Anyone up for a game of Mornington Crescent?

I'm starting with Bank.

OP posts:
elephantoverthehill · 02/05/2019 19:25

I've been lurking and following the nuances of play and I'm going to Barbican.

Cailleach · 02/05/2019 19:42

I just realised Royal Oak was a valid move from here.

And how often does THAT happen in this game, eh?!

DameMargaretofChalfont · 02/05/2019 19:44

Sorry elephantoverthehill - under rule 19 (subsection B) I think you'll find that names linked with culture ARE NOT permitted on the 2nd day of the month IF that month has an odd number of letters in.

Therefore I suggest we revoke Barbican and substitute with Spittlefields.

elephantoverthehill · 02/05/2019 19:49

Dame I beg to differ I think that rule only applies if there is an 'R' in the month. However Spittlefields can stand but that messes up the Royal Oak move.

Jocasta2018 · 02/05/2019 20:02

It can only be Bethnal Green.

BillyBusStop · 02/05/2019 20:16

Will I be disqualified at this point if I offer Heathrow Terminal 4?Hmm

DameMargaretofChalfont · 02/05/2019 20:27

I believe Terminal 4 is acceptable as the current moon is waning (rule25A) - excellent play Billy

And elephant - I have re-read rule 19 subsection B and you're perfectly correct. Appendix C/9 does state an addendum regarding the letter R within the months lunar phase!!!

I am clearly playing with professionals!

ForalltheSaints · 02/05/2019 21:12

So we are going around the loop, hopefully in the correct direction, avoiding the duty free shop or the strange driverless car things to the car parks, and we land up at Hatton Cross.

Cismyfatarse1 · 02/05/2019 21:27

I have rarely played with opponents of such devious wit. I therefore have to invoke Sneddington (not the first game with the cheese crumbs, but the one with the disputed night time manoeuvring).

And go with Brixton.

Sorry.

ForalltheSaints · 02/05/2019 21:35

I now have to invoke the rail replacement rule to get out of this last move, and via Stockwell end up at Tooting Broadway. The last time I ended up there the Colonel was trying to mount a challenge to the Tooting Popular Front, until he realised it was fictitious. It could have been messy.

UnicornRainbowsRain · 02/05/2019 21:54

I was just thinking it was ages since a game of Mornington Crescent popped up.

A 1984 version b.2010000 if I'm not mistaken.

Green Park

Mysterian · 02/05/2019 21:54

I'm just watching this game. Still recovering from the groin strain I got last time I played.

BuckingFrolics · 02/05/2019 21:58

You're all mad to be playing on the second day of the month, Pzatch was unequivocal that Mornington Crescent is best avoided then, particularly with a Y in the month.

But If you were to play, you should of course play a very cautious Bond Street.

elephantoverthehill · 02/05/2019 22:23

As we approaching a Bank holiday and would all like to be out of town, Stanmore is my next move and viva the overground.

elephantoverthehill · 02/05/2019 22:24

*As we approach

wobblyflump · 02/05/2019 22:41

Mindful of the lunar phase we are in, I believe Notting Hill Gate should be the next move, given the circumstances.

solittletime · 03/05/2019 08:32

It's the 3rd of May AND a Friday at that! Wake up everyone! Can only be Bethnal Green or game over

northerngirl2012 · 03/05/2019 08:35

Not game over, tactical move three with Bethnal Green, I’ll being bold Bond Street

Debenhamshandtowel · 03/05/2019 08:46

I see what you were trying to do there, but you forgot the recent amalgamation of bus routes. An easy mistake to make.

Fairlop

PinguForPresident · 03/05/2019 09:27

Fairlop? Zone 4 this close to a new moon? Goodness, that's a gauche move. Allow me to return some style to the game with a deft

Embankment

I think we can all agree the possibilities are endless from this point

MaudAndOtherPoems · 03/05/2019 09:31

Delighted to see a new game in progress - it’s been several months since the last one and I hear that most of the regulars are out of rehab now (although the Colonel’s superinjunction has still not been lifted).

Has anyone yet tried a Boddington’s Reverse to

Penge West?

BasilWhoosh · 03/05/2019 09:50

Boddington's Reverse? I thought that move was now disallowed thanks to the 2015 Ludlow ruling? Surely the only possible move from Embankment can be a Millington's Twist which would lead you to Baker Street?

PinguForPresident · 03/05/2019 09:58

The game appears to be played by 1948 rules, Maud. Meaning that you simply can't venture a Boddingtons unless it's preceded by a Double Fotherington, which is not the sort of move I play these days, as well you know!

I favour simple, elegant play as is the current style in all the finest MC salons, hence a Betham's Ellipsis to

Cutty Sark For Maritime Greenwich

MaudAndOtherPoems · 03/05/2019 11:31

The 1948 rules suit me very well. After all, I was part of the steering committee which drew them up, after a misinterpretation of the Helsinki Protocols led to that regrettable incident at the playoffs for the 1946 world championship. For many of us, the 1948 Rules are definitive and for that reason (although it pains me to say it) I look askance at those players who are making interventions without actually playing a move. Under the 1948 Rules (see Codicil DXVII) that would put them in knockings for a week.

Anyway, let’s move on.

High Street Kensington

DameMargaretofChalfont · 03/05/2019 13:04

Oh Bloody Hell Maud.

I thought an agreement was in place to never mention (or even refer) to the 1946 incident!!!!

Goodness, let's move on quickly!!!!

I'm easing us back onto safe ground now with Baker Street.
