I've only ever been to shit beaches in this country but I'm sure there are some beautiful ones and I'm keen to explore 🏖

It depends what kind of beach you like OP. I like a nice rocky cove myself, and I can think of a few great ones. But if you're after a big stretch of sand then that's different.

But yes as PPs said - Wales Northumberland, Cornwall, Scotland - there are beautiful beaches all over the UK.

NicksWife08 · 15/04/2019 11:51

For sandy beaches:
Croyde bay
West witterings
Camber sands.

Things to do and amusements:
Old town Hastings
Littlehampton

Depends on your idea of what ‘best’ is.

Porthluney Beach in Cornwall is my favourite. You can park right next to the beach and there is a fantastic cafe serving craft beer and amazing slow cooked pork and beef rolls. As with many Cornish beaches there are lots of little caves and pools to explore.

ThisIsTheEndgame · 15/04/2019 11:59

Walton-on-the-naze if you want amusements etc and Frinton if you don't. They're a very short walk from each other. Lots of lovely beaches on the Norfolk coast too.

But what makes a beach 'shit'? I think most beaches in the UK and Ireland are lovely. (Not Brighton though.)

Palominoo · 15/04/2019 12:05

All the beaches on The Gower here in Swansea where I now live are great in their own way and there is something for everyone.

However, Swansea Bay which is lovely with great views is neglected by the shitty council who do not do much in the way of removing litter.

They have vigilant dog wardens ready to fine if your dog is on the wrong part of the beach as there are dog no go areas at certain times but don’t do much about dirty nappies, take away wrappers, picnic remnants, portable bbqs left, bottles etc.

weegiemum · 15/04/2019 12:06

Luskentyre, Seilebost, Northton (Isle Of Harris, Outer Hebrides).

I've been to most of the other beaches listed here. Nothing else comes close.

Branleuse · 15/04/2019 12:07

Most beautiful beach in UK ive ever seen was Pedn Vounder in Cornwall, but its a hell of a steep climb, and if I remember rightly, was nudist.
I also love Durdle Door.

Palominoo · 15/04/2019 12:08

In Englansbi used to live on Leigh on Sea and hated the beach despite living a stones throw from it as unless you got up very early the beach was mobbed.

I only enjoyed going to the beach when I moved to Wales and now I love them.

When the children were small we enjoyed the beach at Walmer and Deal as it wasn’t too crowded, especially Walmer.

NameChangeNugget · 15/04/2019 12:11

@ThisIsTheEndgame

Totally agree about Frinton, love it. Not so keen on Jaywick.....

Branleuse · 15/04/2019 12:14

I also really love Gorleston beach in norfolk

formul1isSoBoringNow · 15/04/2019 12:14

Need to know your criteria for a lovely beach. I have my own preferences and some other people's preferences make me screw up my face. But I can appreciates their choices.

So give us some more info and we'll be able to find what you are looking for.

worl · 15/04/2019 12:17

Old favourite, Bridlington

Smellslikemiddleagespirit · 15/04/2019 12:17

Palominoo I clearly live not too far from you!
A walk from Cwm Ivy down towards whiteford point, across the dunes then back along Whiteford Sands is my favourite walk in the whole world. That vast and quiet beach is so awesome.

I love Broad Haven beach at Bosherston, Pembrokeshire as well.

wibbleee · 15/04/2019 12:21

holkam beach.
burnham overy staithe (its a 1.5 mile walk to it along a lovely path).
wells next the sea

these are all officially parts of the same beach. Its been used as film sets over the years as well.

grasspigeons · 15/04/2019 12:22

The pembrokeshire coast is wonderful. Lots in north devon. In Kent i like Botany Bay

wibbleee · 15/04/2019 12:23

old hunstanton

madcatladyforever · 15/04/2019 12:23

Local to me Camber sands is amazing.

SnugglySnerd · 15/04/2019 12:24

Oxwich bay on the Gower or Croyde, N Devon.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 15/04/2019 12:26

It depends what you like in a beach.
For me it's Whitesands in st davids pembrokeshire. We live in pembrokeshire and it's one of the few beaches we visit because it has a dog ban.

Backseatonthebus · 15/04/2019 12:27

Any of the Outer Hebrides beaches. White sand and turquoise water. Nowhere else in the UK compares.

Weepingwillows12 · 15/04/2019 12:27

I love three cliffs or barrafundle Bay on the gower. Or Tenby if you want stuff to do. I also love Cornwall but there are too many nice beaches to list. I think I would love some of the Hebridean beaches too but not been yet

AdaColeman · 15/04/2019 12:29

Seaton Sluice Northumberland
Marloes Sands Pembrokeshire

Smellslikemiddleagespirit · 15/04/2019 12:31

Barafundle is not in Gower, but is indeed beautiful.

Seeline · 15/04/2019 12:32

Family beach - Yaverland on the IoW
