Great pics of him, Meghan looks radiant as usual.

It was a very odd choice of dress. I wonder if the view of her heaving bosom from that wrap dress will finally do Prince Phillip in.

Springwalk · 08/05/2019 14:23

Shell shocked is not a negatove description. Kay Burley has just used it ffs!
It is pretty full on when your first baby arrives, and yes shocked is definitely the right word.
Your body has never experienced childbirth before, the relief, the hormones and the exhaustion is an incredible cocktail. First time around for sure. I adored my baby but couldn’t believe she was actually here in the world for weeks, the shock could be seen very clearly, and nerves. What a tender moment it was.

bengalcat · 08/05/2019 14:24

She looked absolutely fabulous as always - beautiful little baby as are all babes x

User8888888 · 08/05/2019 14:27

I think they all looked lovely. I did chuckle at the ‘he’s very calm’ and has a lovely temperament comments though. Not sure how long that will last for them.

I always thought Kate’s photocall was a nightmare but I think she actually had the better deal. She was leaving the building anyway and then didn’t have to say too much. Once she was home, she wasn’t seen again for quite a while so got the press stuff out of the way. Meghan had the privacy of the birth but then has to do the more formal presentation a few days later and be more ‘on’ for the press. Leaving the house with baby no.1 is hard at the best of times but you’d be sat there trying to work out when to feed, how to pick a time when the baby wasn’t crying, vomming , what to say to the press etc.

LillianGish · 08/05/2019 14:31

Why is everyone on MN so obsessed with going home and changing into pyjamas? Presumably these are the same people who wear pyjamas on Christmas Day and whose idea of utter luxury and indulgence is sitting around in their pyjamas (or PJs) and drinking hot chocolate. I absolutely did not sit round in my pyjamas after my dcs were born - in fact I found the best way to to ward off the baby blues was to spruce up, get my lipstick on and be ready to face the world (in fact it was my own mum's main piece of advice - roughly if you don't look like shit you won't feel like shit). Meghan and Harry both look so happy and proud and genuinely happy to be on their way to introduce their baby to his great granny.

IABUQueen · 08/05/2019 14:33

Some pp sound like spiteful in laws who find ways to scrutinise poor Meghan and when there is nothing to scrutinise they start creating a false idea of her which gets her scrutinised.

they Say that they pay for the royal family and so are allowed to have opinions about them, yet all I see is these opinions directed at women and dissecting women’s decisions and the way they behave and dress..

Dear Crowd, you spend all of Harry’s lifetime paying from your taxes to raise him, therefore, focus your energy on him.

No one is interested to hear what you think is happening to this woman’s biology. It’s frankly none of your business and your empathy is misplaced. If she wanted to make a feminist statement it’s a choice she would make and clarify and if she doesn’t want to use her own life’s big moments to satisfy your desires that’s also her choice. That’s not why she stood there giving a speech and giving us smiles and introducing her baby. Have some respect.

"What did that make you wonder?"

Actually, it made me wonder as to precisely how much control Meghan/her mother are going to have over this baby. I truly hope I'm wrong - but it's a possessive motion. I suspect that Meghan and Doria may not be in charge in that nursery after all, but that Harry will be.

Parenthood is, or at least ought to be, about equality. Harry didn't really have that, growing up, so he may be reacting to that now that he's the parent. But that plucking motion...? Doesn't necessarily bode as well as the press office might like us to believe.

Whoever is the dominant parent, that baby is beautiful and very loved - that's clear in the way his parents reacted to him in front of the assembled press. And I, for one, hope that he has a long and healthy life (I'd like to say "happy", too, but I don't think any of the royals are truly happy, given that they live their lives in a fishbowl).

Mominatrix · 08/05/2019 14:34

Cute baby, happy parents. I don't read anything more into the photos that that. I am confused as I thought the Sussex's did not want all the press rigamarole that the Cambridges had, but hey ho - duty calls and all.

The only thing I found interesting is the central role that CBS and Gayle King got - guess the US press is more important.

IABUQueen · 08/05/2019 14:37

I think Meghan looked fabulous. So relatable.

No I didn’t notice a puffy face, uncomfortable nerves, or exhausted looks. I didn’t see , if it’s something to be even seen, “them wanting it to be over with soon”. Ascribing some sort of victimhood and uninvited pitty is pretty condescending.

I just saw proud happy parents. And a cute baby. And a woman who just did an amazing job giving birth to those 7 ounces, and is relieved she made it.

Feelbad1 · 08/05/2019 14:39

It was already explained that the choice of venue was so not to distract and hassle the hospital and staff. Hundreds of press people, hinder the dr's and nursers from doing their job properly. Here the security measures are already in place.

Springwalk · 08/05/2019 14:40

I don't disagree with the above comment, it looked a little like that because Harry was holding the baby, and Megan was just standing by looking uncomfortable. I think I would have been happier to see Megan holding the baby. Maybe she was worried about carrying the baby in her heels.

I wish them all the best, and I hope they can now relax and enjoy their beautiful baby.

I think you are overthinking it!

I chucked at that too Grin, reminds me when I said that. Because baby was still too exhausted to show me his real personality lol. Come 3 weeks in and colic decided to teach me life long lessons about judging too quickly haha.

NoSauce · 08/05/2019 14:46

Right, because what you or anyone else would like matters?! Why do you have to read anything into Harry holding his baby? If Meghan had wanted to hold him I would bet my house she would have.

Andylion · 08/05/2019 14:46

The only thing I found interesting is the central role that CBS and Gayle King got - guess the US press is more important.

MM is American so I guess it makes sense that she wants an American media presence, but the fact she chose Oprah's best friend does suggest she wants maximum coverage. I don't think MM has any particular relationship with CBS itself.

Having got my criticism out of the way, I think she looked great. I don't think she was brave to wear white and heels as they were clearly her choice. But maybe she feels most comfortable and confident in heels? Maybe she picked that dress ages ago thinking the weather would be fine?

nutellanom · 08/05/2019 14:46

Alternative questions the reporter could have asked? How about "How are you feeling?" "How are you doing?" "Are you managing to get some rest?"

Feelbad1 · 08/05/2019 14:46

5 minutes of videos to us, at the hospital stairs. But at the hospital, there would have been a royal entourage, security, make up, stylists, PAs etc. Then there is the press. Spending hours, maybe days at the hospital, filling up the canteen, being in the way of patients etc.

With all the professional staff they have, I doubt the corridor was 'draughty', as someone said up thread.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 08/05/2019 14:47

What a weird press conference in chilly looking clothes where they both had to wobble down a long corridor to meet the press in an even more exposed fashion. Bizarre. The whole thing has been very poorly handled logistically and from a PR perspective

Andylion · 08/05/2019 14:47

People want to see Harry holding the baby because they have more invested in him. That would be true regardless of who he had chosen to marry.

FizzyGreenWater · 08/05/2019 14:50

Yes lol at the 'Is he a good baby?' question!

'Well, things seem to be ok at the moment but we're definitely beginning to see signs of a deep-rooted evil, a demanding personality who, we fear, will crush his opponents like bugs'

Feelbad1 · 08/05/2019 14:53

To top it off, we all remember how that nurse killed herself because she was tricked into revealing information about Kate's baby. Maybe they know the press will come down hard on MM if it happened again. Best to stay away from hospital reveals.

Springwalk · 08/05/2019 14:56

nosauce I thought the thread was annoying you, why are you back then?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/05/2019 14:57

Yes lol at the 'Is he a good baby?' question!

"Well, he makes an absolutely rubbish elderly man just at the moment, if that's what you mean?!"

feelingverylazytoday · 08/05/2019 14:58

Lovely baby, Meghan looks great. Agree with LillianGish not everyone wants to sit around in pyjamas just because they've just had a baby. The days of being forced to stay in bed for days on end whether you wanted to or not are long over, thank goodness.
