Give me your best conspiracy theory!

I've just finished watching Behind The Curve on Netflix - a documentary about the Flat Earth movement. I remain unconvinced but still good fun to watch.

My favourite conspiracy theory though is the Titanic/Olympic one which I'm inclined to believe 🙈 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMSTitanicalternative_theories

Any good ones out there?

The Harry Potter one would be great.

Ex was convinced the Falklands conflict was all pre-arranged between us and Argentina as Margaret Thatcher was losing popularity and the soldiers paid £££££££ to take part. Note ex.

That's nice to hear that the people on The Undateables aren't actors. I had a horrible thought it might be some sort of TOWIE set-up.

FriendOrFaux · 19/03/2019 13:04

Georgia Guidestones.
Paul McCartney switch.
Marilyn Monroe murder/suicide.
Idea that Hitler escaped to South America.

There's so many to choose from!

MissionItsPossible · 19/03/2019 13:15

Thanks joyful

ShatnersWig · 19/03/2019 13:21

Quite @joyfullittlehippo No conspiracy required. Nor demons.

Quite forceful language there @ShatnersWig . Why do you say that? (I'm genuinely interested.)

PosterPostingPosterishly · 19/03/2019 13:40

Joyful
Thanks for explaining, quite a while since I've read the articles on Elisa Lam. Sad story.

Shatner
You are unnecessarily aggressive.....how strange.

ShatnersWig · 19/03/2019 13:44

@SandAndSea The film likens Phil the Greek to Fred West and alleges he's a psychopath and that Liz and Mags were 'gangsters in tiaras'. One of the writers of the film (documentaries don't usually have writers) is Victor Lewis-Smith who is not only a satirist and newspaper columnist but used to ring up Diana pretending to be Stephen Hawking and recorded the conversations. He's been sued for libel by Paul McKenna (who won). There are actually letters that have been made public between Phil the Greek and Diana that show quite a lot of affection between them and the idea that he is a murderer is ludicrous. I'm not saying he's perfect of course, but really.

My DH believes we are living in a simulation. I mean, I've read some proper scientists musing about this as a possibility so I accept it can't be ruled out, but the specifics of my DH's beliefs are bonkers. I've started to enjoy when he says things like "so if I'm wrong, why isn't there proof of (insert random well proven thing)???" and I get to burst his insane bubble and say "there is proof. Look."

ShatnersWig · 19/03/2019 13:51

@Poster Why is saying that something is total bollocks considered aggressive? I genuinely don't get that.

PosterPostingPosterishly · 19/03/2019 13:55

Were you ever taught that it's not what you say, it's the way you say it?

Zoflorabore · 19/03/2019 13:56

Oh I love a good conspiracy theory. I got ds (16) a brilliant book about them from Asda for £4 and it's fab.

My dear departed dgm was convinced that Princess Diana was murdered by MFI- my dad ( ever the joker ) asked her if a wardrobe fell on her Grin

SandAndSea · 19/03/2019 14:03

@ShatnersWig - I can't pretend to be any kind of expert here but isn't it as ludicrous as reading about anyone you don't know killing someone? Maybe less so, given what we know about royalty through history?

Have you read about the case of the missing children in Canada? The Queen and Prince Philip were apparently found guilty.

Victormeldrew1 · 19/03/2019 14:19

I thought it was made up by a man called kevin annet he made up lots of things for money

Whoateallthecheese · 19/03/2019 14:25

.

beenandgoneandbackagain · 19/03/2019 14:30

PAnAm 103 isn't a conspiracy theory. The threat was known, I don't think the authorities knew exactly which flight, but definitely that there was a genuine threat against a PanAm flight that week. link here to NY Times

There was definitely a cover up at Lockerbie - too many things not adding up.

ShatnersWig · 19/03/2019 14:41

@Poster Sorry, I didn't realise that I should have said "Actually, I think that's rather a load of tosh and twaddle"

@SandAndSea Found guilty along with the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby (who was only 9 at the time the Liz and Phil were apparently murdering 10 children in Canada) by six self-appointed judges (none of whom have any legal experience) of a common law court that isn't recognised as a legal body by anyone on the face of the planet. Yeah, I'll give that a lot of credence.

ShatnersWig · 19/03/2019 14:51

Except there are no six self-appointed judges. The court (supposedly based in Brussels) doesn't exist in Brussels either.

The International Tribunal into Crimes of Church and State (or ITCCS) is a one-man blog that pretends to be a tribunal established to enforce common law. Despite claims of being based in Brussels, the whole thing is written in Canada by Kevin D. Annett, a defrocked United Church of Canada minister.

At the heart of the “organization” is something Annett calls the International Common Law Court of Justice (ICLCJ), which is rather similar to those “common law courts” sometimes set up by freemen-on-the-land, right down to the “citizen jurors”. This court exists only on Annett’s blog and the six judges do not exist.

Among other things, the ICLCJ has issued a proclamation dissolving Canada which Annett has replaced with the Republic of Kanata.

SandAndSea · 19/03/2019 14:54

@ShatnersWig - Do you mean to shut down the conversation?

@Sand Um, I was replying to your question here: Have you read about the case of the missing children in Canada? The Queen and Prince Philip were apparently found guilty.

Yes, I have and I am pointing out the Queen and Prince Philip were found guilty by a one man blogger in Canada, not by any legal entity recognised anywhere in the world and the fact that the same blogger also found Justin Welby guilty of these murders when a) he was 9 and b) not in Canada, has unilaterally decided to dissolve Canada, and many other myriad bizarre things, would tend to suggest that it's all a bit silly.

I don't quite see how that's shutting down a conversation - I'm conversing about it!

SandAndSea · 19/03/2019 15:09

@ShatnersWig - Thanks for explaining. It's hard to tell what people mean sometimes.
