I've just finished watching Behind The Curve on Netflix - a documentary about the Flat Earth movement. I remain unconvinced but still good fun to watch.

My favourite conspiracy theory though is the Titanic/Olympic one which I'm inclined to believe 🙈 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMSTitanicalternative_theories

Any good ones out there?

Am I the only one who can find nothing on cumberbatch? Starting to think it's actually a mumsnet conspiracy so I'll spend my night googling rather than doing housework 😩😂

MadisonAvenue · 18/03/2019 22:15

Cabinet all I can find is stuff about his fans saying his wife is just a PR stunt. Nothing especially interesting.

RomanticFatigue · 18/03/2019 22:36

God that documentary was awful, I had to turn it off.
My favourites are the Fake Paul McCartney and Finland not existing.

@MadisonAvenue that's what I found but thought I must be missing the obvious 🙈🙈🙈🙈

ShatnersWig · 18/03/2019 22:45

Sorry OP but the Titanic/Olympic one makes for two good books but is total twaddle and easily disproved (although there are one or two issues raised that ask some interesting questions generally although not connected to a switch. If you're inclined to believe it, you need to get out more Grin

My favourite one is that the car crash involving Diana, Princess of Wales was all staged so that she could escape the limelight. She and Dodi were taken to a hospital for some minor plastic surgery and then went and spent a few months on a remote desert island to let the scars heal before starting a new life in the US. Also on the island were Elvis, Lord Lucan and Shergar.

Cabinetoffthewall · 18/03/2019 22:47

@joyfullittlehippo blimey that really does sound completely nuts 😳 thank you for explaining 😊

My favourite is that poor Elvis ended up in a caravan 😂

Urgh2019 · 18/03/2019 23:06

I love the Finland not existing one..

Clawdy · 18/03/2019 23:09

DH many years ago worked as an extra on a tv programme filmed in Yorkshire. One of the guys he shared a dressing room with told him he was Hank Williams, the country singer, and that his death had been faked. He sounded so positive and believable, and sang songs in a deep American country voice, DH very nearly believed him.....

JaneJeffer · 18/03/2019 23:19
The moon landing press conference was such a joyous occasion Confused
PineapplePower · 18/03/2019 23:19

James Dean faked his death to live in Canada as a normie; he recently died in a car crash in his 90s.

Clark Gable hit and killed someone drink driving and killed a pedestrian and the studios had someone else take the fall.

Grim. They made human history and act like they’re at a funeral.

swindy · 18/03/2019 23:25

The Vegas shooting was weird

Lizard people, Justin Bieber is a lizard person, so is the Queen.

Australia isn’t real.

SherlockSays · 19/03/2019 07:14

I'm actually writing an assignment for my degree about conspiracy theories right now - this is giving my light relief from it!

I did once read something about Tupac still being alive which was very convincing and was all to do with the number 7.

longwayoff · 19/03/2019 07:26

Prince Andrew? Donkeys years, before he left the Navy.

longwayoff · 19/03/2019 07:30

Thanks hippo, so mad I couldn't begin to describe any detail.

GoFiguire · 19/03/2019 07:33

The moon landings were all faked.

PosterPostingPosterishly · 19/03/2019 07:40

The Elisa Lam case, as mentioned by a pp, is very creepy.

I love the Harry Potter conspiracy, that would be amazing!

Sandy Hook and Boston bombing conspiracies are interesting to read about. Apparently faked so that the US government could induce a state of fear that would make citizens follow orders and be more government led.

ShatnersWig · 19/03/2019 07:46

@Poster I wouldn't class Elisa Lam as a conspiracy theory though. Either a) she was murdered or b) underwent a psychotic episode.

PosterPostingPosterishly · 19/03/2019 07:51

I see what you mean, however it's listed in most articles when it comes to conspiracy theories surrounding unexplained deaths.

Still an interesting read though!

Myusernameismud · 19/03/2019 08:00

My ex (thoroughly unpleasant, abusive POS) genuinely believes a number of conspiracy theories. Here are some of the best ones.
Pepsi contains HIV virus, he won't drink it.
The David Icke shit.
Moon landings were faked.
That the Illuminati controls basically everything (one of his most uses phrases is 'that's illuminati confirmed bruv')
That childhood vaccinations are a method of population control (there's a tracker in there apparently, and chemicals that make you 'conform')
Diana was murdered by Mi5 because she was pregnant with Dodi's baby.
That his partner of 10 years and mother of his 2 children left him because she was secretly a lesbian (not such a well known one, but I can tell you it's not true Grin)

He won't get a proper job or pay taxes, he's self employed and doesn't use the NHS, because they are all the ways 'the man' can keep tabs on what you're doing.

He's 37 now, and has smoked weed every day of his life from the age of 14, but I'm sure that doesn't have anything to do with his paranoia at all Hmm

HalfBloodPrincess · 19/03/2019 08:19

I’ve thought of another one. This was actually told to me by a teacher when I was at school back in 1996.

Jesus was an alien.

The just of it was that Mary was abducted and impregnated by aliens. The bright star was actually the spaceship. He had alien powers which was why he could heal, turn water into wine, walk on water etc. They removed his body from the tomb as he wouldn’t decompose like humans do.

There was more but I can’t remember.
