Would you serve lasagna with baked potatoes?

RedSkyLastNight · 02/06/2019 17:04

Prompted by a conversation with my parents..

I would serve lasagna (the traditional meat version) with a side salad and possibly garlic bread.
My parents like to serve it with a (large) baked potato. I reckon this is far too much stodge and you shouldn't serve lasagna with baked potato, but my parents reckon they have been to many restaurants that served it thus.

How do you like your lasagna?

It's less about the carbs for me. I guess people just have a smaller portion. I just can't see why I'd have anything as it's so perfect. I'd just have more lasagne if still hungry.

I like it with a nice leafy salad but DH likes chips.

Maybe in the depths of winter when I tend to crave more carby stodge then a small jacket potato would be nice but not sure - hmm

Oh yes with baked potato all the way here when I make it at home, God it's great to get dinner cooked and no complaints from me, I get it in restaurants sometimes too.

Boysey45 · 02/06/2019 18:13

I'd just have the potato, I dislike lasagne because I think they are slimy. I've made loads of different type ones and I just cant bear the slimy pasta.

polarisation · 02/06/2019 18:13

My ILs served lasagne with baked potatoes and salad and possibly garlic bread as well! I think it was just to make it go further with extra guests. I did think it was weird though!

SpaceCadet4000 · 02/06/2019 18:14

I definitely would not eat it with a jacket potato! If I'm cooking, I just do side salad. DH's family do it with garlic bread, which I'll take since it's there and I do love garlic bread. But I'd never choose to serve it that way myself.

bloodywhitecat · 02/06/2019 18:19

No chips/wedges/potatoes, I just serve it with a side salad or some green beans.

feelingsinister · 02/06/2019 18:19

Serving it with a baked potato is a bit odd and it just doesn't go. No problem with double or even triple carbs though. I really fancy a pub lasagne with chips and garlic bread right now. 😊

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/06/2019 18:34

Lasagna or lasagne?

Unless you only have one sheet, I call it lasagne, because that's the plural. Mind you, I ask for a panino and get corrected. Hmm

cricketmum84 · 02/06/2019 18:41

Jacket potato and lasagne?? How strange! Certainly never seen that on a menu anywhere I have been.

Nice salad and garlic bread yes.

TwinklyMummaLuvsHerBubba89 · 02/06/2019 18:45

I wouldn't serve with a jacket potato but would serve with a small portion of chips, because I love the stodgy combination.

Generally I use it as a stand-alone meal, like shepherd's pie or fish pie, and serve it on its own.

TwinklyMummaLuvsHerBubba89 · 02/06/2019 18:47

I wonder if, @RedSkyLastNight, they have seen it as an alternative to it being served with chips in a pub. Pub meals tend to be served with chips or jacket and veg or side salad as the standard options.

FangsTasticBeast · 02/06/2019 18:49

Salad and chips
Salad and garlic bread
New potatoes and veg

Although I’m trying to cut out the carbs so salad or veg

MitziK · 02/06/2019 18:54

Chips and salad.

Can't beat the taste of them dipped into the sauce, and the salad convinces you that it's vaguely healthy.

stucknoue · 02/06/2019 18:57

Salad and bread, years ago chips were common but haven't seen that for years

NorthernSpirit · 02/06/2019 18:58

God no. Carb overload.

AtSea1979 · 02/06/2019 19:00

No I wouldn’t have it with baked potato, the ragu without the lasagne sheets yes but the actual lasagne noooo

Ohyesiam · 02/06/2019 19:02

It comes with just a salad in this house. I love garlic bread but I’d find that a bit much. Maybe I should serve less lasagne.

managedmis · 02/06/2019 19:04

Love that folks are saying too carby with JP but not GB.

Spud vs bread? Same thing

user1486131602 · 02/06/2019 19:05

No I certainly wouldn’t, but people do!
My SIL once served us baked beans with chicken chassuer! 🤢

Thallo · 02/06/2019 19:08

A baked potato seems.....incongruous. Do your parents work for the Potato Promotional Board?

I've only had lasagne and chips in a pub and I've got to say it works very well with a hangover. I love coleslaw with my lasagne. The cold crunch goes really well with the hot yielding pasta.

NaturalBornWoman · 02/06/2019 19:09

Just a salad here. I wouldn't mind a bit of garlic bread but I'm a pig and my husband is horrified by the very idea!

Lozz22 · 02/06/2019 19:13

@Fairylea I like it with chips garlic bread or buttered French stick and salad cream. To those who say it's too carby having lasagna and chips or jacket potato with it. It's no different to having pizza and chips or burger in a burger bun and chips

noenergy · 02/06/2019 19:15

I always have it with roast potatoes and DH likes garlic with his.
