Do you ever look at someone and think I really want to give them a make over ? There’s a Mum I see on the school run, probably about 40

Lovely slim body, and I thjnk she could really improve her look as she wears these baggy jeans
Awful trainers and fleeces and her hair is like a bush
I think even if she wanted to dress casually, she would look so so much better with some jeans that fitted well, some nice smart trainers, she’s. It not making the most of herself, somedays she clearly works as she will wear a skirt with heals and a fleece

I wouldn’t want to be so rude or ever say anything but I just think could sill dress just as causally, bit look so much better

I would LOVE you to see me on my early morning dog walk, you'd have palpitations. I'm pretty sure some of my neighbours think I'm a bag lady by profession.

Leave the poor woman alone with your wannabe makeovering!

anniehm · 29/03/2019 16:24

No, totally weird. Perhaps she likes that look or can't afford better clothes. I wear what I like rather than what is fashionable! It's the school run not a fashion show

anniehm · 29/03/2019 16:26

(Sitting in a fleece and running leggings feeling a little self conscious)

Let's be honest, if you've ever sat outside a cafe and watched the world go you will think all manner of unpleasant thoughts about what people are wearing or what they look like as well as having nice thoughts and admiring others and wishing you had hair like that or your legs were as long as hers or that blokes a bit of alright etc.

It's human nature sometimes to have a boggle at other people sometimes.

Wishing to change them though is a bit off though unless you are a hairdresser or stylist etc then I can understand in your professional capacity you might want to get your hands on someone.

You just reminded me of when I used to direct the vents from the car air conditioner towards my wet hair, when driving in to do a 12hr night shift.

I used to do this every day too.

Astella22 · 29/03/2019 16:29

I think your post says allot about the type of person you are.

Nope. People watching is my favourite pastime, but I never think unpleasant thoughts. I always just imagine who they are and where they are going.

@caffeineplease - many years ago - 5 to 10 ish, an MNer linked to some fancy designery scarves that TKMaxx were flagging really cheap. This introduced the brand to many happy MNers, who caused a run on TKM. The leopard print was the most popular. Around the sane time, an MNer went to view a house, and such a scarf was hanging up in the hallway. The viewer was convinced that the vendor was dropping hints about being on here, but the scarf sealed the deal as it were. Thus started at whole other chat about silent indicators of being an MNer.

Me too. I don't ever think about their clothes or even their appearance very much. Just sort of imagine stories about who.they are and who is with them and what sort of conversation they are having, or where they are going or have come from etc.

I do take in their overall appearance but only in the context of making up a character for them. I never think about how they might look better if they changed their clothes/ hair /weight/ shape etc

Tubeworker · 29/03/2019 16:47

Did anyone else read the title of the thread as: Do you ever look at someone and think I really want to run them over?

I was excited for a completely different thread...

pelirocco123 · 29/03/2019 16:51

Actually Op I am itching to give your spellings a makeover

cannycat20 · 29/03/2019 16:53

Is it bad that this whole thread is making me think of the relationship between Glinda and Elphaba in Wicked?? I now have "Popular" running through my head like an evil earworm...

I remember many years ago the primary school mine went to had several children whose fathers played for our local team ( the team at the time actually spent 1 season in the premier league ) All but 2 of the footballers wives used to turn up in the morning as if they came from a fashion shoot , most of us were delighted if we had managed to brush our hair

Langrish · 29/03/2019 17:07

Palominoo

Luckily, Palominoo, I’m middle aged so you wouldn’t notice me (ravishing though I am 😬)

Lweji · 29/03/2019 17:22

OP, please describe your usual school run outfit

I bet it includes smart trainers, possibly with heels (or heals) and, the clincher, a pretty top. Grin

Lweji · 29/03/2019 17:24

being thin is wasted on some women

GrinGrinGrin

Yeah, because all my life's ambitions were to be a pin up.

formerbabe · 29/03/2019 17:49

I only have two looks....

Waynetta slob
Or
1980s page three girl/barmaid

I can't find any middle ground. Hence I feel massively judged whatever look I go for!

NewAndImprovedNorks · 29/03/2019 21:27

Another one sporting ‘dog walking chic’ here.

Raggy old sweatshirt, anorak full of leads and poo bags, muddy jeans.

BUT
If the occasion demands, I can change m appearance, wear clothes that don’t have stains, heels and makeup.
It is all window dressing and appropriate to the occasion.

What is inside the package is the only thing that actually matters

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/03/2019 22:03

No what other people wear or whether or not they brush their hair is the least of my freakin worries

LaLaLamp · 30/03/2019 06:03

Maybe the lady comes from the 'I don't give a fuck' school like the rest of us. I'm not exactly a fashion follower and my style tends to be very casual. I certainly don't go out wondering what people will think of me. Chances are if I nip out for a bottle of flash or something, wearing my cleaning clothes, I'll bump into someone I know, and if semi-smart, never see anyone.
I do sometimes imagine what someone would look like in different clothes, say if they are frumpy (in my view) school ma'am types, but we are all individual and if we looked the same, what a boring place it would be. A woman walked into my office yesterday though, and I did think to myself that she would look nicer if she had her eyebrows done. Is there a judgy-pants emoticon? Grin

DonaldTwain · 30/03/2019 06:09

You don’t have enough going on in your life OP. Get a hobby, read a book, do something to divert your brain from these bizarre fixations

Aridane · 30/03/2019 06:40

It's funny, I went to a social thing the other day and met a new woman who was probably in her late 50's. She was a real stereotypical glamour puss.

As soon as I walked in the room I noticed her. She stood out like a sore thumb against the rest of us, some of whom are quite well groomed but not in any try-hard way, and some of whom are a bit more 'homely' looking, to put it politely.

This woman had the lot; lip fillers, cheek fillers, botox, long bleached blonde straightened long hair, long fake nails in a lurid colour, a boob job, eyelash extensions, full make up and quite 'young' clothes. She was a very attractive woman but it was all a bit much and she looked a bit like a caricature. I couldn't decide whether she looked great, or faintly ridiculous.

I think it was proof that while we all could do with taking better care of our appearance, there is a great deal of value in the Less is More approach, even (or especially) when you are no longer a young woman.

Yep - this certainly gives the OP a run for her (judgmental) money.

And why can’t “this woman” go hell for leather with fillers, extensions etc

MaisondeChats · 30/03/2019 07:39

I fear I am the person many people want to make over! Often in fleece (hate being cold but do feel the cold often) and unruly hair. Doesn't help that my mum is always well put together for any occasion (never has a sweat pant day!) and I look like a sack of spuds next to her.
