Pretty much every boy in my class was Robert/Stephen/Andrew/David/Paul/Alan/Michael. My male cousins too.
My family was slightly more adventurous with girls' names, as were my neighbours, but there was still a hefty complement of Catherines, Sarahs, Rachels and Lindas at my primary school. When I got to secondary, the place was swarming with Sues.

DeadButDelicious · 24/05/2019 13:11

Emma, Louise (extremely popular as a middle name as well), Sarah, Rebecca.

David, Darren, Daniel, Stephen, Mark.

Northwest late 80's-90's.

Bog standard 70s/80s names: Sarah, Emma, Claire, Katherine, Rachel, but rarely more than 2 of each per class.

There seems to be such a small pool of names being used at the moment. In my daughter's school class (16 girls) they have 2 x Amelie, an Amelia, 2 x Emily and a Millie. And in one of her dance classes there are 4 x Isabella and an Isabelle (only 12 kids in the class!)

Girls’ school in the seventies. There were 12 Judiths in our year, out of a total of about 120 girls.
What was going on? I’ve rarely met a Judith since.

In my year, out of approx 70 girls, there were 5 Sharons and 3 Joannes.

Among the boys, there were at least 4 Pauls and 3 Davids.

We were born at the end of the 1960s.
