Give me your best conspiracy theory!

I've just finished watching Behind The Curve on Netflix - a documentary about the Flat Earth movement. I remain unconvinced but still good fun to watch.

My favourite conspiracy theory though is the Titanic/Olympic one which I'm inclined to believe 🙈 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMSTitanicalternative_theories

Any good ones out there?

Graphista Re the Falklands.

Thatcher was half way to giving them to Argentina before the 'conflict' (if you call it a war you need to pay war pensions).

Falkland Islanders were British Dependent Territories citizens, not British, that changed afterwards.

www.theguardian.com/uk/2005/jun/28/falklands.past

I do wonder how far into certain things Thatcher was at the time.

iklboo · 20/03/2019 07:44

I agree the Falklands timing is very suspect. He believed though that the whole thing had been planned - including which ships were sunk and who died - like some giant game of Risk.

'We'll let you sink the Sir Galahad if we can have The Belgrano' type bollocks.

Although, actually, to the extent that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Perle etc were all in cahoots it's a safe bet to say that they all were (or their ancestors) in WW2 too - responsible for the deaths of 60 million. A good book on this is Glen Yeadon's The Nazi Hydra in America. Most of us are screwed!!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/03/2019 09:53

Britney Murphy died due to the toxic mould in her house after years of hoarding her clothes. Her husband died of the same poisoning months later, then her mum got ill but was treated in time. Very sad but not a conspiracy.

Natalie Wood on the other hand, very suspicious.

I totally believe Jill Dando was killed by a hitman (doorstop, textbook hit).

As for the undated led, I overheard someone in Tescos saying their friend was going on it.

And i’ve been to Australia. Grin

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/03/2019 09:53

the undateables

Graphista · 20/03/2019 10:06

@sashh the whole thing stunk from the start!

"Natalie Wood on the other hand, very suspicious" oh yes deeply dodgy! I grew up watching hart to hart and loving Robert Wagner learning about this just a few years ago Shock and then flipping Michael weatherly who idolises him and has even played him turns out to be a misogynist creep too!!

ShatnersWig · 20/03/2019 10:22

Re: Natalie Wood. I'm open minded on that one. I think it is perfectly possible that it was a total accident but that it might have been murder.

Unfortunately what clouds the issue is the total implausibility of the captain of the boat who suddenly decided after 37 years of backing Wagner's story to come out saying he thinks RJ killed her. He ceased working for Wagner one year later. Keeping quiet while he's your boss? Maybe. Keeping quiet for another 36 years?

Don't get it, except for the fact that there is money in it for him now. He's teamed up with an author who had previously written a book on it and is now being paid for interviews and even hosts his own podcast about it!

His story has also changed in the last year or two as well. Apparently RJ held him hostage for that year by trapping him in his bedroom and having a driver escort him to work every day for that year so he was never left alone. RJ apparently got him a job at the studio while he was filming Hart to Hart (not sure why a studio would need a ship's captain) and RJ assigned him a driver so that he could never "escape". Nothing to stop him making a phone call or talking to someone at work though.

SpamChaudFroid · 20/03/2019 10:32

@dustarr73, I think it's because I was watching Daniel's proposal to Lily and it was all just so perfect, swiftly followed by realising it is media after all, and the cynic in me started thinking about how much editing and direction had a part to play in it. Possibly because the lines of reality TV and fiction have become so blurred now with programmes like BB, Made in Chelsea, fake Youtube drama etc.

@user1497863568
Also, I've come to view 9/11 etc as revenge for the holocaust

Revenge by who?

birdonawire1 · 20/03/2019 10:36

President Kennedy wasn't killed by the lone shooter in the book depository, but by a trigger happy security man in one of the cars behind Kennedy's car. Not a conspiracy theory. THE TRUTH!

Hushnownobodycares · 20/03/2019 11:16

My current fave is the flat earth theory. I have a well educated friend who apparently belives it Shock although I've never had an actual discussion.

Re the ghastly Andrew being secretly gay - there was a story doing the rounds in the press some years ago about a 'senior royal' being found in bed with one of the servants. It all went quiet and we've never heard any more since. Make of that what you will Grin

@SpamChaudFroid Wouldnt be the first time they used actors.Remember Trisha.

And you are right all the lines are blurred.Everything is scripted to within an inch of its life

HolyForkingShirt · 20/03/2019 12:05

That Michelle Obama was actually a man named Michael! Which is why there's no photos of her when she was younger, or something like that.

I laughed it off but then her autobiography is called "Becoming Michelle"....

MissionItsPossible · 20/03/2019 12:12

When Big Brother was still on and it moved to Channel 5 I kept saying that it seemed a lot less real and more scripted and people kept telling me I was just being paranoid... and then screenshots came out that showed the producers instructing them on what to do and say! They also filmed a 'goodnight' bedtime scene and the lights turned off and when they got the footage they wanted the lights came back on and the housemates all got up and carried on with their day!

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 20/03/2019 13:03

HolyForkingShirt The Michelle Obama autobiography is called "Becoming" not "Becoming Michelle"

BlackCatSleeping · 20/03/2019 13:23

I thought Charles was the one there were rumors about. He certainly keeps very dodgy company. There have been so many sex scandals involving people who are close to him.

Andrew was accused by a 14-year-old girl of having had sex with her but it was all hushed up pretty quickly.

I think that's a shitty thing to say about Michelle Obama. She's a beautiful, strong, intelligent woman. That really bothers so many people. She has had to put up with so many abusive comments like the ape in heels shit. Sad

mummamaker · 20/03/2019 13:35

The Mandela effect is very interesting, worth looking up if you haven't heard of it

ShatnersWig · 20/03/2019 14:04

Mandela effect is not a conspiracy. It's people insisting they remember something happening or being different to fact. Also known as false memory.

HolyForkingShirt · 20/03/2019 14:32

I think that's a shitty thing to say about Michelle Obama.

I'm just repeating a theory I've heard onto this thread, not saying that I think it's true or made it up! The thread did ask for the most outrageous theories...

AliceAforethought · 20/03/2019 15:06

HolyForking I think the "shitty thing" comment may have been a comment on the perpetrators of that hateful theory, rather than you, but then again why share it so it can spread further?
I really dislike stupid, senseless internet rumours about actual living individuals.
It's bullying on a worldwide, mega scale.

HolyForkingShirt · 20/03/2019 15:13

In which case, why has no-one called out the comments on here calling various Royal Family members paedos....

mummamaker · 20/03/2019 15:20

@ShatnersWig you have such an aggressive tone

TeaforTwoBiscuitOrThree · 20/03/2019 15:25

Can't remember which Beatles record it is (the vinyl type), but if you played it backwards (no idea how to), the lyrics said "Turn around dead man". so yeah, Paul McCartney is a fakey!

ShatnersWig · 20/03/2019 15:32

@mummamaker Just being brief, not aggressive.

  1. Pointing out that it's not a conspiracy (because it's not).
  2. Stating what it is for those who don't know what it is.
  3. Giving it its other name.

Aggressive would have been

"Oh for fuck's sake. The Mandela Effect is NOT a fucking conspiracy, it's a bloody psychological phenomenon that was first investigated by Sigmund Freud and there were plenty of examples of it before people thought Mandela had died in the 1980s long before he actually did"
