How many pillows do you sleep on?

I've discovered that I need to sleep with just one pillow, having always been a two pillow kind of girl.

I saw a neurologist a couple of years ago because I have weird cervical migraines and his best advice was sleep with one pillow which I ignored because obviously I know better Wink. Turns out that highly educated doctor was right and little old me was wrong!

But I'm interested to know how many pillows everyone else sleep on and also what kind of pillow-I have a sturdy latex pillow and a softer pillow and I think I prefer the sturdy pillow.

Also if you have more pillows on your bed than you sleep on, what do you do with the spares while you sleep?

{most exciting thread I've ever started}

About 6 months ago I swapped to 1 pillow after using two pillows for years & years.
It's definitely made a difference to my neck & shoulder aches. But it never would have occurred to me before.
I just use a synthetic pillow, didn't like a down one as the feathers used to poke out. Haven't tried a memory foam or a wool one.
Are memory foam ones good?

MegaBat · 13/03/2019 08:15

I sleep on one but it's a Tempur cloud foam one.

Lovethetimeyouhave · 13/03/2019 08:16

I sleep on 0! I lay on my front and get terrible neck ache of I use one

@TrashPanda that was me! Constantly squishing up pillows to get them comfy. I thought I had shit pillows but no, just too many!

None. I sleep on my arm in the crook of my elbow. Hate pillows

DerelictWreck · 13/03/2019 08:27

One. But I have four in the bed shaped around me so wherever I turn there's one to lean on!

labazsisgoingmad · 13/03/2019 08:28

3 for me i sleep on my stomach or side

e1y1 · 13/03/2019 08:42

8-10 Blush have a few stacked for my head of course then they gradually go down the bed until just under my rear so I sleep on pillows going up from my behind up to my head so I'm sort of proped up - but not propped too high as of course the pillows give iyswim, have always been this way. The weight of the pillows on the bed probably outweigh me.

Pillows are superking size "down feel" microfibre cluster.

hihellohihey · 13/03/2019 09:19

One, and I have recently invested in a firm down filled one from The White Company and it has changed my life

hihellohihey · 13/03/2019 09:20

e1y1 where did you get your superking size pillowcases from please?

Backseatonthebus · 13/03/2019 09:23

One. I've had neck surgery and use a Sissel pillow. So comfortable that it goes everywhere with me.

Backseatonthebus · 13/03/2019 09:27

Should add that I am very susceptible to cervicogenic headaches, and my Sissel has definitely made a difference.

OddestSock · 13/03/2019 09:28

None, I sleep on my front.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 13/03/2019 09:32

If normal pillows, 3. At the moment I have one thick slab shaped memory foam one and a feather one underneath. And a v pillow that goes along my back and between my knees and a second feather one to hug.

DonPablo · 13/03/2019 09:43

@Backseatonthebus that's what my headaches are called-I'd forgotten the proper name. My headaches also affect my arms which is weird but I'm so glad I've finally taken the advice I was given. I tried topirimate and that has helped too but I've finished with them now and I can feel it all starting up again. I'm going to check out that pillow, have never heard of it before and I thought I was a bit of a pillow expert Smile

One or none. Spinal surgery means I'm better than with more

Backseatonthebus · 13/03/2019 10:19

Poor you DonPablo, it's grim isn't it. I get the arm pain too, and really tender elbows. This is the pillow I've got (probably cheaper elsewhere?). Am a side sleeper, so not sure what it would be like if you sleep on your back. I find it most comfy if I angle it slightly, so the side edge of the pillow on the way I'm facing is pointing slightly downwards. Just saying that as I read that in a review, and it really helped me!

The other pillow which is really comfy is the Mediflow, a water pillow. Have you tried that?

Hope you find something that helps the pain, it's so very draining isnt it. I see a traditional osteopath and that makes a huge difference. He doesnt do the crunching and clicking that a lot of modern osteopaths do, it's just a very gentle release of the tissues in the neck. That, vitamin B12 and capsaicin cream really help.

Fuppy · 13/03/2019 10:19

Normally 1 memory foam or none (sometimes I need to sleep completely flat)

During pregnancy...currently 6-7 😂

Pinkbells · 13/03/2019 13:37

Just one, memory foam one. But I have a huge 65x65 which I use just if I'm sitting up with a book, not for sleeping.

Pinkbells · 13/03/2019 13:38

8-10
Fuck me that's a lot of pillows!!

twilightcafe · 13/03/2019 14:13

Three. Blush

Feather-filled only.
I tried memory foam and ended up with a cricked neck.

DonPablo · 13/03/2019 14:51

@Backseatonthebus I've never come across someone who has experienced the arm pain too-I actually thought I was going mad and imagining it until I met this lovely neurologist. He could even describe the pain!

How are you now? And great username BTW!

One I don’t feel comfortable with more than one

Tensixtysix · 13/03/2019 16:08

One latex pillow. Never liked lots of pillows and soft ones make me feel suffocated!

DonPablo · 13/03/2019 20:12

Just been looking at that pillow @Backseatonthebus that's basically the shape I try and make my top pillow. I was (before the 1 pillow revelation) sleeping with the firm latex pillow on the bottom and a cheapy cotton pillow on the top but they ruin so quickly because of the squishing that I do to get comfy. I'm a side sleeper mainly too.

It's a lot of money to spend if I don't like it but it looks like I need it! Smile
