Prompted or inspired by another thread, I miss early 2000 Monsoon for beautiful dresses, 1990s Next for work (mainly), and going back in time C&A and littlewoods for uniform and school coats (my mum bought those though :) ) and the Marshall Ward catalogue my mum used to get for summer holiday stuff. Doesn't Chelsea Girl still exist but with a different name now?

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 23/04/2019 19:47

Richard shops for me. I bought a lovely lbd for my 6th form 'prom' and I had a couple of long knitted tube skirts that lasted for years and saw me through pregnancy without losing their shape.
Clothes shopping is really sad now - all cheap fabric and garish prints in the mid price shops now. The British high street used to be amazing for clothes shopping. We've lost so much now.

River island - Chelsea girl

woodhill · 23/04/2019 19:49

Quality used to be amazing in Laura Ashley in 80s - not now unfortunately Sad

I used to work in Hyper hyper across the road from Kensington market!! I remember them selling a coat in the shape of a banana! 🍌

florence11 · 23/04/2019 19:57

Republic. Got a few bits from there still, but rapidly declining.

NewYoiker · 23/04/2019 20:03

Tammy girl! 😂

NewYoiker · 23/04/2019 20:06

Also Jane Norman dresses were the bomb at one point- but better than the dresses were the bags you got for buying a dress... as the you could take your pe kit to school in one and automatically be 'cool'

I was never allowed to take my pe kit in one as I had a special backpack for my pe kit. Thanks mum! Grin

This thread is bringing back memories!

My mum shopped in Richards in the 80s.

I used to spend weekends trying stuff on in Chelsea Girl and What She Wants and only occasionally actually buying something.

Loved Kookai and Morgan. Also a shop called Krisp, that I think was a small chain (?) and sold similar style clothes.

I miss Woolies. Lots of DC1’s baby clothes were bought there (I think you can still get the Ladybird range online).

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 23/04/2019 20:47

Biba
Bus Stop
Esprit
Eisenegger
Jane Norman
Kookai

StoorieHoose · 23/04/2019 20:49

I loved Flip. The Glasgow store was just the best place for a good rummage

Hoi Polloi was a great shop too

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 23/04/2019 20:56

Laura Ashley in the pie crust collar Princess Diana era. I loved my pink linen sailor dress...
And Woolworths... Sad

NotMeNoNo · 23/04/2019 21:09

Due to the quality, there are still hundreds of those Laura Ashley dresses on ebay!

FiremanKing · 23/04/2019 21:18

I used to love Laura Ashley dresses in this style. I think I may have even had this one.

Worn with a white body or t shirt underneath or on its own

FiremanKing · 23/04/2019 21:22

I had this or one very similar

I’d wear it now, it’s so pretty.

Dewysungoddess · 23/04/2019 21:40

Richard shop

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 25/04/2019 07:53

@FiremanKing what a blast from the past that link was. I worked for laura ashley-we called those dungarees (or DG's) So cute!!!
Why didn't I keep all of my stuff?
Literally had 100s of items of clothing...

Ariela · 25/04/2019 08:30

My last Benneton jumper has bit the dust, and frankly cannot find anything nice enough to replace it.
I have a really nice top and matching skirt, sort of swirly blue,. the top has 3 sea shell buttons on one shoulder, and the skirt is mid calf and hange beautifully just wide enough at the bottom so it whirls around like the sea from C&A that I wore pretty much every week all summer for work for years. It's still wearable today (other than the fact I'm a stone too big for it), so I'm aiming to shed that stone because I adore the outfit.

Connieston · 25/04/2019 08:48

I'd love to see the outfit! It sounds great! I might go on eBay for some more walks down memory lane...

Ah yes, C&A... used to be one of the few places you could get maternity wear (which was awful - all billowing dresses with sailor collars) or ski wear on the high street. And I loved Clockhouse.

YorkieTheRabbit · 25/04/2019 09:07

The old Principles, good quality and they had an alteration service
Solo
Knickerbox, nice underwear not the tat that turned up in Ann Summers
La Senza. They did lovely nightwear as well as good bras, everything came wrapped in tissue with scented beads scattered in the bag or box. Smile
