire · 04/06/2019 09:40

Going to cheat a bit and add Gary Numan with Are Friends Electric and Cars. 1979 I think but so far removed from 70's Glam and disco that I think they earn an honorary 80's mention.

Nyctophilia · 04/06/2019 13:08
