Did your husband ask your father’s permission before he asked you?

If possible, just a yes or no.

OP posts:
littlecabbage · 29/04/2019 18:49

Yes. Happened without my knowledge and I wasn't too fussed at the time. But I am older and wiser now, and will be advising my sons NOT to do the same.

Hermagsjesty · 29/04/2019 18:50

No

RomanyQueen1 · 29/04/2019 18:50

No, I'd have dumped him tbh. I'm in my 50's and even 30 years ago it was old fashioned and misogynistic.

KateTheShrew · 29/04/2019 18:50

No. I think my dad would have been a bit bemused if he had!

FenellaMaxwell · 29/04/2019 18:52

Hell no. My dad would have told him he was asking the wrong person! Grin

WutheringFrights · 29/04/2019 18:52

Yes and my Dad replied ‘about bloody time’

madeyemoodysmum · 29/04/2019 18:53

No but he asked once I said yes

IncrediblySadToo · 29/04/2019 18:57

No but dh and my dad had a little private talk after I had already told my parents we were engaged. No idea what was said by either man. It was something dh initiated. I bloody hope he wasn't asking permission

WTAF?

That’s WAY worse than indulging in a little tradition.

No but when my daughters get married I've told them they've got to get permission off my hubby. I think it's the right thing to do

What???

Why???

Jesus wept. It’s 2019 and you’re teaching your daughters they need their fathers permission to make decisions as adults?

Welliesandpyjamas · 29/04/2019 18:59

No!
And DH and I walked down the aisle of the registry office together.

elliejjtiny · 29/04/2019 18:59

Yes

Farmmum7 · 29/04/2019 18:59

No - there wasn't really a proposal though we just decided we wanted to get married and that was it! We went engagement ring shopping together and told everyone after.

RidgedPerfection · 29/04/2019 19:00

Not permission, but he visited my parents and let them know of his intentions as a courtesy; they believed it was very thoughtful of him.

shirleyschmidt · 29/04/2019 19:01

Yes

Jackielaffertyiscold · 29/04/2019 19:01

Ginger1982 · 29/04/2019 19:04

Asked my mum.

cropcirclesinthefields · 29/04/2019 19:04

Not that I know of but dad knew we were getting married and was happy with it all.

Orangesox · 29/04/2019 19:05

Grin No! We mutually decided we were getting married after almost 11 years of being in a relationship.

And like a PP, we walked down the aisle of the registry office together

Sculpin · 29/04/2019 19:06

No

NicoAndTheNiners · 29/04/2019 19:09
