Drama in the local Facebook group.

A hairdresser opened up a salon in our village and spammed posted frequently in the village Facebook page about it.

The one and only Admin got annoyed and requested she stop. She kicked off, others joined the fray, pointing out that her posts were better than the ones about dog poo.

The admin archived the group in retaliation. He's just opened it up and announced he's quitting as admin.

So that's our scandal. Any going on in yours? It's better than Coronation Street.

Oh you all must live near me!

The virtual curtain twitching gets right on my wick!

Especially the police/helicopter/ambo watchers - "mums, I've just seen 5 ambulances all racing through the high street towards the church, does anyone know what's going on?"
Gah! Fuck off you mawkish bint!

A lot of people seem to smash their phone screens where I live too which must interfere with the search function Smile

Hoppinggreen · 27/03/2019 10:24

Someone found a purse but didn’t hand it in
Dog poo
Charity event that clearly nobody wants to go to
Stray dog
Petition about something
Someone trying car door handles late at night
Litter
BUT there was (very unusually but tragically) a murder a few days ago. Apparently he was a “scumbag drug dealer” but according to someone else “a lovely family man” so that kicked off a bit
Usually pretty dull though

PotterHead1985 · 27/03/2019 11:14

"A lovely family man" they are always called that when they are dead even if they were scum of the earth! Can't be saying nasty things about the dead now Grin

I'd say the curtain twitchers round here and great fun two weeks ago when I was the one carted off in the ambo!! BlushHmm

Simonfromharlow · 27/03/2019 11:28

I got banned from the two groups our town had as I kept posting goody (rational) replies to people's posts and they all complained I was goading them! Haha! My sister keeps me updated with all the hilarious goings on.

Simonfromharlow · 27/03/2019 11:28

Goady not goody

NerrSnerr · 27/03/2019 11:37

Ours is up in arms as the council is trying to sell some land for housing and they're already building loads around the village.

Some construction workers were rude to a lady on the school run.

Occasionally someone posts pictures of youths behaving antisocially and their parents kick off that their little angel's picture has been posted all over social media ignoring that they've been seen throwing stones at cars and harassing people

WhatthehellisplanB · 27/03/2019 11:45

Ah, I have more.
Our house caught fire last year-luckily our neighbour spotted it and called fire brigade. Not before it hit the local Fb group though! And it made it as someone's snapchat story! Who the fuck does that?
I had it removed from fb group as not relevant and so began the 'drive-bys'. We live in a cul-de-sac so that was amusing.

Our local rag has a fb page-last year they posted a story of the syrian reugees in our area looking for somewhere to worship. So began the most disgusting, racist, anti-muslim post it has ever been my displeasure to read. Police were involved, charges brought. Really brought home the narrow-mindedness of the small town I live in.

Ursaminor · 27/03/2019 12:09

We're quite civilised (or have a very strict admin - all posts have to be approved before they go live). Lately have had:
upcoming coffee mornings, charity concerts, the odd bit of flytipping on the shore, and then, unusually, thanks to the council for being so quick in picking up the flytipping. Always loads of old photos and nostalgic posts about the past. As I said - civilised. All kicks off in the summer though, when the the weather is good enough for the teens to get out and about.

Baconcob · 27/03/2019 12:50

Cats. All cats seen in gardens must be lost. Not just wandering around as cats do.

chocolatelog · 27/03/2019 12:55

I'm banned from mine and they won't let me back on 😔

Verynice · 27/03/2019 13:07

Knife crime, parking, youth gangs, stuff that's found, people who've had stuff stolen. One poor girl (I really felt sorry for her), posted a pic of a rather forlorn looking pink woolen glove - with a note - that it's at Bus-Stop # X on Y Road. She got a right slagging.

Cyclists. They are loathed here as the council are bringing in a lot of cycle lanes - a concept that appears to be known locally as 'mini Holland'.

Trees being cut down.
Traffic.
Our MP is frequently tagged in various rants
A lot of stuff about Muslims (high Muslim population here) and discrimination against them.
Giving out about the lack of police.
Photos of police cars/ambulances - Anyone know what's going on here? x at least once a day.
A new roundabout configuration which is confusing everyone and you now can't turn right onto some roads etc. which has everyone up in arms.

Just ranting really Grin

Verynice · 27/03/2019 13:07

@chocolatelog - Do spill! I'm banned too!

Verynice · 27/03/2019 13:09

I'm banned for getting in an argument with the admin about some perceived racism he saw (wasn't racism).

KindergartenKop · 27/03/2019 13:15

Yesterday we had a dog (fox???) stuck on a railway bridge and a load of idiots planning on trespassing on the electrified rails to rescue the pup. I'm not sure how it panned out in the end.

TuckMyWin · 27/03/2019 13:16

I've moved now but the one where I used to live was primarily devoted to travellers, cats, and questions about what the police helicopter was there for. We did have one saga that would have been funny if it hadn't been so depressing: a local Muslim group, who already owned an ex office building, and were already holding meetings there, applied for planning permission to add a porch, and for change of use to a place of worship. A local 'concerned residents' group organised a petition against it and encouraged everyone to write in and object to the planning permission. I spent an entertaining (if depressing) evening reading the comments - apparently the building would not be in keeping with the area (it already existed, and they were adding a porch), school children would be im danger due to the increased amount of traffic during times of worship (which were all well outside of school pickup/drop off times), and why would there be any need for another mosque, when there was one already on the other side of the town (the application stated that this was for a different branch of Islam, for which there was no local place of worship. There were at least three churches of different branches of Christianity within a few roads of the proposed 'mosque'). There was much hysteria about domes. The planning application passed, and to date, as far as I know, no children have been run over as a consequence. There are also no domes.

Waytooearly · 27/03/2019 13:25

On our little town's Facebook page:

People are leaving flowers at our tiny local mosque.

A local guy walks about doing his errands in full Roman gladiator armour (with fleece underneath when weather is chilly). One person took a sneaky photo and posted with a derisory comment. Dozens have leapt to man's defence, saying 'Steve' is a nice bloke and why shouldn't he dress how he likes?

chocolatelog · 27/03/2019 13:34

@Verynice I was sticking up for some travellers that had moved on to a waist bit of land.

Basically someone's bike was stolen from their garden, loads of people piled on accusing these new travellers (we get a few move on and off throughout the year) of taking it. Saying "it's got to be them" I didn't take any notice then the next day I was walking to my local paper shop and some crack head that lives a few streets down from me was outside the shop (off he's tits) trying to sell a bike to some other man. When I looked closer it was the bike from the page. I posted on the page that I had just seen the bike and so so had it, and that people shouldn't just make assumptions up because there's travellers in the area when in fact is was one of their own. Admin disagrees with me and told me I was banned and not aloud back on 🤷🏻‍♀️ fuck em

MadameButterface · 27/03/2019 13:37

dog turds
whose cat is this?
what bin goes out tomorrow?
is anyone getting rid of a travel cot/stair gate/high chair/garden trellis/pallets
all this random shit is outside my house, please help yourselves
burglaries
need a plumber/plasterer/painter and decorator
I've just seen a fox/badger/owl/bat

chocolatelog · 27/03/2019 13:39

Mind you from reading this thread it looks like I'm not missing much anyway.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 27/03/2019 13:44

Its nearly tourist season so ours will kick off then nicely, parking, rude tourists etc although this week we had a party in the big holiday rental, which they shouldn't have got planning permission for, and they are not allowed to have noisy parties

ShirleyPhallus · 27/03/2019 13:52

Someone recently posted “Saw this morning a dead rat in Asda car park. A crow was eating it!”

Hard hitting local news

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 27/03/2019 14:03

My local "Crimewatch" group now seems to be the go to place for posting local news, gossip and debate as well as crime.

Currently after the news about Wales introducing the smacking ban there is a debate about smacking children asking if it will lead to more "out of control children" it is filled with plenty of awful "never did me any harm" and "spare the rod spoil the child" type posts ranting about how today all children are feral undisciplined hooligans. There are some pretty disgusting views on it so I switched the notifications off on that one.

Reports of "foreigners" wearing balaclavas and trying peoples car doors.

Shocking post on how a recently deceased but not yet buried person had his house burgled and lots of his possessions taken .

Frequent posts about our local councillors and their failings or accusations of incompetence.

Lots of posts about car thefts which often descend into some kind of call to arms with vigilantism encouraged to deal with the hooded youths responsible.

Why is the helicopter hovering over xxx type posts

It snowed last month and the bins were not collected so there was a back log, then we had a few days of strong winds. The page was filled with numerous outraged posts and photos showing rubbish blowing about. When some posters suggested that others should "get a grip" it got quite lively.

Duckee · 27/03/2019 14:35

My local fb Page is constant drama. The same 10 people seem to post constantly about anything that happens to pop into their heads, the admin are constantly having arguments with other posters and deleting comments left, right and centre, and then there are long conversations about who said what, when they said it and who else witnessed it. Then there are the constant calls for the admin to stand down due to their behaviour and the censoring of comments. Then a new page with almost exactly the same name as the previous one starts up claiming to not censor comments. Within a few weeks the admin start deleting comments and it all kicks off again. It's constant bickering between people who appear not to be able to string a sentence together as well as huge numbers of posts about the local travelling community who are blamed for every wrong deed in the town.

I stayed on the page for a few months for the entertainment value but left a few days ago because I am sick to the back teeth of the trivial and childish arguments between these adults taking over my Facebook feed.

PotterHead1985 · 27/03/2019 14:38

Currently talk about a random chap appearing round the back of houses - without knocking in - and asking to cut the hedge. Presumption he was casing the joint and came up with the excuse when he found the homeowner in their garden.

IggyAce · 27/03/2019 14:47

Lately on ours there is:

Pictures of cars blocking paths.

Youths throwing stones at passing cars or causing trouble in the local park.

Currently also been plagued by youths on off road bikes and mopeds driving around with no lights or helmets making a load of noise.
