True fact about yourself that no one believes

When I was at university (5 yr course with a year in industry, so 4 yrs of teaching) I never missed a single lecture, seminar, lab or tutorial. If it was on the timetable I was there. We had large contact hours (engineering degree, so about 25 hrs per week) so was quite a lot to fit in.

I’ve told this to a few people over the years when the topic comes up in conversation. No one has ever believed me, and it’s not something I can prove or disprove either way!

Anything you have done in the past that no one believes and you have no way of proving?

@Katinski I'm not sure that anyone has ever actually successfully navigated their way out of a minefield using a blade of grass... The correct thing to do is to call in a bomb disposal team. But if that isn't an option or it is too dangerous to sit tight and wait for help, you are supposed to look for visible signs of mines eg tripwires then search for buried mines triggered by pressure using the stem of a piece of grass. If you gently push the stem into the ground at 45 degrees you should be able to feel if it comes up against the side of the mine without exerting enough pressure to set off the mine. Then you can slowly inch your way along to safety. As I said, I'm not entirely sure anyone has ever tested this out and lived to tell the tale.

I know some clever person is going to ask why you can't just retrace your steps back the way you came. There are some mines that are set up to be triggered the second time they are trodden on. Or maybe you just didn't step on it the first time.

ineed, I hope you’re not marred for life ...

DerelictWreck · 16/05/2019 13:28

I've never stolen anything.

Not a glass from a pub, a road sign or bollard, a pick and mix sweet or anything!

jinju · 16/05/2019 13:29

@VodselForDinner please do tell!

Stravapalava · 16/05/2019 14:22

Vods is it like you're both called Sarah Jane Smith and your family call one of you Sarah and one of you Jane? Is it a family name type thing? I'm intrigued!

donutrehomer · 16/05/2019 15:18

Im an open book now, but at the age of 16 I didn't sleep with a boy that everyone thinks I did. No one has ever believed me, I had an entire school year calling me vile names. It was a small town and it even carried on after I left school. I ended up moving away, I couldn't deal with it.

My parents didn't even believe me when they heard about it so , I lost all new found teenage freedom and was basically I house arrest until I turned 18.

Wasn't allowed to go on school ski trip that I had paid for myself.

I didn't actually lose my virginity for about another four years.

I'm 50 this year and it still brings me to tears.

Surely there are others that dislike Pavlova though, it's the one thing that people say 'but how could you not love it, LOOK at it?' Amazing.

areyoubeingserviced · 16/05/2019 15:25

Vodsel- I went to primary school with three sisters. The oldest and the youngest had the same name( Mary).
It was weird

footchewer · 16/05/2019 15:26

I skived PE so much at school that the PE teachers assumed I had left. They crossed my name off the register. I didn't go to a PE lesson after about year 9 (better things to do).

Those were the days before safeguarding was a thing!

Sprink · 16/05/2019 15:57

I was a virgin until I was 31 years old.

I was born in the grounds of a castle and grew up on what had been a country estate but am from very working class stock and the actual accommodation we lived in was faaaar from palatial.

I trained professionally as a dancer. Wouldn’t know it to look at me now but I did.

DetectiveSantiago · 16/05/2019 16:22

I took a lot of drugs in my 20s.

I didn't tell my parents (or any of my family) about their four grandchildren until the eldest was eight.

I lost my virginity to an evangelical Christian who felt so guilty about not waiting for marriage that he attempted to commit suicide and I had to talk him out of it. Sad

I am really good at Mario kart. (I'm 75 and people never believe me).

That when me and my friend were 17 we gave a lift to a harmless looking woman in her 50’s. She turned out to be a raging alcoholic and prostitute and locked us in her house. We had to plot our escape quick when her husband came in drunk and she was begging him not to hurt us .

Holy fuck! Please tell us more!

TalbotAMan · 16/05/2019 19:58
