Would you serve lasagna with baked potatoes?

RedSkyLastNight · 02/06/2019 17:04

Prompted by a conversation with my parents..

I would serve lasagna (the traditional meat version) with a side salad and possibly garlic bread.
My parents like to serve it with a (large) baked potato. I reckon this is far too much stodge and you shouldn't serve lasagna with baked potato, but my parents reckon they have been to many restaurants that served it thus.

How do you like your lasagna?

Last time I had lunch at mil’s she gave us lasagne, peas, carrots, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy
Was quite odd

Fairylea · 03/06/2019 08:41

I think it’s crazy how judgey people get about double carbing or that it’s even a “thing”. People used to live on pie and mash, Cornish pasty and potatoes etc etc. It’s only the last 10 years or so everyone is suddenly demonising carbs.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 03/06/2019 08:49

@Fairylea this is mumsnet remember, where carbs are the devil incarnate. I love carbs, or you know, food, as my friend calls them Grin

God yes.

As many carbs as possible.

HollySniffs · 03/06/2019 08:55

Not judgy here for one. I love them, of Irish descent so pretty sure potatoes run through my veins but physically I can't take double/triple carbs in one sitting. Would be slumped over and sleepy trying to digest and no room for pudding.

And I bloody love pudding.

Sofasurfingsally · 03/06/2019 09:23

Probably too many carbs.

RavenLG · 03/06/2019 09:40

Not a regular occurrence, usually just salad. But when you're in need of carby comfort food double carbs of chips and lasagne are amazing. Even better, TRIPLE carbs, chips, garlic bread and lasagne.

LoafofSellotape · 03/06/2019 09:42

I wouldn't even serve it with garlic bread let alone a potato!

Salad or peas depending on the time of year.

Happynow001 · 03/06/2019 11:18

Too many carbs for me. I'd be asleeeep! 😴 💤

Just salad here.

Fevertree · 03/06/2019 11:48

Lasagne is a favourite in our house. We always serve it with leafy salad and tomatoes and occasionally garlic bread. I am perturbed by those serving it with potato, baked or baby, and also those saying they serve it with cooked green veg like green beans/peas/Brocolli 😕

Soola · 03/06/2019 11:54

Lasagne and a baked potato?

Photograph it and get it on Rate my Playe!

youngestisapsycho · 03/06/2019 11:55

Always with chips... to dip in the meat sauce!
Salad with hot, mushy stuff is all kinds of wrong Grin

BarbaraofSevillle · 03/06/2019 11:57

Agree Fevertree. Broccoli, peas or carrots with lasasgne is just weird.

I wouldn't serve a baked potato either, because it doesn't go, not because of the Fear of Carbs. I would do lasagne, garlic bread and salad. It's nice to have bread to mop up the sauce and it doesn't necessarily make it more carby because I would have less lasagne to make room for the garlic bread.

Zampa · 03/06/2019 11:57

I love lasagne and chips. Discovered it on a post A'Level trip to Magaluf.

I was once served a jacket potato with chips in a pub. That was a step too far.

BarbaraofSevillle · 03/06/2019 11:57

I love salad with hot mushy stuff like lasagne. I wouldn't say no to chips either to be fair.

caringcarer · 03/06/2019 12:01

I would serve myself a generous portion with a large green salad and I serve husband and son the same but slightly larger portions and with a couple of small circles of garlic bread. I might offer a jacket potato if a person did not like lasagne.

notso · 03/06/2019 12:13

Salad or on it's own. The only times I serve chips or garlic bread are when we have unexpected guests and I'm worried there won't be enough.

We went on a uk holiday with another couple and both made a lasagne at home and brought them for dinner the first night.
Theirs had peppers and mushrooms in which made us go WTF
Ours had carrots and celery which made them go WTF

cricketmum84 · 03/06/2019 12:19

I'm another oddball that loves salad with hot mushy stuff! I have a salad with most meals such as curry, chilli, spicy lentils etc. Its just something about the different textures. I am a veggie though and we are known for our strange ways 😂

Teddybear45 · 03/06/2019 12:21

I have served lasagna with potatoes before but it’s usually instead of garlic bread. Would keep the salad.

HollySniffs · 03/06/2019 12:21

I love a jacket potato with a big lush salad under it. In my case lettuce and onion heavy, yum.

tardyheart · 03/06/2019 12:21

My PiL's do that too, Jacket potato and peas with Lasagna, we would always have it with Salad & Garlic Bread.

My MiL also serves Garlic bread with Stir fry & noodles, which I find odd too.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 03/06/2019 12:26

Just lots of salad. I'm not a fan of double carbs.

I only make lasagne about once a year if that - such an enormous amount of faff!

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/06/2019 12:49

I make salad with curry and chilli too, Cricketmum84 I love the freshness to cut through the rich, spicy food.
