I don’t

I'm Pagan; and despite the fact that I can tell you about how Yule Logs became Christmas Trees or what Jack O'Lanterns were originally for, I've never done Easter decorations - not even Eostre ones.
Eostre is an ancient spring festival (IMO, regardless of the academic debate on this one) and there are various rituals that I have known about (jumping thru fire hoops, dancing, and others which may raise a few blushes), but never heard of specific decorations for it.

On a related note, should a certain J Christ every make his long-awaited return, I wonder what he'd make of the proliferation of symbols depicting his tortuous death. Bit of a reminder? Maybe he'd feel we were taunting him?

Definitely do Easter decorations and will put them out at the beginning of the school holidays. The LO's love them and it feels like spring has sprung Smile

Our decorations consist of an Easter tree, wreath, some wooden spring themed declarations and a couple of Easter garlands for the fireplace and in the hallway. I'm looking forward to putting them out.

I really can't believe that some people have never seen an Easter decoration.

I live in the US (Midwest), and it's definitely not a thing here. In fact, we don't even get Good Friday or Easter Monday off school.

Doubletrouble99 · 26/03/2019 22:11

If I had young children or grandchildren I may buy a couple of things from Home Bargains as they do have quite a few inexpensive cute things. But I don't and I won't be buying anything apart from some Easter eggs.

MissKenton · 26/03/2019 22:15

Yikes I didn’t know this was a thing. Furiously types in Easter decs into Pinterest to find some inspiration

MatthewBramble · 26/03/2019 23:37

Never heard of Easter decorations and never going to put them up.

Portulaca · 27/03/2019 08:23

Has anyone else spotted the John Lewis ad at the bottom of this thread? Grin

We don't celebrate with bought decorations but the DC have done some celebrate Spring crafts with pictures of daffodils, and stuff. We will have Easter eggs too.

I think it's a nice thing to celebrate the changing of the season, lifting of Winter cold and dark days with something cheerful. Maybe better linking to the season rather than the Christian Church?

Inspired by this thread, and trapped at home with a sick 4 year old...we have made and put up our Easter decks:

WitsEnding · 29/03/2019 09:17

If I was going to do Easter decorations it would be Easter Sunday, isn't the whole point that before then it's Lent so no festivities.? Fortunately I'm not religious.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 29/03/2019 09:27

Jesus doesn't mind - he said "they have polystyrene eggs in Poundland. Do what you have to do."

Shookethtothecore · 29/03/2019 09:31

Mine are up we did it yesterday. It would be April 1st normally but we are away this weekend and I was bored yesterday. I have Easter floral arrangements, and Easter tree and a wreath on the door. It’s more of a celebration of spring with tulips and daffodils and the like with pastel shade eggs etc. It looks pretty in the sun I love them. I’m a big decorator mind and have similar arrangements for every major celebration we celebrate and seasonal floral arrangements

MoreSlidingDoors · 29/03/2019 16:12

A pagan celebration then and nothing at all to do with Easter.

Shookethtothecore · 29/03/2019 17:30

I’m not religious I’m not sure (nor do I care) what pastel eggs and nice flowers represent but my home looks lovely and my kids get excited so it can’t hurt

havingtochangeusernameagain · 29/03/2019 18:38

We've got Easter decorations (bought in Austria) but we are not home most of the time at Easter so we don't bother putting them up anymore.

Skyejuly · 29/03/2019 18:39

We have them up for the spring equinox xx

Bossinger · 29/03/2019 18:40

WanderingAimlessly · 29/03/2019 18:44

FelixTitling · 29/03/2019 18:49

Rottencooking · 30/03/2019 05:50

Can't wait to get home and give the toilet a fresh Easter log.

Decormad38 · 30/03/2019 06:00

FFS Easter decs? I have a life!

boxlikeamarchhare · 30/03/2019 06:04

I too have some easter decs, probably a dozen, given to me by a Swedish friend some years ago Boogle. I hang them on some catkin type things in my snug.

Love it (but then I still have my Canterbury bells up along the tops of my kitchen units from Christmas).

QueenBeeNotMe · 30/03/2019 06:06

I have a life. No Easter “decs”.

Felipa · 30/03/2019 17:57

Always found the Stations of the Cross a bit gruesome though, along with the crown of thorns, whipping and the actual crucifixion.

Oh this brings back childhood memories. The Thursday and Friday before Easter terrified me having to sit through that. If I remember correctly we were at services both days and then a Mass on Easter Saturday that lasted for hours. We also had to go to confession which was grim.

Is it any wonder I hated Easter as a child.
Love it now though!!
