Drama in the local Facebook group.

A hairdresser opened up a salon in our village and spammed posted frequently in the village Facebook page about it.

The one and only Admin got annoyed and requested she stop. She kicked off, others joined the fray, pointing out that her posts were better than the ones about dog poo.

The admin archived the group in retaliation. He's just opened it up and announced he's quitting as admin.

So that's our scandal. Any going on in yours? It's better than Coronation Street.

OP posts:

Ha, ours is quite tame except for a recent post from the organiser of the local am dram group who is a bit odd. She had put up a banner advertising her next show which was taken down. Accusations of theaft etc.
Turned out shed just attached it to some dudes fence without permission and he’d cut it down (as was within his rights) and rolled it up on the floor by the hedge, if she’d cared to look.
That’s about as exciting as it gets

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 27/03/2019 07:52

@LunchBoxPolice I shouldn't laugh because the poor lady is devastated and just wants the body back with her for formal identification- it's been a week- but I do hope so!

SileneOliveira · 27/03/2019 07:55

Mainly lost keys and bank cards. At least one a day. Lots of careless people round this way.

austenozzy · 27/03/2019 07:56

Ours is a naice village, so we have posts about a local charity having won a huge grant, the village film club showing bohemian rhapsody, the restaurant being up for an award, advance notice of temp lights on a road and a couple of random ‘can someone walk our dog while I’m in for an op’ type things. All very civil round these parts!

Shookethtothecore · 27/03/2019 07:59

Drama as someone has found out a convicted sex offender lives in the area. Vigilante behaviour encouraged by a few and the site delating the posts. Arguments as to why the posts shouldn’t be deleted. Different for the usual moaning about teenagers and parking I guess

Shookethtothecore · 27/03/2019 08:00

My fave ever post tho was about a lady who’s cat was fighting. “If your cat is mean can you not keep it in” honestly she was deadly serious about only nice animals being let out

zoellafortitude · 27/03/2019 08:01

Buses always breaking down - should be on the scrapheap.
The number of "incomers" to the area and how they wish they could stop it and get back to the good old days.
Parking and blocking people's driveways.

PH03b3 · 27/03/2019 08:13

Everybody seems to be politicians and economists in mine they seem to know no deal is the best way!? Normally they've got filters of flowers on there heads etc too

PandaMa · 27/03/2019 08:14

Teenagers drinking and hanging around the bike track, stealing bins, breaking bottles and hurling abuse at train ticket inspectors. But it's alright because we were apparently all young once and did that Hmm

PH03b3 · 27/03/2019 08:15

Oh also people wanting to know if anybody is gifting any home bits as they've moved into a flat with nothing and are skint i.e one look at my profile you'll see my weekend in town this weekend! And you must deliver and do you have photos i only want certain colour freebies

Milicentbystander72 · 27/03/2019 08:17

Someone asking for any allergy clinics locally.

Huge spat between a mum who swears her dds eczema was cured by homeopathy and a scientist who says homeopathy is proven not to work and warning people against wasting their money.

It's very ugly

Wherearemyminions · 27/03/2019 08:20

Our local one had this stunner recently:

Not sure if it concerns anybody but thought I’d post it just in case, as I was driving into the village a foreign man in a merc van with no plates front or back was driving slow looking into peoples drive ways

I am very impressed by this persons powers - to be able to ascertain that the man was foreign just by looking at him! Poor bugger was probably just trying to see house numbers to get parcels delivered.

HotpotLawyer · 27/03/2019 08:20

“Half a bag of carrott ‘s (sic) going free as we are going away”
Once there was even an opened sliced loaf.

BitchQueen90 · 27/03/2019 08:22

Mostly people moaning about our local MPs. We are smack bang in the middle of HS2 land and everyone has an opinion on it.

There's a fair bit of crime around here so plenty of moaning about the police "not doing anything" and the "scumbags" committing the crimes.

Also, sadly, there have been a lot of anonymous posts recently from people suffering MH issues and wanting to offload their problems anonymously. Sad

HotpotLawyer · 27/03/2019 08:27

Oh, and heaps of spying on people who don’t live in the local roads but park for work or shopping. (Surrounding areas have CPZ).

“The silver focus that was outside no 130 is outside ours this week”. “The man in blue Skoda Octavia gets a Brompton out of his boot and rides to the station”
“The green mini belongs to someone in the neighbouring CPZ area. I have reported it as abandoned but the police say it is taxed and there is nothing they can do” followed by many angry emojis.

HarrySnotter · 27/03/2019 08:27

Ours is normally ok. Lots of posting about summer events in the playing field/kids events/dog shows.

However there are two rival beauty therapists who have sheds cabins in their back gardens who frequently post veiled digs at each other, while pretending to support the other. That's always quite entertaining. Oh and there was a terrible rumpus last year when someone was accused of winning the courgette growing class at the fete by nefarious means. That went on for quite some time.

sugarbum · 27/03/2019 08:34

Dog Poo
The motorhome parked on the main street (not illegally, but it causes a bottleneck)
Woman in mustard coat picking daffodils. This discussion resulted in a poll as to whether it was acceptable to pick the daffs. General concensus: no, go buy them from the co-op
Bike thieves / stolen bikes
Nice pics of our local river
Bins
Traffic issues
Branch on path. Can council remove it.

caughtinanet · 27/03/2019 08:34

I wish the admin of mine would stop the local business owners who spam the group, constantly seeing the same ones really annoys me, makes me not want to use them

lololove · 27/03/2019 08:35

A couple of ours have teams that go to crimes /fires/accidents etc and take videos and pictures and stream it on their sites like they're journalists. One has even made an offshoot website to run alongside it.

I understand why on certain occasions but it does make me uncomfortable. For example, one case was a poor man who has died getting hit by a car over the weekend... Why would it need to be live streamed and reported on by them? Imagine finding out its a relative via seeing something on fbook?

I also hate all the "there was an ambulance outside xyz. Whats going on?" mind your own business!

Other than that there's the usual crimes, dog poo, a n Oliver twist group headed by a 14 year old female fagin, how crap the council is, if the binmen are ever going to come round etc.

JuniorAsparagus · 27/03/2019 08:36

A woman complaining that four men are mending a hole outside her house, but only two of them are doing any work (complete with pictures). Lots of comments explaining the roles of the four men, and why they aren't all working at once. She isn't convinced.
A few days ago the same person started a thread about how badly designed the Asda car park is. Lots of discussion on that one.
Bit boring really.

Bartlebysleftshoe · 27/03/2019 08:36

Someone asking about any dentists still taking NHS patients. Requests for food bank donations. Lost phone & charger.

Allegations that the corner shop owner is buying stock from Asda, & reselling at profit. And a domestic dispute alleging a woman is pregnant with another man's child, (not her partner.) Lots of outrage rightly that this hasn't been deleted.

The person running it seems to get perverse pleasure from some of the comments, and won't delete them.

It's a funny old place tbh, amusing & and saddening in equal measure.

ReadingInReading · 27/03/2019 08:38

A cat has gone missing.

I am very sheltered.

labazsisgoingmad · 27/03/2019 08:40

9 Romanian gypsies moving into a one bedroomed social housing flat
lots of dog pooh by the school
missing cat
in house arguing by local Councillors

Squickety · 27/03/2019 08:42

Missing / wrongly delivered post
Bad parking / driving / traffic
Missing / found bins / recycling boxes, especially when it's been windy
Recommendations for plumbers/ takeaways etc
Complaints about BT
Occasional missing cat / dog
Dog poop
Help with domestic mishaps (we're on a brand new estate so someone else usually has experience of the specific boiler type having a flashing light etc)

It does occasionally get a bit argumentative and amusing but may favourites are Linda and Margaret with their really obvious answers to everything. If someone posts 'Really struggling to find some decent turf for the garden, looked everywhere local, any suggestions please?' Linda will post 'try Homebase'. Which is 2 mins down the road and will obviously habe been tried already!

PositiveDiscipline · 27/03/2019 08:44

I live somewhere quite rural and our local FB pages are both hilarious and alarming at the same time. I do get some great local tips from them though.

Local shops will readily upload a photo of someone they think has shoplifted. Once a photo was uploaded of a young girl wearing a beanie and loads of people jumped on FB to have a massive racist rant having mistaken the beanie for a headscarf. I was pretty shocked that people put down in black and white how stupid and ignorant they are.

We have our own crime site where people upload things that have happened to them or around town. There are always people uploading things like "white man, in his 50's, looking really shifty, walked down our road and looked at me strangely. Wearing a high vis jacket with JB & Sons Plant Hire" and they will upload a pic of him and his van. Honestly, they do this. If you are not white or have a foreign accent they will literally tell everyone in the town to go inside and barricade themselves in. Once my gardener had his picture and van uploaded onto the local FB page in a similar way and he had to jump through hoops to get it taken off. He told me that he was trimming a hedge and just because he didn't engage with someone they took him for clearly being a criminal.

Its funny but also deeply disturbing at the same time that people are this ignorant and lacking in intelligence.
