Did your husband ask your father’s permission before he asked you?

If possible, just a yes or no.

Thinking back, I think my dad was a bit miffed he didn't ask but , as pp said, I'm not a possession to be owned.

Also as with a PP - he didn't ask me, we decided together

zod1ac19 · 29/04/2019 17:11

Yes - and I'm happy he did. Not because we needed permission, or because I was property to be handed over, but simply because that's a traditional approach and my dad would have appreciated the gesture.

This ^^

No. Anyway I told DH we should get married (after asking twice in the years before). And then we told our families (who all live far away)

SunshineCake · 29/04/2019 17:12

No.

He's not in my life so would have been ridiculous to do so.

IWriteCode · 29/04/2019 17:12

LOL no.

WhatHaveIFound · 29/04/2019 17:12

Yes, but only as a joke by fax (DF was abroad at the time) as we would have got married anyway.

hippermiddleton · 29/04/2019 17:12

yes

although he spoke to both my parents, and it was more of a request for their blessing, rather than my hand, as DH says he'd have married me anyway. (Cheers.)

downcasteyes · 29/04/2019 17:14

No, fuck's sake, NO. If he had, my Dad would have read the riot act about consent and women being their own people and not chattels to be passed from one man to another. Ugh, gross.

No.

Dad didn’t walk me down the aisle either (very small registry office wedding). He & FIL were our witnesses though.
