How many pillows do you sleep on?

I've discovered that I need to sleep with just one pillow, having always been a two pillow kind of girl.

I saw a neurologist a couple of years ago because I have weird cervical migraines and his best advice was sleep with one pillow which I ignored because obviously I know better Wink. Turns out that highly educated doctor was right and little old me was wrong!

But I'm interested to know how many pillows everyone else sleep on and also what kind of pillow-I have a sturdy latex pillow and a softer pillow and I think I prefer the sturdy pillow.

Also if you have more pillows on your bed than you sleep on, what do you do with the spares while you sleep?

{most exciting thread I've ever started}

One. But I need a new one.

It started out quite puffy and large and is now getting very squished and odd shaped so isn't comfortable at all. It's probably why I have neck ache tbh.

Ivegotthree · 13/03/2019 20:19

Read with two pillows (one fat, one less so), then throw the fat pillow on the floor and sleep on the thinner one.

Never used to throw one on the floor - is this some weird mid-life behaviour?

boxlikeamarchhare · 13/03/2019 20:20

One - I broke my neck many years ago and the consultant told me that one medium/firm pillow was required to preserve the integrity of the spine. Of course I was terrified to do anything else but listen to him.

I have six pillows on my bed but only ever sleep on one.

just the one, but it's a big 80x80 firm hollow fibre one (import from germany).
It's the best pillow ever.

Deadringer · 13/03/2019 20:24

I use just one, a latex one. I have it about 20 years and it's still perfect!

Shodan · 13/03/2019 20:27

Currently, one. But I have 5 on my bed (and it's just me in there!) because a) as the week progresses the one I'm using squishes down so I'll throw pillows around till I find the 'right' one for that night and b) some nights I can't sleep properly (allergies/there's an unidentified noise/brain won't shut off) so I sleep propped up in a semi seated position.

I'm forever on the hunt for the Perfect Pillow though.

barkinatthemoon · 13/03/2019 20:34

oh god I sleep on 4 every night 😬... maybe I'll try less tonight!

HettyStThomas · 13/03/2019 20:36

One, as thin as I can get it.

starzig · 13/03/2019 20:39

None

RedRiverShore · 13/03/2019 20:39

2, bottom one is just any standard pillow, top one is a soft pillow, DH has a very cheap thin bottom pillow and a medium top pillow

GlitterPixie · 13/03/2019 20:39

I can’t drop off without 3 but strangely I wake up every morning without fail with two thrown off and my face buried under the bottom one. DH says I fall asleep for about 10 mins then bury myself under the bottom one Grin

Snog · 13/03/2019 20:39

Does anyone use the ones that are contoured to support your spine? Like a figure of 8 in section where one loop is a bit bigger than the other and there's a dip in the middle

buckeejit · 13/03/2019 20:39

Ooh, 1 latex here. Life changing. Other latex users, what brand do you use please? And are they high profile or low, (thick or thin)?

Mine is healthbeds I think but price have gone up. Want to invest in another couple.

starzig · 13/03/2019 20:40

We tried them snog. OH hated it. I liked it for reading but too high for sleeping.

buckeejit · 13/03/2019 20:40

Latex is way better than memory foam btw, I don't know why they don't make cushions out of it!

BrusselPout · 13/03/2019 20:42

One, and it needs to be reasonably flat and hard ish - basically an impossible pillow to buy

GrumpyOldMare · 13/03/2019 20:47

One. But I have four in the bed shaped around me so wherever I turn there's one to lean on

Same here

FaithInfinity · 13/03/2019 20:47

buckeejit mine are dunlopillows, years old but I wouldn’t change them!

APurpleSquirrel · 13/03/2019 20:47

1 memory foam pillow - find it hard to sleep in a bed with normal pillows, never sleep well so often take my pillow with me - took it to hospital when I had DS!

e1y1 · 13/03/2019 20:50

@hihellohihey, some of the pillow cases came from Walmart in the US and some from Wilko's a surprising amount of pillowcases do fit though, especially the Oxford type ones.

The pillows themselves are from King of Cotton and I love them.

e1y1 · 13/03/2019 20:53

So *KoC should sell SK pillowcases too here

alwaysncxx · 13/03/2019 20:53

1 always! DP sleeps with 4, I don't know how he does it.

It would make my neck ache terribly

hugoagogo · 13/03/2019 20:59

2 plus a v shaped one I got for a frozen shoulder, now I am attached.Blush

strawberrypenguin · 13/03/2019 21:01
  1. microfibre underneath and a feather one on top.

Always used to have one bug started getting really stiff shoulders (side sleeper) 2 pillows help.

VeniVidiViciTwice · 13/03/2019 21:05

I have four, not massive ones though. A mix of firm and squishy, oh and I still use my bf pillow ('baby' is 4 Blush) as the shape gives me enough dip for shoulder and head...
