It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

Yes, 20+ here next week, but still not 30s so I'm holding on to it being bearable at night Smile

I love rain so much. I wish I had tomorrow off, it's due to be epic here apparently.

Becca19962014 · 10/06/2019 13:10

20c here at the moment, not a cloud in sight people who dressed according to what it's like in shorts/t-shirt, those dressing according to forecast/weather stations wearing coats as Every weather forcast says it's pouring with rain/cloudy and maximum 15c.

Am dreading next week already feeling ill Sad

The next person who tells me to cheer up because the weather is lovely despite all predictions I'll snap at. I didn't get my cold winter this year so I reserve the right to be grumpy and look mopey and miserable.

And no, at no point this winter was it freezing here except one day in February when we had ice. No sun DOES NOT equal freezing.

Envy - grumpy face!!

ExpletiveDelighted · 10/06/2019 13:14

Thatsnot, sorry, I didn't mean to imply you were. Several people have commented that there hasn't really been any hot summer weather where they are yet, indeed its significantly cooler where I am than it was when the thread started, so the tone of the thread has changed to people enjoying the cool weather rather than hating the hot.

Asta19 · 10/06/2019 14:26

I went to the local shops today. Every cashier I spoke to commented on the rain in a negative way! I know they were just making conversation so I just smiled and nodded along but inside I was thinking “yes and I love it” Grin

TapasForTwo · 10/06/2019 15:28

ExpletiveDelighted you are right in that there have only been pockets of the country that have had some hot weather. We have had some warm days, but nothing that feels like proper summer weather. My garden is really flourishing after the rain, but it also needs a bit of sun.

Thatsnotmyname4291 · 10/06/2019 20:15

Expletive no probs, I read my message back and then yours and couldn’t figure out if it was a reply or not 😂 .

So jealous of the cool weather you’re mainly enjoying. Thirty fricking five here today.

GummyGoddess · 10/06/2019 21:34

Very rainy here today, we're on flood alert. DC1 loves it, he was jumping in puddles while waiting to be put in the car this morning and was so wet he had to have a change of clothes at nursery!

It's quite relaxing listening to the rain on the conservatory roof and snuggling up in a fluffy dressing gown with the fire on. Very content with the weather today.

TapasForTwo · 10/06/2019 21:41

Please don't shoot me down in flames for what you might think is a stupid question Gummy, but if you have the fire on to increase the ambient temperature how is that different to the weather being warm enough to be the same temperature?

LoafofSellotape · 10/06/2019 21:46

but if you have the fire on to increase the ambient temperature how is that different to the weather being warm enough to be the same temperature? It's different.

ExpletiveDelighted · 10/06/2019 21:50

It is different, you are in control of the temperature with a fire or heating, you aren't with hot weather. We have our thermostat at 18-19°C all winter but the house gets considerably hotter than that in the summer, even tonight when its only 9°C outside the thermostat inside is reading 20 and its quite warm.

TapasForTwo · 10/06/2019 22:27

Our thermostat is set at the same, and our heating is still coming on because it is so cold outside.

ExpletiveDelighted · 10/06/2019 22:32

Ours hasn't kicked in at all in the last week.

lorit · 11/06/2019 07:08

We haven't had the heating on since March-ish. It's been around 19-23 degrees in our flat anyway, even with all the windows open sometimes. (New build!)

TapasForTwo · 11/06/2019 07:35

It's amazing how much difference a couple of hundred miles can make. Today's forecast is 10 degrees and torrential rain Sad

Becca19962014 · 11/06/2019 10:31

Raining today Grin

I was woken up by blazing sunshine at 4:30 - not impressed at all! Better now though!!

RosaWaiting · 11/06/2019 10:35

Becca as you probably know, I am obsessed with the weather forecast Grin

for my area, they were initially forecasting hot weather for next week but now are backing off. hopefully it was wrong!

Becca19962014 · 11/06/2019 11:11

Ooooooo that'd be great if it's the same for here!!!!!!

Becca19962014 · 11/06/2019 11:14

Mines not been updated....

ExpletiveDelighted · 11/06/2019 11:40

Mine's up to 24°C next week but with clouds and breeze, hopefully that's as high as it'll go, I'd prefer a max of about 22.

LoafofSellotape · 11/06/2019 12:16

So chilly here today I'm wearing trousers and a coat and trainers and I usually wear sandals from April and they have to be prised odd my feet late September/ mid October ! 9 degrees! Fabulous Wink

GummyGoddess · 11/06/2019 13:43

@TapasForTwo It's different because I'm not cranking the ambient temperature up to summer levels, I'm wrapping myself up in layers, wearing comfortable (non-skimpy, non linen) clothes and the thermostat never goes above 20 max.

I think perhaps it's also that I know that if I were to get too hot, I could instantly fix it by shedding blankets or turning the fire off. If I'm hot because the weather is hot I have no escape. Can't go for a cool shower or stand around in the frozen foods aisle with two toddlers to chase after. Plus I have to wear summer clothes which I hate.

SecretWitch · 11/06/2019 16:55

Lovely, drizzly cool weather here. I would take this all summer, if I could.

TapasForTwo · 11/06/2019 17:21

Lincolnshire has had 7 weeks worth of rain in the last 24 hours. I hope it doesn't affect the crops too much.

SapphireSeptember · 11/06/2019 23:38

I love the rain. It didn't rain as much as it normally does in the winter (East Anglia is supposedly drier than Jerusalem, yeah right.) The weather seems to be making up for it now though! It's pretty chilly too, which I am not moaning about because where I work isn't hotter than the surface of the sun. (Makes a change for this time of the year.) We still have over two and a half months before the end of summer though, so I'm hoping it doesn't do what it did last year and get really hot at the end of June. March was quite warm and very dry and I started to worry about the yellow grass and cracks in the ground.

ExpletiveDelighted · 12/06/2019 07:38

We've had several spells of virtually no rain for several weeks already this year, the ground at my allotment has dried out massively at times, so the rain this week is very welcome to replenish the soil and refill the water butts.
