It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

Whereas I can't bear the bright light of summer Tapas. I hate the squinting, I hate having to remember sunglasses. I hate how light it is for so long at night.

Today's cloud cover is comforting for me.

TapasForTwo · 07/06/2019 20:13

I have very photosensitive eyes, so forgetting sunglasses would be a nightmare for me. I have magnetic clip ons for my glasses that live in my handbag. So I get what you mean about bright light. It is low light that makes me feel low.

TapasForTwo
I love your garden!

GummyGoddess · 07/06/2019 22:27

I quite like the darkness, but I don't like feeling squashed into the ground just before a storm. It felt like that this morning and was a huge relief when the storm came and I felt like I could stretch again.

Arabuella · 07/06/2019 22:31

it's very humid in London, so it feels hot...

PLEASE send the heat north of the Border. Thank you

Delatron · 07/06/2019 22:56

Forecast for London for the next week. Not much to moan about. Jesus.

It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.
LoafofSellotape · 07/06/2019 23:42

🙄

TapasForTwo · 07/06/2019 23:50

Thank you Earthy. Similar weather for South Yorkshire next week Delatron but about 3 degrees cooler Sad

Delatron · 07/06/2019 23:54

So below the seasonal average tapas
This is why I moved down south from Yorkshire! I couldn’t cope with the cold.

Delatron · 07/06/2019 23:55

Yes just looked where my parents live. It’s going to be 13 degrees in Yorkshire next week. In June.

Holibobsing · 08/06/2019 00:16

Omg I've found my safe place and kindered spirits.

I get a happy glow when they say summer may be a washout ! I punch the air in secret when weather reporters state it's unusually cool for this time of year - music to my ears. But I have to keep it to myself and agree it's lovely 🤮 because I don't want to rain on their parade .

7th of June, central heating on for two hours. Contentedness that is !

DappledThings · 08/06/2019 07:07

Not much to moan about Well then Delatron those of us who are quite happy with that forecast can enjoy it then. And when it does get hotter we can moan more then. Not sure why you continue to come here to tell us we're wrong.

ExpletiveDelighted · 08/06/2019 07:41

I'm exactly the same Holibobsing, a happy sigh of relief at a forecast for cool weather in summer. Its so much nicer than a heatwave.

CaptainHammer · 08/06/2019 07:42

I thought you were leaving the thread @delatron. Seriously, the whole point of people posting here is so they can moan about the hot weather without being made to feel like an idiot. We get that enough in real life.
So the weather isn’t super hot at the moment, and? It will be and we’ve had days when it has been. That’s the whole reason this thread is already here.

Though I’m not sure why I’m replying as you clearly aren’t bothered. Maybe a private Facebook group where I can kick off summer lovers would be better Grin

LoafofSellotape · 08/06/2019 07:45

It's like a thread about liking baking cakes and someone keeps posting they hate cakes...why? Confused

TapasForTwo · 08/06/2019 08:35

I feel sorry for people who have given up their valuable time to put on outdoor events to have them cancelled due to torrential rain. We have a couple of things going on near me this weekend that look like they are going to be a total washout. Currently torrential rain, not just drizzle Sad

ExpletiveDelighted · 08/06/2019 08:57

Yes, I feel bad when that happens. My preference is for overnight rain, then temperatures in the high teens with a mix of sunshine and clouds during the day. We are helping with an event today, so far it has stayed dry.

Dieu · 08/06/2019 09:12

Every summer, I berate myself for not having lost weight Blush I suspect I'd love summer if slim, and able to wear wee floaty dresses and shorts.

Dieu · 08/06/2019 09:14

Oh, and move to Scotland, summer haters! Still cold and rainy here ...

LucheroTena · 08/06/2019 09:31

I feel so much more energetic and better since the rain came in. My constant headache needing daily pain relief and blocked nose have disappeared. Live London so suspect it’s pollution and hay fever. Never had any of these symptoms until the last few years.

lorit · 08/06/2019 09:31

Hah, I'm ridiculously skinny (I find it hard to eat) and hate it, so that's no guarantee unfortunately!

It is rubbish for event organisers, and I'm sympathetic to anyone trying to arrange an outdoor thing in Britain at any point. It can be raining or 30+, there's no way to really predict year to year.

Is it just me, or was it different in the older days? When we were little it felt like June, July and August were the guaranteed hottest months but these days it feels like it's swinging towards August, September and October.

LoafofSellotape · 08/06/2019 09:33

I still hated the summer even when I was a skinny minny!

ExpletiveDelighted · 08/06/2019 09:39

It seems more like May/June/July tend to be the hot months to me now, there have been a few years when hot weather has ended about a week into the English school holidays.

TapasForTwo · 08/06/2019 09:45

Dieu I suppose that statistically it is easier to bear the heat when you have less padding. I have no boobs Sad so I never get the underboob sweat that well endowed women complain about. But there are people for whom excessive heat is an issue regardless of size.

Expletive overnight rain and dry days would be perfect. My preference is for warmer temperatures during the day, but I agree that cooler nights make it mush easier for sleeping. We haven't even cracked out the summer duvet out yet as the night temperatures here are in single figures. It's currently 12 degrees.

FundamentallyTired · 08/06/2019 09:58

I live in Yorkshire and it hasn't been very cold this winter. I only wore my woolly hat a few times!

Jeans, t-shirt and cardigan weather is perfect for me. Not much warmer than 18-20°C. I'm a bit chubby so summer clothing is a nightmare. And I know people say there are clothes fo everyone, but not when you consider chub rub, and budget.
