As the title says - what do you honestly eat on an average day?

OP posts:
wheresmymojo · 20/04/2019 09:01

@butterry

One meal every two days Shock

How do you deal with the hunger?

MoreSlidingDoors · 20/04/2019 09:04

I regularly fast for between 24 and 36 hours.

Never feel properly hungry when doing it.

GenevaMaybe · 20/04/2019 09:10

Coffee when I wake up
At the office another coffee and a banana and rice cakes with peanut butter
Lunch is usually a poke bowl or chicken and quinoa salad, then a cup of tea and mini kit kat
When I get in from work I have a glass of wine and a handful of nuts and crisps
Dinner is meat and fish or veg and then some dark chocolate.
I’m 5’5” and 53kg. Have been for years

caringiscreepy · 20/04/2019 10:16

Breakfast: coffee. Then after school run I'll have some pineapple
Lunch: hummus and celery and crackers
Dinner: don't eat red meat / much poultry and have variations of fish / vegetarian curry/ noodles

I don't snack much but usually nuts / wasabi rice crackers/ banana occasional bag of crisps or bit of chocolate

buttery can I ask what your condition is? I have inflammatory arthritis and I've read various studies, nothing conclusive that suggest keto might help. Haven't tried it yet though.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 20/04/2019 10:39

FurrySlipperBoots, That's such a lot of great tips, thank you! I've bought numerous pretty glasses and beakers to try to encourage me but it doesn't work beyond a day or two. I've copied and pasted that list and I'm going to try those. I'm determined to drink.more.water!

MoreSlidingDoors, I fast as well sometimes, I just feel like it. I also eat my veggies on the plate first and have to be pretty much coerced to eat breakfast, I just don't like eating in the morning either.

Thatsnotmyotter, bully for you. Nobody's commented on the way you eat, why do you find the thread so 'hilarious'? Must people do things exactly the same way as you do? I get that maybe some people post lists that probably don't bear any relation to reality but, if you don't draw attention/acknowledge them the those wanting an audience don't get one. Not difficult.

Same for you, fallafal, live and let live. The threads are interesting, I actually get some good meal ideas that I haven't thought of. The only bits I find tedious and distracting are the not-at-all-amusing 'lick a carrot' posts.

fallafal · 20/04/2019 11:02

It's funny because it's so competitive lying, and worlds away from real life for the majority of people many of us encounter.

It's less funny because some of these sound like they're bordering on eating disorders, which could trigger or normalise them in others who are eating perfectly normal diets. I took a long time recovering from one of those, and being able to swallow food to survive again.

So, it's wonderful that you've found some meal plans (and Pinterest is another great place for these), but I'm never going to ever think that the "I eat once every equinox" sort of posts are great. (And yes, I'm purposefully using hyperbole there so as not to pick on any one poster.)

wheresmyhairytoe · 20/04/2019 11:08

First thing-glass of water.

Breakfast - poached egg on toast or oat flakes with oat milk.

Dinner - Salad with either tuna, eggs or falafel. Crisps and fruit.

Tea - Bolognese, chilli, stew, roast, Fajitas, whatever we've got in.

Evening will have a cup of tea and 4 squares of Bournville chocolate.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 20/04/2019 11:09

fallafal me too. That's why it's not funny for me. Those posts make me shudder, they're hugely triggering and posted by twats quite frankly.

The only way to make them stop is ignore them, don't give them the oxygen they're craving. And now I'm doing just that.

I will have a look at Pinterest, I've never taken any interest in that. Thanks for the tip. >>> off to investigate. I may be back with questions.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 20/04/2019 11:11

... oh and I forgot to say, fallafal, good for you, bloody well done getting to the other side. Thanks

cricketmum84 · 20/04/2019 11:16

I'm mainly just jealous of all the size 8s on this thread that eat bread and ice cream and stay thin. Sad whereas I glance in the direction of a biscuit and instantly gain 10lbs.

Raisinbrain · 20/04/2019 11:45

Breakfast:
Banana
Greek yoghurt (plain, full fat)
Coffee with soy milk

Lunch:
Sandwich (home made)
More coffee with soy milk

Snacks:
Rice cakes with peanut butter if I'm hungry in the afternoon
Sometimes some cake/chocolate if there's some in the office
Peppermint tea

Dinner:
Pasta/pizza/roast/fish n chips (whatever DH has cooked)
Some wine/ beer (not every night)
Some chocolate/cake/biscuits
Peppermint tea

I'm 5'4" and a size 10. Getting flabby around the middle and could do with cutting out the chocolate!

Theoldwoman · 20/04/2019 12:38

Breakfast is usually poached eggs on toast OR porridge with fruit.

Morning tea - biscuits

Lunch - usually cheese on toast or a sandwich

Afternoon - fruit or nuts

Dinner - meat and veges.

Before bed - yoghurt or a banana or ice cream.

WhatNowRandy · 20/04/2019 13:52

@fallafal - an awful lot of people do have disordered eating habits in one way or another; whether they have an actual diagnosis or not, and whether they realise this or not. I certainly do, so in a thread that asks what I HONESTLY eat normally, this is obviously reflected.

Yesterday I had:

  • Huel and black coffee for breakfast
  • Fruit salad and two mini ice creams during the day
  • Semi-homemade fish burger and some salad for dinner
  • 2 G&Ts
ateaspoonplease · 20/04/2019 14:21

Today

Breakfast/brunch: half a tin of baked beans on two slices of wholemeal bread, with a fried egg in Fry light and a Linda McCartney sausage

Lunch: an Easter egg and two kinder buenos

Dinner will be some noodles and sweetcorn and probably another Linda McCartney.
And will probably have another kinder bueno

gotmychocolateimgood · 20/04/2019 15:44

I'm size 8 but short! Bmi is 21.

Pancakes for breakfast with lemon curd

Coffee

Bbq sausage, chicken thigh and salad, tiny bit of potato. Small scoop of creme egg ice cream. 3 x tiny chocolate eggs.

Just having veg soup for dinner.

butterry · 20/04/2019 20:58

@wheresmymojo I think it's because I follow a minimal carb diet so you find you just don't get hungry as much. Sometimes I don't feel hunger even when it's my time to eat a meal but I have to always make sure that when I do eat I eat enough to satiate and meet my macros for the day

@caringiscreepy I have severe insulin resistance which is the cause of my PCOS and diabetes. I followed keto way of eating and naturally progressed to different fasts - initially practising 16:8 then extended fasts of several days before settling on alternate day fasts. You can read up on Dr Fung for more info. I have read about keto and fasting both being beneficial to arthritis as anti-inflammatory. It comes easily to me now but was difficult to begin with. I haven't seen any negatives personally so far and have been closely monitored by my consultants over the past nearly 2 years I have practiced this.

Newbie1981 · 20/04/2019 21:43

Preference is an egg based breakfast, or ryvita with cottage cheese.

Usually something left over from the previous nights dinner and warmed up. Or salad (usually not very healthy salads to be honest- ie with salad cream or whatever!) Or Deliveroo 😀

Always from scratch (examples)- Thai chicken salad, Pho, fish n veg, chilli, stir fry, curry, veggie lasagna. Try to do some quorn things occasionally to be a bit better but do bloody love my meat.

FurrySlipperBoots · 20/04/2019 22:28

Today I had 'breakfast' (if you can call it that around 10:30!) of a small glass of Innocent banana and coconut smoothie. Lunch was 2 large platefuls of my mum's pasta salad - white pasta shells, red onion, kidney beans, sweetcorn, red pepper and green pepper, drenched in oily homemade vinaigrette. One of my favourite meals ever that! I had quite a bit of lettuce sprinkled with mustard cress too, and 2 chunky mint chocolate Leibniz biscuits after. Lunch wasn't until around 3:30/4 and I'm trying not to eat too late in the day as it keeps me awake, so I didn't have tea.

I'm aged 30, weigh 11.5 stone and am a size 14. I'd like to lose a couple of stone and I am working on it, gradually! It gets easier as we get closer to summer and there's all that lovely fruit to fill up on, and the heat takes your appetite!

ateaspoonplease · 20/04/2019 23:06

Update on what I thought I was gonna have versus what I did have: thought I was gonna have noodles for dinner, ending up eating two kinder buenos and the packet or chocolate buttons that were in the Easter egg instead. And a handful of sunflower seeds
I do want to eat healthier, but I so often end up eating chocolate instead of one my meals, it's so bad, but I can get so moody without

Sunonthepatio · 20/04/2019 23:12

Porridge with fruit or 2 eggs on toast

Soup or salad with protein, or leftover from previous evening

NaomifromMilkshake · 21/04/2019 09:00

Sammie2510 · 04/08/2021 09:00

@cheeseypuff

A massive salad & a ton of veggies..... only joking Grin

Breakfast: Cup of tea & depending on the day
Yogurt, fruit & granola + toast & butter
Cereal + toast
or eggs of some sort on toast

Lunch: sandwich & crisps or salad, fruit

Tea: something like Spag Bol, curry & rice, Fish/meat & veg usual stuff

Water & tea at various intervals

Snacks - either something like fruit or a babybel, biscuits/ small chocolate stuff
Kids tea leftovers (trying not to though!)

I really don't want to sound rude but are you at a healthy weight? I need to get a sort of day eating plan and this sounds like a "normal diet" that I can base mine around. Thanks, again I hope thats not offensive!
MissTrip82 · 04/08/2021 09:53

I do eat a lot of vegies because I’m a big eater. If I ate as much as I want to of higher calorie food I’d be enormous. So lots of vegies it is.

Usually have fruit and plain yoghurt for breakfast. Cheese and (lots of) salad sandwich for lunch. Some chopped vegies and dip as well.

Dinner is one of stir fry with tofu; vegetable curry; lentil curry; lentil ‘cottage’ pie; lentil pasta; chickpea curry; Haloumi and vegies. Etc. All with extra steamed vegies or a bowl of salad.

To drink I have water, sparkling water or black coffee.

Have a treat every day so either a bought coffee, a Pepsi max, a wine or some chocolate.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 04/08/2021 10:06

Porridge, raspberries, pumpkin seeds, milk, yohurt
Boiled egg on 2 oatcakes
Rocket, spinach, watercress, with toms, cucumber, olives, sugarsnaps, and either prawns, chicken, salmon, plus a few tablespoons of puy lentils, mustard dressing
Dinner - tray bake of mediterranean veg, sweet potato or white beans, passata, a couple of bacon rashers or goats cheese or a piece of basa fillet on top with lemon, or some beef meatballs
OR
stirfry veg with buckwheat soba or black rice noodles and chicken, turkey, prawns or pork
Veg includes spinach and brocolli

Sometimes I leave out the meat and just have veg, or sometimes I just have soup and bread, or mussels and bread

Snacks- apple, orange, banana, natural yoghurt, strawberries

I take spatone daily as I can't consume enough iron.

Occasional packet of crisps or dark chocolate.

ItsSunnyOutside · 04/08/2021 10:17

Breakfast is usually toast with marmite, then a small bowl of cereal. Cup of tea.

Mid morning, I have some fruit. Coffee

I never really have a proper lunch, usually just picky bits of food, abit of cheese, maybe a few olives, a packet of crisps.

Tea is usually pretty hearty. Either fish with lots of veg and some potatoes/ tacos with salsa/ prawn thai curry/ a stir fry with rice or a mezze type tea with lots of things to pick at.
Sometimes have abit of chocolate or a cookie dh brings home as a treat!
