Do you ever look at someone and think I really want to give them a make over ? There’s a Mum I see on the school run, probably about 40

Lovely slim body, and I thjnk she could really improve her look as she wears these baggy jeans
Awful trainers and fleeces and her hair is like a bush
I think even if she wanted to dress casually, she would look so so much better with some jeans that fitted well, some nice smart trainers, she’s. It not making the most of herself, somedays she clearly works as she will wear a skirt with heals and a fleece

I wouldn’t want to be so rude or ever say anything but I just think could sill dress just as causally, bit look so much better

“Sorry, I totally disagree with this. Most people change into fresh clothes every day, why wouldn't they?”

I don’t. I bathe every day, use deodorant, don’t smell and generally manage not to spill my dinner down my front. Apart from undies, why would I?
We all use far too much detergent.

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 29/03/2019 12:37

'It’s not about saying these things out loud. You shouldn’t even be thinking them.'

Grin

Good grief! We all make silent judgements. Yes, even you, person who swears otherwise.

JaneJeffer · 29/03/2019 12:37

It's very strange how a lack of care for your appearance seems to be a virtue on MN.

The thought police have arrived!

Langrish dinner down my front is my downfall but the Levis man reckons spot cleaning is the way forward.

Skyejuly · 29/03/2019 12:39

Cant say I think this at all. 8 probably look a right mess but I dont care lol

GreatDuckCookery · 29/03/2019 12:39

'It’s not about saying these things out loud. You shouldn’t even be thinking them.'

Why not? You aren’t doing anyone any harm. It’s just a passing thought. I don’t believe that the majority of you on this thread never judge anyone or anything ever.

You just have to read MN to know that that isn’t true.

teyem · 29/03/2019 12:40

I care about my appearance, I just don't care if it pleases the other parents who are dropping off their kids at the same time.

Lweji · 29/03/2019 12:40

There is a difference between thinking someone could look better (according to my standards) and really want to give them a make over.

I have to admit that when I'm bored in the Summer, I tend to notice women who wear poorly fitted bras and almost get the urge to talk to them about it. Grin But I blame the bra intervention threads for that. And I know it's my issue, not them.

Langrish · 29/03/2019 12:41

Howabout: one of the unsung beneficial outcomes of mastectomy, I have to do far less laundry 😂

IfNotNowThenWhy · 29/03/2019 12:41

NRFT but I shall guess the comments:
You are a horrible cow for judging, only the shallow and evil could ever look at someone wearing a fleece and think "urgh" and 326 comments from people claiming to not even own a mirror let alone smart clothes.
I don't think it's so terrible to think you could make someone look better. Obviously it would be a Bad thing to actually say it!
I need a bloody makeover and my roots done, but I'm skint. I'd let you do it if you paid Grin

Lweji · 29/03/2019 12:43

and 326 comments

The thread is only barely 200 at this time.

MadameAnchou · 29/03/2019 12:43

It's very strange how a lack of care for your appearance seems to be a virtue on MN.

Where's the 'lack of care' in her clothing choices? I assume she's clean and not barefooted. Maybe she wants to spend her money elsewhere, maybe she likes the clothes she wears, all sorts of reasons why people wear what they wear.

FaFoutis · 29/03/2019 12:43

Colour coordination of the kind that makes you feel such deep despair you feel that your body has finally reached the bottom of the ocean and is slowly settling there to decompose in the blackness

I'm interested to know which colour combinations have that effect on you Fizzy - because I get that exact feeling when I walk into FatFace. It's the navy and dark reddish brown I think.

thedisorganisedmum · 29/03/2019 12:44

So it is true that some women are so insecure they need to tart up and dress up for the school run! Blimey!

I draw a line at nightwear, but I always thought the school run was the exact occasion where you could wear any random ill fitted clothes grabbed on the way.

Lweji · 29/03/2019 12:45

OP, is she wearing these trainers?

Because they're by Gucci and cost £615.

“MadameAnchou

Big assumption. She may have spent 10 minutes deciding what to wear and likes it. We’re not clones.

HarrySnotter · 29/03/2019 12:47

Thanks for the permission! Mumsnet would have a fit if they found out how may times I re-wear things before washing

God @HolyForkingShit I didn't mean it like that at all, honestly! I meant that most people probably wear things like jeans/jumpers etc a few times but change something like a t shirt far more often and certainly when it's dirty. However, I promise you I don't think anyone needs my permission to wear anything. I should perhaps state at this point, that I am not exactly a fashion icon ... Grin

Lweji · 29/03/2019 12:49

Or these, at a mere £400?

DarlingNikita · 29/03/2019 12:49

I don't. Fresh underwear and socks, yes, and anything close to the skin and/or smelly (eg long-sleeved top under a jumper). But jeans/trousers and outer layers like jumpers last a good few days, particularly smelly cooking or unusual exertion notwithstanding.

And there wasn't anything wrong with that spelling and punctuation. It was a parenthesis, not a comma splice.

Have you read What Katy Did? Katy has an accident involving a spinal injury and lies around in her room in an old nightdress, in pain and cross, and without brushing her hair. A visit from her saintly invalid Cousin Helen teaches her that it is an invalid girl's duty to make her person and her room pleasing to others, and that even when you're a lively child lying flat on your back with no knowledge of whether you'll ever walk again, your first duty is to be pleasant-looking, fresh and pretty.

There's a particularly good bit where Cousin Helen realises her forehead has become wrinkled from prolonged pain, and lies there in agony in her sickbed holding her forehead smooth with her fingers so that other people won't have to have their eyesight defiled by her appearance. grin hmm

Note: this novel was published in 1872.

Nothing changes but the date.

And I bet none of you have ever masturbated either.

AnnaMagnani · 29/03/2019 12:51

I saw someone in clinic once wearing the wolf fleece and I really wanted to just stop and ask her about her thought processes on buying it.

Did you really think it looked nice?
Do you think it looks good on you?
Are you happy wearing it?
Well fantastic! I am glad someone loves it - thank-you for explaining it to me.

But unfortunately I had to address her medical problem instead Sad

ginghamtablecloths · 29/03/2019 12:52

Yes, and many of us who are interested in fashion or image probably think that a make-over would help too.

My hairdresser notices people's hair and has similar thoughts.

CostanzaG · 29/03/2019 12:53

Wow! Do you think men sit there and judge each other like this? Absolutely disgusting.
Sometimes I do the nursery run in one step up from pyjamas (jogging bottoms, jumper ....a dreaded fleece!!) Because I'll be working from home then going for a run.
That doesn't mean I don't love dressing up. I just don't feel the need to do it all the time.

I spent years in an emotionally abusive relationship where I was expected to look perfect at all times .... now I love that I don't give a shit what other people think and couldn't give a fuck if people think I'm not making the most of myself.
