Normally a week or so beforehand. We just do some pussy willow in a vase with eggs hung on and a few bunny models made by the dc over the years.

LateEaster · 24/03/2019 10:45

We just do , little Easter tree ( twigs sprayed white in case) with cute Easter stuff hanging from them.
Some large egg paper things we hang, lots of little chick and bunny ornament s ( tk max has tons of gorgeous Easter stuff?) Some Easter themed bunting.

I mark it as an end of winter. Celebration of light, summer , life, spring....hope.

Turning point in seasons....

PhilODox · 24/03/2019 10:45

babdoc summarises it perfectly.
The celebration is for Easter Sunday only.
Yes Germany, Sweden etc do have Easter trees- bringing nature into the house is v scandi., Most celebrations are like this for them. They put coloured feathers on the branches in Sweden, little wooden ornaments in Germany.

Easter is a time of sorrow, not pastel bunnies.

LateEaster · 24/03/2019 10:47

The Easter bunny also brings small gift. Like new book or something like that.

LateEaster · 24/03/2019 10:48

Easter is a time of hope.... life going on... cycles... seasons...end of winter.... little chicks and lambs... and thing's moving on.

For us anyway!!

BluebadgenPIP · 24/03/2019 10:49

Easter decs are a thing?

Cocolepew · 24/03/2019 10:49

Grin Phillipe that's amazing.

insancerre · 24/03/2019 10:54

I’m now imaging you’ve all got twig trees with little Jesus on a bike ornaments

PhillipeFellope · 24/03/2019 11:01

I could not wish that was a thing available to me more insancerre Grin wondering if I could crochet some in time Grin cause nothing says "He is risen indeed!" than our Lord and saviour wooly Jesus Christ astride a pipe cleaner motorbike.

insancerre · 24/03/2019 11:03

Phillippe
I think they would sell like hot cross buns on Facebook

AmIthatbloodycold · 24/03/2019 11:10

Bluelonerose. Brilliant post and it appears to have flown under the radar for most.

Giant painted bunnies carrying eggs have been put up in our town (touristy rural Germany). Not joking.

I quite like seeing the colourful plastic eggs on trees and bushes in people's front gardens. We don't decorate, though.

Lardlizard · 24/03/2019 11:34

Haha some people on here should win an award for being miserable ! It seems to have come over from Northern Europe, but you’d think most people on here would know that, as they claim to be so European Hmm

You guys make me chuckle sometimes
Esp the yuk roast lamb !

Backseatonthebus · 24/03/2019 11:40

I'd say it's not about being miserable, it's about not being sucked in to another consumerfest. As for it 'coming over from Northern Europe', we are in Northern Europe so I don't quite understand that.

BluebadgenPIP · 24/03/2019 11:50

I’m atheist. Why would I put up Easter decs?

Not miserable, just don’t believe in the festival. (I also don’t put up any kind of religious Christmas decorations before anyone asks)

Ellenborough · 24/03/2019 11:50

What is an Easter deck?

This thread title has so much potential to cause offence on multiple levels.

The idea that we decorate our houses for Easter.

The idea that the decorations that we don't have should possibly go up well in advance.

Annoying, twee abbreviations.

Misspelling of the annoying, twee abbreviation.

BluebadgenPIP · 24/03/2019 11:51

It’s assuming a Christian perspective. That’s kind of narrow minded. 🤷‍♀️

trollopolis · 24/03/2019 12:19

On Easter Sunday itself.

Tacky to be decorated on Good Friday

AmIthatbloodycold · 24/03/2019 12:30

I'm confused OP. who is claiming to be "so European"

it's a fact for me, not a claim Hmm

And I'm not miserable. Far from it, in fact I'm laughing now at this thread. Easter decks(sic). What a load of old shite

SilverySurfer · 24/03/2019 12:54

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha holy cow! Shock

Easter, yet another Pagan festival nicked by the christians.

isseywithcats · 24/03/2019 13:05

just going to the supermarket and picking up easter eggs for my grandchildren is enough effort for me

TheFirstOHN · 24/03/2019 13:46

nothing says "He is risen indeed!" than our Lord and saviour wooly Jesus Christ astride a pipe cleaner motorbike.

Loyaultemelie · 24/03/2019 14:50

I do an egg hunt on the Saturday and we usually stick up some drawings of bunnies and chicks and a few of those fuzzy yellow chicks but they could go out anytime usually when school/nursery start sending the art home. Then the Easter bunny leaves a hunt for non chocolate things to keep them occupied Sunday morning. Normally we use Easter weekend for lots of days out rather than a big meal so not much point in loads of decorations

Historydweeb · 24/03/2019 14:55

Is this an American thing? Confused

Southwest12 · 24/03/2019 14:57

I have an Easter tree, but only because we lived in Germany when I was younger and they do Easter Trees. But not ready made shite, you’re supposed to go and get some twigs from the woods. I’ve had the same twigs for about 7 years now, and they even survived moving 200 miles.

When do you put your Easter decks up ?
