We haven’t for ages but did tonight. Is it weird or just something couples do? We used to massively before kids btw so nothing out of the usual.

Yes we do.

Dp is much stronger so it isn't a fair fight. But he's gentlemanly and adjusts his behaviour and let's me win until the very last second before he takes me down, gently.

isabellerossignol · 12/05/2019 23:06

No, I'd hate it. We've been together since we were teenagers and when we were newly together he used to do this mock punch thing where he was joking about but would stop a few inches short of making contact. I told him I didn't like it, it was frightening, and he apologised profusely and was embarrassed because he had just been mucking about. And he never ever did it again, or anything remotely similar. I couldn't cope with play fighting at all.

BrightSpells · 12/05/2019 23:07

The only power I have is that he's ticklish and I'm not. Mwhahaha.

He's also really easy to scare. I spend a lot of time creeping around the house, ready to pounce.

MarthasGinYard · 12/05/2019 23:09

Sounds Grim Op

Hope your dc don't witness this

LoafofSellotape · 12/05/2019 23:12

Hmmmm 🙄

Drogosnextwife · 12/05/2019 23:12

Yup we do it all the time, I usually get involved when he's play fighting with the kids. I get a bit psycho mum. DP never actually hits anyone though just pins us down, he is huge and quite freakishly strong though.
My brother and I used to play fight with our df aswell but my mum never joined in, I always thought she was really boring.

Drogosnextwife · 12/05/2019 23:14

Never had bruises though, that's a bit much.

Drogosnextwife · 12/05/2019 23:16

And if he ever has hurt me by accident he gets really embarrassed. Like last time I actually punched myself in the face because he managed to wriggle free and my arm sprang back and whacked me. He saw that as his fault though and was very apologetic, which was daft because it wasn't his fault.

Theghosttrain · 12/05/2019 23:17

Maybe it wouldn't be normal if I didn't consider him my best friend though or hadn't known him from such a young age?

Eh? I wouldn't play fight with any friends, let alone a best friend. DH and I laugh a lot, but our fun doesn't include any sort of fighting, I'd find that very strange.

Marvinmarvinson · 12/05/2019 23:30

Ah. You again. You've posted a lot about your husband's behaviour. His drug taking and his lack of interest in parenting. This doesn't make him look very good either tbh. I hope one day you manage to get the courage to leave.

MarthasGinYard · 12/05/2019 23:33

Ah yes, I remember now

Monkeyssplit · 12/05/2019 23:38

Never even occurred to me

TheVanguardSix · 12/05/2019 23:38

‘Play fighting’ is nothing more than a veil for bullying behaviour.
Use your brains for entertainment, not your fists.

Passtherioja · 12/05/2019 23:38

I hope you're both very happy together...because the chances of anyone else putting up with this behaviour is pretty slim!

redhotchill · 12/05/2019 23:39

No

DotForShort · 12/05/2019 23:40

No, never. I don’t know what a “dead arm” is, but if it involves bruising, count me out. It sounds as though you actually hurt each other and he enjoys having physical power over you. That is quite worrying.

DotForShort · 12/05/2019 23:43

Oh, it’s you. Is he high during these fights? Hmm

Topseyt · 12/05/2019 23:46

Nope. Never done this. I think it is fucking stupid and very abusive.

LoafofSellotape · 12/05/2019 23:46

I remember you.

Don't fight in front of your kids.

redhotchill · 12/05/2019 23:49

Oh ffs

We're not the fuckwits who can't distinguish between entirely innocent play fighting and an abusive situation.

OP as I said previously this categorically isn't playfighting. This is abuse, which you are complicit in visiting upon yourself for God only knows what reason.

Seek help.
Leave.
Your poor, poor children.

@CocoDeMoll, I'm like you and like that with one of my male friends OP I'm small and feisty and won't back down from a challenge and he's large and irritating and likes to push my buttons till we're literally rolling around on top of each other wrestling. I'm 4ft10 and he's 6ft4 and we're forever wrestling, tickling and climbing on each other or blowing in each others faces/ears, licking or pretending to bite the other. We're equal in strength (I used to compete in weightlifting till I damaged my had and I still lift and play women's rugby and he plays semi-professional hockey) but he's always going to win because he's so much bigger than me.

Last time I saw him we we spent the afternoon with me sitting on him (I moved to get something from another room and he immediately stretched out on the sofa and refused to move) and throwing marshmallows at his face, we got bored of the movie we were watching and started prodding each other because we're both ticklish (me more so than him), that ended with him pinning me on top of him while I laughed and licked the hand that was restraining mine so I could sit up. Later we ended up standing on the couch hitting each other with cushions and laughing, in the midst of that a friend distracted us and he lunged to pick me up (I'd bet he couldn't) and then he put me down I answered my friend and he dove to pull my legs out from under me knowing I'd grab him either by his collar or his neck and pull him down with me. That 'fight' ended with him pinning me against the sofa while we laughed.

It's something we both enjoy and wouldn't do with anyone else because our other friends aren't into play fighting, it's something I've always done with my sisters and nieces and nephews. It's fun and as long as no one is getting upset or hurt who cares. It's a good way of getting rid of tension and stress and is kind of our way of 'hugging' each other without hugging because neither of us are into that.

My friend and I could hurt the other, him more so than me because he's just so much bigger than me but he's like a gentle giant. He's always careful about making sure he doesn't hurt me and we have bruised the other before but neither of us have noticed until after the fact and it's not an issue because we both bruise easily anyway. The biggest danger I'm in is laughing so much I need my inhaler but that happens any time I laugh.

You do you OP and don't worry about what anyone else is doing Smile

ImposterSyndrome101 · 13/05/2019 02:34

Ah Ok OP I didn't see the updates neither of you should be giving each other bruises or dead arms or actually hurting each other. When that happens it stops being playing and becomes something else, and you shouldn't be fighting like that in front of kids.

My friend and I are students and are like @Drogosnextwife and her DH. He picks me up and moves me or pins me down or against him but he's never hurt me and is always very gentle and we don't lift our hands to do more than tickle the others sides, neck or back and once when I banged my dodgy hand on the wall he massaged it until it clicked because he felt bad that I'd been hurt. I was more annoyed we'd had the interruption.
