Can you put one arm over your shoulder

Mememeplease · 12/04/2019 08:15

... And touch fingers with your other hand coming up diagonally from below?

I have never been able to do this, regardless of my size or fitness. Otoh elderly mil can easily do it.

Which is more common?

Yep, I can.

isabellerossignol · 12/04/2019 08:19

Yes, and I can also put each arm behind my back and reach up and touch the back of my head.

Mememeplease · 12/04/2019 08:19

I'm a million miles away Sad

I used to be able to but since having frozen shoulder I have no hope.

Sawyershair · 12/04/2019 08:21

Yes but I don’t think it has anything to do with fitness. It’s more how long your arms are isn’t it?

Ex couldn’t do it and he was Uber fit and healthy

2 of my DC can’t do it either

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 12/04/2019 08:24

Yes, although one way round I can only touch finger tips, but the other way round I can hold hands Grin I am hypermobile though...

museumum · 12/04/2019 08:25

Nope. My shoulders are muscular and very inflexible. I wish they were more flexible.
I’ve never had a problem doing bras up behind me though (even running bras).

dancemom · 12/04/2019 08:26

Nope but I have tight lats

CarcerDun · 12/04/2019 08:27

I can't.... but I can touch my nose with my tongue and I can put my hands flat on the floor whilst standing.

Lordamighty · 12/04/2019 08:28

I can do it on one side but not the other, I’ve never really worked out which is the least flexible shoulder.

BibbityBobbityEars · 12/04/2019 08:28

No - not even close!

I’m very fit though (and have big arm muscles).

Yellowcar2 · 12/04/2019 08:29

Just tried and yes my DS6 is currently trying to no avail. Grin

GottaGetUp · 12/04/2019 08:30

I don’t think it can be how long your arms are, unless it’s about the ratio of forearm to upper arm? It’s how flexible your shoulder joint is. I can do it with my right arm up and left arm down, but not the other way round as my right shoulder is dodgy.

isabellerossignol · 12/04/2019 08:30

Oh, and although I have very flexible shoulders, on the other hand my calves are so tight that I have never been able to touch my toes, even as a child.

My sister can not just touch her toes but can put the palms of her hands on the ground when standing with her feet together. If she stands with her feet slightly more than shoulder width apart she can rest her entire forearms on the ground Shock

rightreckoner · 12/04/2019 08:30

I can and so can my 78 yo mum. Also we both can put our hands flat on the floor which my 12 yo can’t. But it’s not fitness sadly. My mum is registered disabled and can’t walk more than about ten yards. It’s hyper mobility.

Pinkarsedfly · 12/04/2019 08:31

Yep, but only after a year and a half of yoga lessons.

It’s handy for getting zip-backed dresses off and on when it’s just me in the house Grin

GrandmasNightie · 12/04/2019 08:32

Yes I can - am overweight, unfit and not flexible. Surprised I could to be honest!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 12/04/2019 08:33

Yes I can.

But I can’t touch my toes easily, because I have very tight hamstrings, despite doing lots of exercise and stretching. My balance isn’t that good either.

ShannonRockallMalin · 12/04/2019 08:33

Yes I can but I have hypermobility. I'm certainly not super fit! Can also put my hands flat on the floor without bending my knees.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 12/04/2019 08:35

Yes I can quite easily

SoftBlocks · 12/04/2019 08:36

Yes. I’m quite bendy though and have very long arms and hands like an orangutanGrin

BadTigerKitty · 12/04/2019 08:37

Yes, I can.

dancinfeet · 12/04/2019 08:39

we use this as one of our basic tests for shoulder flexibility in acrobatic dance. Its to do with shoulder flexibility.

DIZZYTIGGER87 · 12/04/2019 08:39

I can, but like others I have hyper mobility.

PorpentinaScamander · 12/04/2019 08:43

Nope. Never could. Also cant touch my toes without bending my knees. And I used to dance 6 days per week.
