I do a themed center piece for the kitchen table, only fri- Easter Sunday.

My kids wake up to cream eggs in holders on the table plus their big egg is on their chair.

My American relation gets her kids Easter bikes or scooters plus clothes, big teddies, eggs etc

I feel very restrained with my few bits!

Lobsterquadrille2 · 24/03/2019 15:09

@Southwest12 my father was German and every Easter my mother has a tree exactly like yours. I can't say I've ever bothered. We had stories about the Easter hare coming in the night and hiding eggs in the garden too. I just always assumed it was a German tradition, one that I'm afraid I haven't felt the need to continue.

Mammajay · 24/03/2019 15:13

Never heard of it. In the UK nature does it with bluebells, daffodils and apple blossom.

Felipa · 24/03/2019 15:15

I love the twiggy trees with Easter eggs so have one of those on the table as well as lovely tulips in a yellow vase.

For our family we dont celebrate it as a religious festival so don't wait until Easter Sunday to put them out. I love the whole season of Spring and new life and love to celebrate that with my family. And whats not to love about a weekend of chocolate?

RightOnTheEdge · 24/03/2019 15:17

There are a lot of mean comments on here. I have never done Easter decorations either but why be so rude to the OP?

Southwest12 your Easter twigs look lovely.
Your roast lamb dinner sounds delicious OP.

I have seen threads on here where people buy their dc piles of presents at Easter. I think some people have started to treat it like a second Christmas.

Theunreasonableone · 24/03/2019 15:19

Erm not at all - like the majority of the population Confused Do you work for Hallmark?

Abra1de · 24/03/2019 15:20

Putting them up this early in Lent would be weird.

00100001 · 24/03/2019 15:34

As with most PPs, no decorations.
But I don't think your decorations are what most people are imagining. Yours sound Germanic/pagan in tradition, as if welcoming/celebrating new life and Spring.

I think people were imagining you with a Christmas style tree, garlands, pastel coloured tinsel and gifts.

You'll notice Easter is slowly getting more and more commercialised her in the UK, with shops selling the aforementioned items, and there are tendancies towards gift giving as well.... HmmConfused

Social media will amplify this, with people sharing their images and gift presents and piles of chocolate eggs.

Gone are the days a child got one Easter eggand that was it....

Give it ten years and it will be a "mini Christmas"....

Peridot1 · 24/03/2019 15:41

I think we have this thread on here every year.

I do something very similar to that in SouthWest’s pic. Used to live in Eastern Europe where it is a big thing.

I notice lots of Easter themed decorations in the shops here in the uk every year and can’t understand all the shock and horror at th OPs question. Has nobody else spotted them?

sewingismyhobby · 24/03/2019 17:29

It's something I've started to do as I've got older.
I like to change accessories roughly along as the seasons change rather than full scale redecoration.
After Christmas, I have Winter colours and prints on a few household accessories, cushions, tablecloth, tea towels etc.
I put a few bits out for Paddy's day.
I'm now in the process of putting up my Spring/Easter decorations now that we've got some warmer sunny weather and it feels more Spring-like.
I made some new spring coloured bunting (yellows and blues mostly) that I'll hang in the sunroom and some more in the dining room. New cushion covers and new quilted tablemats/mugrugs.
Like Christmas, you can add a few new bits each year and charity shop the bits you're bored with.

I keep a few hens so I have a few chicken shaped bits that people have made or bought me over the years that I can put out over Easter. (If you have pet cats, presumably some people buy you cute cat shaped stuff?)

It's not A THING and I'm not religious and don't believe in God or Jesus but just like to update my surroundings on a seasonal basis.

Babdoc · 24/03/2019 21:07

Ilovemypantry, sorry for the delay answering your query, I’ve been out all day.
Christians regard God, Christ and the Holy Spirit as a trinity, i.e. three parts of a whole being.
Christ is God incarnate, the Word made flesh. A mere human would not have had the powers of Christ to heal sickness, raise the dead, control the winds, and transmute water into wine. Therefore it makes sense to refer to God’s sacrifice of part of Himself on Good Friday.
Different sects of Christianity have varied views on the divinity/humanity of Christ, and the relationship of Christ to God, of course.

EnidButton · 24/03/2019 21:33

Something about this thread is really tickling me. Some of the replies are so Mumsnet. Grin

Last year for the first time, I put a wreath up and dangled some coloured eggs and rabbits off sticks (sticks and pebbly shit alert 🚨) of pussy willow. More of a pagan celebration of Spring like Binary said. Usually Easter is a none thing in our house apart from chocolate so it made it more of an event. I liked it, I'll be doing it again.

EnidButton · 24/03/2019 21:35

Forgot to answer the actually question. 🙄 Think I did that the day before Good Friday.

LateEaster · 24/03/2019 21:50

I forgot to answer it too.
I'll do it when DC break up from school next week.

I really enjoy it. My DC love it.

I don't know why so many pride themselves on being plain!!

FermatsTheorem · 24/03/2019 21:54

@Ilovemypantry - I think babdoc missed your question.

It's complicated and weird (I am not religious, but used to be). The "doctrine of the Trinity" is that Jesus, God the Father and the Holy Ghost are all one God, but somehow separate in terms of their significance - hence the bit in the creed about Jesus "of one being with the father, begotten, not made". So God the Father sent his son, who was also him, to be born on earth and suffer for the sins of mankind, then offer himself up as a sacrifice for the sins of the world - and it is not just God's son, but God himself because they're somehow one and the same.

My vicar used to joke that Trinity Sunday was always a good day to get a visiting preacher in so they could try to explain it to the congregation, because he certainly didn't want to have to Grin.

MoreSlidingDoors · 24/03/2019 21:55

Our winter solstice decorations are still up. Smile

CherryPavlova · 24/03/2019 21:57

I do nice flowers on Easter Sunday for a family and friends lunch.

It would be wrong for people celebrating Easter to put up anything celebratory during the tridium which is a very solemn period after Good Friday. Anything fun or cheerful misses the whole point of Good Friday.
Decorating before Easter Sunday is like stockings being given in November. Just wrong.

Badtasteflump · 24/03/2019 22:34

I’m not religious at all but I love Easter. I have some bunny bunting I put up (£1 from a charity shop so all good..) and I love daffodils so have a couple of big jugs of them on display. Nothing major, just brightens things up a bit.

We do a big Easter dinner on the Sunday, then spend the rest of the weekend watching films and eating chocolate. What’s not to like? It’s a bit like Christmas without the hassle & expense.

If other people want to go a bit overboard, doesn’t bother me one bit.

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 24/03/2019 22:56

Some of the replies on here are harsh!

I used to have an Easter tree but it somehow got lost. It was just willow branches in a vase with some ceramic colourful eggs hanging.
I did see an egg wreath for the door last week and was very tempted.

Other than that I tend to just have daffodils everywhere as I love them.

Ilovemypantry · 24/03/2019 22:59

FermatsTheorem
I did actually get a reply from babdoc. She said virtually the same as you about the Trinity.

It’s all too complicated for me, hence I’m not religious!

Thank you for trying to explain though.

LateEaster · 24/03/2019 23:00

Cherry that's fine if you want to be solemn but how can you say it's wrong to be cheerful through Easter! People mark change of seasons how they want and similarly hi jack festivals how they want just like Christians did

Ilovemypantry · 24/03/2019 23:01

babdoc
Thank you for taking the time to explain, I appreciate that.

Nanalisa60 · 24/03/2019 23:06

I don’t!!

Parker231 · 24/03/2019 23:07

I love Easter - a long weekend off work so chance for a couple of lie ins. For our family it’s very similar to Christmas. DT’s home from Uni so chance to go out for nice meals. Usually some good wine and then home for too much chocolate.

SurgeHopper · 24/03/2019 23:10

Lard lizard , I thought you'd defected?
