The best hotel you've ever stayed in (or "your favourite")

I'm not really asking about the most fancy/expensive/etc, but rather the hotel that you've most enjoyed staying in or that was most beautiful or well located or whatever made is the best to you. Can be in the UK or abroad (or a few!)

Talking about honeymoons with DP and it doesn't look like we're going to have the time immediately after the wedding to go away due to work and study, so we're thinking about making a list of places we want to stay/go and aim to do all of them in the first 5-10 years of marriage (depending on how expensive they are and how many we choose). I know the likelihood of us doing it is probably quite slim but it's good to dream.

We're fairly well travelled, but have only ever really travelled on the cheap or in quite generic AIs, so interesting/luxurious/fun hotels are key over "going somewhere new".

Really hoping to get some responses and spend the rest of the night googling!

It was Hotel Estherea in Amsterdam. It's on Singel canal, quite flouncy but lovely. First time, I was upgraded to a canal-view room. Lovely products in bathroom, fabulously comfy bed. I went back last year and it was all up selling and I had an attic room with no view. So disappointing. I wish I'd stayed else where.

On a slightly cheaper (albeit 5-star) budget on a Canary Island package holiday - this place is the hotel that we compare all others too now and none have matched up Lopesan Baobab

The Royal Savoy in Funchal, Madeira. You get the elevator down to the rooms rather than up. Very suitable for a 3 night weekend as well, less than 4 hr flight, really easy airport, and a 10 minute cab from the airport.

The Scarlet is between Newquay and Padstow. Lots of excellent food & activities in the area. Hotel is grown ups only, excellent views and eco ( but not in a wanky way )

The only really nice place I've stayed in is Thornbury castle, but it was lovely and a castle!

The Water Garden in Sigiriya Sri Lanka. Beautiful setting and the staff are amazing

BiggerBoat1 · 12/04/2019 16:52

Hands down the most amazing place I've been to is Hilton Head Island. All the hotels are nice.

In the UK, the place I have always wanted to stay but never got to is Burgh Island.

Probably the city I have love the most if Budapest, but only ever stayed in very budget places so can't recommend a hotel.

Armani Hotel in Dubai

Butterfly beach, Barbados. Not posh or expensive. Superb location, very rustic/authentic Caribbean

Millie2013 · 12/04/2019 17:09

Oh yes, portmerion ❤️

I remember a loveky little hotel we stayed at on the edge of Lake Garda. It was quite basic, but just lovely and the food Shock

Burgh Island Hotel, the Art Deco hotel off the south Devon coast. But it was 25 years ago so not sure what it's like now.

CakeNinja · 12/04/2019 17:18

Burgh island hotel is still lovely! Dp and I go for a weekend in January every year as a treat to ourselves for hosting huge christmases Grin just an excuse really but it’s just beautiful.

ReginaGeorgeous · 12/04/2019 17:19

Couldn't choose between Tamassa Resort in Mauritius or Rendezvous in St Lucia. Both amazing.

Whisky2014 · 12/04/2019 17:20

The reconnaissance hotel, lankawi island. And the westin langkawi is amazing too! We just had our honeymoon at these 2 hotels in November.

Locally I like Sheraton grand in Edinburgh.

The Sandy Lane in Barbados.
You just relax the moment you arrive they literally can't do enough for you, they offer an unpacking service where someone will unpack and hang all your clothes while you relax it's so amazing and Barbados is just beautiful.
It was the first holiday dh took me on when we met, not made it back as we had four dc and when we costed taking the children it worked out at around £40k Shock

On our honeymoon we stayed in some right dives but the first few nights we’re at Thala Beach Lodge, a beach/rainforest combo nearer Port Douglas in Australia. I was too jetlogged and early in my stay to clock what it really cost but ten years later I still remember it oh so much

I visited Thala Beach years ago as part of a travel agent trip, it has always stayed in my mind it’s such a beautiful hotel, amazing location.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 12/04/2019 19:52

Cosmopolitan hotel in Las Vegas. Insane. But then was my first and only trip to Vegas and everything there is insane. But fab service and gorgeous rooms with views.

In the Uk Soho Farmhouse. Not really a hotel as you stay in cute little cottages or houses and then an area with a spa and restaurants and bar and a cinema. All the most fabulous cleanest version of the country side you can imagine.
Fab hot tubs overlooking a lake and an indoor and outdoor pool.

ABC1234DEF · 12/04/2019 19:53

Opera Hotel, Riga, Latvia.

We had the superior deluxe suite with full spa access - absolutely lovely hotel and cheap as chips (was about £20pppn just before they went to the Euro)

RaskolnikovsGarret · 12/04/2019 19:54

Masseria della Volpe in Sicily. Just stunning in every way.

Another vote for the Clift in San Francisco

Also the Liberty hotel Boston. It's the old state prison! Theres a bar in the central hub of the panopticon. Loved it!

purplerabbit19 · 12/04/2019 19:56

Limewood Hotel in the New Forest. Very smart but laid back too. Amazing food and a very relaxing spa. Can't wait to go back!!
