Harlyn Bay. Cornwall.
Great for swimming, surfing and rock pooling.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 15/04/2019 12:42

Harlyn Bay. Cornwall.

Ooooh yes, Constantine Bay and Treyarnon Bay round there are also brilliant as well.

Although I do remember being at Harlyn Bay one particular summers day, and we literally had to carve out the tiniest patch of sand to sit in as it was so crowded, I've never seen anything like it!

Shell Bay, other side of the harbour from Sandbanks in Dorset. Not far from Swanage, the best town beach.

All my favourite beaches become horrid when the tide/wind/weather system combines to either bring in loads of jellyfish or loads of seaweed! All those along the North Cornish coast are my definition of gorgeous with particular favourite being Watergate Bay. However those in Pembrokeshire in Wales are also gorgeous.

Like with anywhere though, it depends on a) what you want from a beach and b) the weather - rainy beach days are just horrid once you are over 10!

Filey, smooth sandy beach, the brig to walk along.

Anywhere on the Gower.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 15/04/2019 13:09

@Palominoo Leigh on Sea beach is at its best and most scenic in the winter when all the bird life arrives and we get the amazing sunsets

I get annoyed in the summer and want all the day trippers do go away so I tend to avoid it!

Heyha · 15/04/2019 13:12

Holkham
The Gower in general but especially Caswell

So many in North Norfolk, we could practically go to a different one for each day of the week.
Also love Camber Sands and some of the pebbly beaches for a good long tramp. The kids enjoyed Pevensey.

Heulog · 15/04/2019 14:28

Lovely to see so many Pembrokeshire beaches mentioned here!
In the summer it's:
Broad Haven south
Barafundle
Tenby /Saundersfoot
But for a wintery walk to blow the cobwebs away you can't beat Newgale.

gutrotweins · 15/04/2019 14:36

North Norfolk for me too. Gorgeous, unspoilt miles of golden sand.

And Northumberland of course, although that's usually a bit more wild and woolly!

pansydansy · 15/04/2019 14:37

The best beach for me is kynance cove in Cornwall. Absolutely stunning!

pansydansy · 15/04/2019 14:39

Can't wait to go back!

You can't have been to many beaches OP
There are literally hundreds of beautiful beaches in the UK.
Not going to tell you my very favourite, as I don't want it getting overcrowded by hundreds of thousands on MNer Wink

What is it you are looking for in a beach ?
Do you want soft sand?
Peace and quite?
Amenities?
Ice cream?
Donkeys / trampolines?
swimming?
Wildlife?
Easy access?
Being able to take your dog?
Being able to take your car?
Wide expanses for big games of cricket or flying kites?
Punch and Judy?
Caves?
Sand dunes?
Toilets and cafes?
Surfing?

Give us more clues and people can help narrow down the search a bit.

There are loads of lovely beaches in the UK, but my absolute favourite is Sandbanks, Dorset.

Smellslikemiddleagespirit · 15/04/2019 15:02

Can’t you at least hint at it, BackForGood? 🙂

WingBingo · 15/04/2019 15:02

Cornwall has some beautiful beaches.

This is near St Ives.

I love the beaches of Northumberland , Tynemouth Long Sands , there’s just something about it especially on a bleak cold day.

Tregirls /Hawkers cove just outside Padstow and I say that as someone who grew up on the Gower. Once I saw this beach it made me question what all the fuss about the Gower was.

leccybill · 15/04/2019 15:38

Pleased to see Tenby and Pembrokeshire recommended, going there this week for the first time - excited!
As for bad beaches, the one I grew up beside in Merseyside is a bit grim but Freshfield is actually lovely, rugged and natural.

harajukubabe · 15/04/2019 15:48

Lots of nice beaches in Cornwall. If he weather is great, feels tropical!

lostinspats · 15/04/2019 15:58

I'm the same as BackForGood

My favourite beach has bits of sand dotted in between the miles of rocks so maybe doesn't count as a tickalltheboxes beach. No roads and no parking for miles. Never mind, come and stand there with me for a moment.....

The water is different everyday but today it's dark blue or grey. No, it's dark blue. Or grey. We're trying to stay upright in rough salt wind and we're perching on magnificent low lying rutted rock formations, dark reddish brown streaked with quartz ribbons. Behind us huge folds and rolls of rock and shallow caves shout back the sea's roar in a never-ending argument. The light changes every minute and the smells take you forward and pull you back in time and memory. Our sadness at leaving is made a little gentler by the waves of relaxation washing over us like the gentlest of tides. A guaranteed epic night's sleep, one energy exchanged for another.

God's own country. Her own beach. Don't you dare go there Grin
