Neighbour planted 3 new bushes/trees in my garden!

calistaraines · 02/05/2019 17:57

Came home to find 3 newly planted trees in what is quite clearly my garden as it is my side of the fence!
Am I in my right to pull them out? I don't really want them where they are. Beside the fact that they could've at least asked for permission!!!

This is wild. I'm here for the follow up.

PeakedTooEarly · 03/05/2019 09:54

Drop a line saying, ' I noticed on the CCTV that (gardeners name) has planted these plants on my side. This has to be a mistake surely?'

That way they think you have CCTV and also it puts the ball back into their court. If nothing happens, pull them up a few days later.

TheBigFatMermaid · 03/05/2019 09:56

I think the biggest problem, apart from your CF neighbours, is that you share a gardener. It blurs the boundaries somewhat. Sack him, get another. Then he will not dare to come in to your garden again!

I think sacking the gardener is harsh if they are generally very good. Reliable and skilled people aren’t always easy to find. The work should be put right in their time if it takes more than about 15 mins. So would means the gardener works longer on your property today and less on theirs next week.

theemmadilemma · 03/05/2019 09:59

I have a pyracantha in my front garden. It is nice for the birds, but it's a MASSIVE pain.

It's incredibly fast growing and needs continuous work in horrible thorns. It can easily get 2 meters wide and if not kept down can grown high enough I can start to see if through the upper front windows and along the porch roof. 3 of those there will be a nightmare.

LannieDuck · 03/05/2019 10:00

Did the gardener tell you about the large root, or did your neighbours?

I'm wondering if the neighbours told the gardener they wanted to cover the view through the trellis, and the gardener didn't want to battle with the roots, so planted on your side instead thinking it was an easy solution.

Ask the gardener whether (s)he was instructed to plant on your side, or decided to do so themselves?

Cheeky fuckery at its finest

Gruzinkerbell1 · 03/05/2019 10:11

Why are you so chilled OP? I’d be going mental! Cheeky Fuckery at its finest!

HarryDaylight · 03/05/2019 10:12

As previous posters have said, Pyrocatha has horrible spikey thorns which makes it a difficult shrub to look after in a border. There are so many easier shrubs to plant.

And your neighbours have stuck THREE of them there!

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 03/05/2019 10:14

That's really bizarre. And worrying.

I would photograph the trees in situ, making a point of illustrating that they'd just been planted. I'd also start a detailed diary of what your neighbours do, because it looks likely that things might escalate. I am still shocked by the extent bad neighbours will go to.

GrumbleBumble · 03/05/2019 10:15

Rush/bamboo screening attached to their side of the trellis. A climbing plant in a pot on their side of the fence. Whatever it is with the huge roots trained over the trellis. Remove the pyrocanthus and bin/sell/giveaway or plant elsewhere (don't give them back to the neighbours,). If they ask for them when they notice they are gone say you had no idea where they had come from because you didn't think anyone would be stupid enough to plant plants on someone else's land.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 03/05/2019 10:17

Whatever you do, do not leave them. If they can plant them, what else do you think they can do in your garden?

Point out to the gardener you could claim he was trespassing on your land.

wigglypiggly · 03/05/2019 10:24

It's a strange choice of shrub, are they trying to be clever. Has the gardener dug them up yet, maybe say about the CCTV like someone else said.

liquidfootball · 03/05/2019 10:24

Get revenge.
Ask the gardener to tell them that you will be keeping bees.
Adopt several cats and encourage them to crap in their garden.
Buy a massive trampoline, position it at the trellis and bounce on it while they are sat in their garden.

MrsBertBibby · 03/05/2019 10:30

Pyracantha is vicious. Look what it did to my finger!

Neighbour planted 3 new bushes/trees in my garden!
MrsBertBibby · 03/05/2019 10:33

The culprit

Neighbour planted 3 new bushes/trees in my garden!
wigglypiggly · 03/05/2019 10:39

Wow that's massive. Who does that window belong to.

CaptainJaneway62 · 03/05/2019 10:50

Not wanting to be confrontational with neighbours...I get that OP, but these CF neighbours are being absolute idiots.
I would attach a willow screen (or some other type) to the trellis so the CF's can't see into your garden.

Rip out the pyracantha.
And also have words with the gardener...ask him why he thought it was ok to be told by your neighbour to plant stuff in your garden.
Don't be afraid to tell these neighbours to cut with the crap behaviour!

florentina1 · 03/05/2019 10:52

I would not have believed this unless something vaguely similar happened to me. My elderly neighbour had a key to out house for emergencies. When we were on holiday she bought us a new solar lighting system. Huge great plastic domes which she put in my garden pots with wires trailing everywhere. She said she liked looking at my garden and this would help her to see it at night,

NoParticularPattern · 03/05/2019 11:00

That’s ridiculous. I’d be straight round there to ask them WTF they thought they were doing and then the next phone call I make would be to the gardener to tell them not to bother coming in future. Why on Earth you’d willingly have someone in your garden (or anywhere actually) who has clearly demonstrated that they are incredibly unprofessional is beyond me. Get a new gardener and tell them to plant plants against the bloody trellis on their side if they’re so offended by being able to see through it.

CitadelsofScience · 03/05/2019 11:14

Florentina that is serious cheeky fuckery of the highest order Shock

wigglypiggly · 03/05/2019 11:15

That is not child friendly. Bees and birds love.it, ask gardener to dig them up and return to neighnour.what a waste of money.

Mitzimaybe · 03/05/2019 11:31

OP you can't just let this go, otherwise they will do more and more things. Pyracantha are thugs. Unless you really want them, I wouldn't keep them. I'm pretty certain that you don't have to give them back so get them dug up and sold.

Also ask the gardener to contact his insurance company, as you need compensating for the trespass and criminal damage. Threaten to report to police. Go ahead and do it if no acceptable offer of compensation is forthcoming.

Bookworm4 · 03/05/2019 11:44

@florentina
That is hilarious, did you keep it?

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 03/05/2019 11:46

I'd pull them up and replant them elsewhere, (even temporarily if I didn't want to keep them), bottom of the garden perhaps but definitely somewhere where the neighbours can see them 😄

I wouldn't say a word to them about it, I would quite enjoy watching them wondering what was going on and waiting for them to comment 😂
