The best hotel you've ever stayed in (or "your favourite")

I'm not really asking about the most fancy/expensive/etc, but rather the hotel that you've most enjoyed staying in or that was most beautiful or well located or whatever made is the best to you. Can be in the UK or abroad (or a few!)

Talking about honeymoons with DP and it doesn't look like we're going to have the time immediately after the wedding to go away due to work and study, so we're thinking about making a list of places we want to stay/go and aim to do all of them in the first 5-10 years of marriage (depending on how expensive they are and how many we choose). I know the likelihood of us doing it is probably quite slim but it's good to dream.

We're fairly well travelled, but have only ever really travelled on the cheap or in quite generic AIs, so interesting/luxurious/fun hotels are key over "going somewhere new".

Really hoping to get some responses and spend the rest of the night googling!

The Four Seasons in Georgetown, Washington. Lovely hotel and room but I was the service that was beyond anything I have ever known. Tiny things like the concierge asking what your plans for the day were then remembering and asking how you enjoyed that place when you returned. And my DH and DD loves the iced towels they were given when they returned from a run. They sound silly but honesty they made you feel like you were their only guests.

Hotel New York in Budapest. Love music at each meal, including breakfast was wonderful and the cafe is stunning.

I love the Covenstead in Glastonbury.
A witchy B&B, it has interesting stuff everywhere, great staff and food and is dog friendly.

The Peninsula in Kowloon. Old world glamour, amazing service, incredible rooms and the most comfortable beds! There is a fantastic spa too.
The Bale, Nusa Dua, Bali. No rooms, only villas, each with their own pool. Indoor and outdoor showers, your own butler, amazing food. It was heaven.

Gosh yes - Gleneagles. Such a delight.

I also liked the Castello in Sissi - the penthouse suite is just wonderful.

Lazybonita · 12/04/2019 11:43

Barnsley House hotel in the Cotswolds and The Royal Crescent hotel in Bath. I particularly recommend the spa at Barnsley House, it’s heavenly.

Hanging Gardens in Ubud, Bali.

I went with DP on our first holiday together (only stayed a couple of nights because it wasn't cheap and we couldn't afford to spend the whole trip there!)

The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful, the location is breathtaking (it's embedded into a forest on a mountainside), you have private infinity pools and can watch monkeys jump around the trees above your head, the food was delicious, the spa was excellent...everything about it was heavenly!

It's such a beautiful place loads of insta-travellers are going now and it's getting much more popular Sad

We also stayed at the Galaxy hotel in Macau for a few nights during a trip to Hong Kong and China. That was another gorgeous hotel with fabulous rooms that we really enjoyed (plus it has a small water park which was a blast despite us not having DCs). It's a casino though so is a bit garish and ostentatious in places, but if you're ok with that then it's fun! The outer wall isn't actually a wall, it's one-way glass so from the outside the building is huge and gold, but from your room you overlook the complex and the water park. Not somewhere for a quiet trip, but we went with a group of friends as and partied quite hard so it was brilliant.

We stayed here for a couple of nights and it was absolutely heaven. Really lovely. It is expensive but I think it was worth every penny ( we went after my FIL died and DH needed a treat). With kids we enjoyed here but you would encounter more children as it's very child friendly. We didn't use the spa at either btw, lots of walks, afternoontea, breakfast in bed, dinner in great restaurants. Have a lovely time

Sooverthemill · 12/04/2019 11:58

Ah I'd assumed that you wanted UK for some reason! I have other recommendations in EU but these are fab in UK

Ffsnosexallowed · 12/04/2019 12:00

One of three - the Melia in Milan, the Merchant in Belfast or an air bnb in Troon which was on a boat.

NeverTwerkNaked · 12/04/2019 12:01

Hotel Endsleigh in Devon is lovely, and you feel far away from every where. It is pretty expensive though.

We went to the Green House hotel in Bournemouth recently and I absolutely loved it. Beautiful food, comfy beds, and just such a “relaxed but luxurious” atmosphere. It’s a 5 minute walk to the beach and there is plenty to do in the local area. We’ve been having a stressful few months and I just felt so relaxed the moment we arrived. We only stayed a night but I felt like we had had a holiday. Will definitely be going back again!

Came on to say the Madonna Inn but I see @Sar302 has beaten me to it. Bonkers and fabulous.

Twotabbycats · 12/04/2019 12:26

Tanjung rhu, Langkawi (though it was a long time ago and is now under different management).

Cobbler's Cove, Barbados.

needsleepzzz · 12/04/2019 12:33

Constance Ephelia, Mahe, Seychelles and Heritage Awali in Mauritius, both designed with local heritage in mind, not modern high rises etc. Beautiful places.
The Edgewater, Seattle
The Rees Queenstown, NZ
Ka'anapali beach hotel, Maui - very relaxed atmosphere and lovely beach :-)
