Did your husband ask your father’s permission before he asked you?

If possible, just a yes or no.

WifOfBif · 29/04/2019 19:13

Yes.

JellyNo15 · 29/04/2019 19:14

No way. We got engaged thirty two years ago when I was eighteen. While I love and respect my Dad I didn't need his permission to marry. I can't believe that anyone would in the twenty first century.

popehilarious · 29/04/2019 19:16

Not exactly permission - but rang and spoke to my mum first then my dad, more as a courtesy! He's not at all traditional etc but thought they'd appreciate the gesture and would've gone ahead whatever they said (he knew they'd be delighted)

In retrospect he probably also wanted to let them know where we were going as he took me away to a mystery location to propose...

mellongoose · 29/04/2019 19:20

Yes. My dad said "you'll have to convince her first though" 😂 Raised traditional but independent daughters 👍

BentBaastard · 29/04/2019 19:21

Yes

WokenUp · 29/04/2019 19:33

Yes

LikeSilver · 29/04/2019 19:35

No, I proposed to him.

cinders15 · 29/04/2019 19:35

No

Dollywilde · 29/04/2019 19:35

He informed him that he planned to propose to me but wasn’t asking for agreement or a blessing. (He got it, but my dad’s reaction would have made fuck all difference).

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 29/04/2019 19:36

No

supadupapupascupa · 29/04/2019 19:36

DF told him I'd make my own mind up 😂

moanyhole · 29/04/2019 19:41

Just for his blessing not permission. Didn't bother me

firawla · 29/04/2019 19:41

princesskatethefirst · 29/04/2019 19:49

No buts he was dead anyway

CremantDeLoireSocialist · 29/04/2019 19:51

No.

It's interesting that nobody asked their DH's parents' permission. It's almost as if there was some sort of sexual double standard.

runningtogetskinny · 29/04/2019 19:52

No, neither of them but my daughter's fiancé phoned my husband to ask him because an older man at work told him he had to 😂

Thatsnotmyotter · 29/04/2019 19:52

He informed him that he planned to propose to me but wasn’t asking for agreement or a blessing. (He got it, but my dad’s reaction would have made fuck all difference).

This. He went roundup show him the ring with a bottle of drink. At no point did he ask him if he could, just told him that was what he was doing.

itbemay1 · 29/04/2019 19:53

No

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 29/04/2019 19:54

Yes. I think it’s stupid and outdated but I knew my dad would appreciate the gesture. I’m glad he did cos my dad died suddenly a few months later so didn’t see the wedding.

SenecaFalls · 29/04/2019 19:54

No

Son-in-law didn't ask DH's permission for our daughter, either.

BettysLeftTentacle · 29/04/2019 19:54

No. He asked my Mum Grin
