Do you ever look at someone and think I really want to give them a make over ? There’s a Mum I see on the school run, probably about 40

Lovely slim body, and I thjnk she could really improve her look as she wears these baggy jeans
Awful trainers and fleeces and her hair is like a bush
I think even if she wanted to dress casually, she would look so so much better with some jeans that fitted well, some nice smart trainers, she’s. It not making the most of herself, somedays she clearly works as she will wear a skirt with heals and a fleece

I wouldn’t want to be so rude or ever say anything but I just think could sill dress just as causally, bit look so much better

OP posts:

Wtf is with the masking tape? [grin

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 29/03/2019 12:53

Where I live wolf fleeces have become an ironic thing with the hipster classes.

disrespect for the wider community

@Lweji since when did expensive mean smart or even tasteful? Your examples clearly need binning also.

JaneJeffer · 29/03/2019 12:57

I don't mean the women in the OP. Im talking about people saying they're too busy to wear clean clothes.

Ellenborough · 29/03/2019 12:58

Loads of people will be secretly agreeing with you while feeling they need to virtue signal on this thread about how nonjudgemental they are.

People think things all the time but to actually say them out loud is apparently beyond the pale. This is one such example.

Aridane · 29/03/2019 12:58

I look at other people’s gardens and think about how they might be changed/ improved. Ditto with hair / haircuts. Clearly I am an abominable judgmental cunt Grin

Lweji · 29/03/2019 12:58

Lweji since when did expensive mean smart or even tasteful?

I didn't say it did. Wink

Just pointing out that some people like the dirty/distressed look.

See ripped jeans. Yuk for me, great for many.

JaneJeffer · 29/03/2019 12:58

Of course men judge each other. I hear it all the time.

ValleyoftheHorses · 29/03/2019 12:58

Grin Could be me, I wear jeans and trainers, fleeces etc on the school run all the time.
I’m either heading to work where I change to scrubs to actually work or heading to Aldi/ home to do jobs.
I CBA a lot of the time these days. I do make an effort sometimes but not for school.
Some of the school mums at DS school seem very bothered about appearance- they are always talking about nails and make up. Even if I do get my nails done or put make up on, I don’t want to talk about it. Are you very into appearance OP?

MadameAnchou · 29/03/2019 13:00

Loads of people will be secretly agreeing with you while feeling they need to virtue signal on this thread about how nonjudgemental they are.

Loads of people also truly do not give a shit about how other people dress.

Ellenborough · 29/03/2019 13:00

Lovely slim body, and I thjnk she could really improve her look

This is interesting though....

If she'd been a fat dollop would she be a waste of your time and attention? Can only slim women have the potential to be saved with better styling?

derxa · 29/03/2019 13:00

OP At the moment I'm usually covered in lamb afterbirth and some days I'm too tired to even change into clean clothes when I go to the supermarket. What would you think?
Actually I would love a makeover if you're organising and paying for it.

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 29/03/2019 13:01

Yes, @Ariadne, I think hydrangeas are hideous things and think every garden would be improved by their removal Grin

So you don’t look at someone schlepping round the supermarket in see through leggings and think WTF?

Yeah ok.

Ellenborough · 29/03/2019 13:02

Where I live wolf fleeces have become an ironic thing with the hipster classes.

Good God. Where the fuck is that? That is certainly ironic alright. Are you sure?

MadameAnchou · 29/03/2019 13:02

“MadameAnchou

It's very strange how a lack of care for your appearance seems to be a virtue on MN”

Langrish, you just misquoted me. I did NOT write that statement. I quoted it in my response, but I did NOT write that statement.

I truly don't give a shit what other people wear. Also, thankfully, my school run days are long over.

Iggly · 29/03/2019 13:02

Since I’ve been on career break I’ve not given a shit about my appearance on the school run.

Man alive is it liberating.

teyem · 29/03/2019 13:02

I could hand you a wet wipe Derxa.

strangerthongs · 29/03/2019 13:03

I echo what others are saying.

If someone came to the school gates covered in piercings and tattoos then maybe I'd raise an (internal) eyebrow, same if they dressed in mini skirts / fishnet stockings, sky high heels etc.

But fleeces and loose jeans? no

She's picking up her kids, she's not going on a catwalk. You don't know anyone's circumstances, you don't know if even getting out of bed and dressed was easy for her or not.

What a mean post.

MigThePig · 29/03/2019 13:03

I do not have a lovely slim body so I'll continue to look like a slob.
I'm pretty sure no one looks at me thinking I could look better, they've all written me off as a bad job.

Iggly · 29/03/2019 13:04

(I am clean though!)

derxa · 29/03/2019 13:06

I could hand you a wet wipe Derxa. Grin Thanks. It's the small things which count.

Belenus · 29/03/2019 13:08

She has a great figure, small waist, hourglass and lovely skin. She dresses in a real old ladies uniform of saggy elasticated waist trousers, bandage coloured T shirts and M&S footglove shoes. I'd love for her to go for a private shopper session, but like OP i suspect my views will be unpopular.

She may be dressing like that deliberately to deflect attention. I'm tall, slim and curvy (yes, it is possible, curvy isn't a synonym for overweight). If I dress to flatter my figure I can get a lot of attention, almost all of it unwanted. I'd rather people didn't judge me for how I look and I will often wear baggy clothes that disguise my shape.

Don't assume people dress a certain way because they know no better and are just crying out for a Gok Wan wannabe to show them the way. They may just not care, or be wearing practical things, or be quite deliberately disguising themselves. You can look beyond the clothing and think "gosh you have a lovely figure" but personally I have no desire to dress people any differently from the way they're happy with.

If they're unhappy with how they look and ask for help that's different but otherwise I just think leave people be. Don't buy into the primacy of appearance.
