How many pillows do you sleep on?

I've discovered that I need to sleep with just one pillow, having always been a two pillow kind of girl.

I saw a neurologist a couple of years ago because I have weird cervical migraines and his best advice was sleep with one pillow which I ignored because obviously I know better Wink. Turns out that highly educated doctor was right and little old me was wrong!

But I'm interested to know how many pillows everyone else sleep on and also what kind of pillow-I have a sturdy latex pillow and a softer pillow and I think I prefer the sturdy pillow.

Also if you have more pillows on your bed than you sleep on, what do you do with the spares while you sleep?

{most exciting thread I've ever started}

Hmm how weird I’m the same! I had two for ages. Recently I’ve been having problems with my neck (awaiting MRI) and getting lots of headaches. I’ve found sleeping on one (latex foam!) pillow far more comfortable.

It's a revelation tbh @FaithInfinity and the latex pillow is so great isn't it? It almost doesn't feel like it should be comfy!

One - a wool one. So lovely and comfy and cosy!

Oh god don’t tell me this! You’re probably right... but it feels wrong to be sleeping on one pillow!

And I have headaches. But no. Can’t be the fact I have two massive pillows. Can’t be

DustyMaiden · 13/03/2019 07:32

I sleep on one pillow. The other pillow and the big square pillow and the purely for decoration cushions get put on the floor. DH swears at them every morning. I feel so sorry for them so will bring them more friends.

DonPablo · 13/03/2019 07:34

@SillyMoomin come to the dark side, give one pillow a go! I'm amazed at the difference its making!

Now a wool pillow is one I've not tried...

One or none if my back's particularly bad.

MrsBertBibby · 13/03/2019 07:36

None.

EBearhug · 13/03/2019 07:38

I sleep on one, but I cuddle up to the others. (Haven't slept with anyone in about a million years.)

Byrytrain · 13/03/2019 07:38

None

It probably also makes a difference whether you sleep on your back, front or side.

shinyNewPound · 13/03/2019 07:39

I was getting a bad back and found I couldn't have a lie in without waking up stiff and achey. I bought an (expensive) orthopaedic pillow to try, thinking if I liked it I'd get a second. It was slightly too high to use with another pillow so just used the one. It has been a revelation - literally after the first night I had no aches and pains. Can't believe it was such a simple solution!

cherryblossomgin · 13/03/2019 07:40

I use 2 but then are thin DH uses 3 thick pillows. I find it comfy to lie on my back. On holiday we only get one pillow and I have no problem with it but DH is always trying to find a spare.

Bluesheep8 · 13/03/2019 07:40

Used to be 1. Then a v shaped pillow due to a frozen shoulder, now 2. A thin flat one and a squashier thicker one. I find it supports my shoulder better as it still causes me problems.

Dafspunk · 13/03/2019 07:40

One but I have 4 extras that I use to prop up my various limbs as I don’t like them to touch each other.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 13/03/2019 07:42

I have also recently discovered I sleep better with less pillows. I used to love loads now I’m a one firm pillow kinda gal.
I have several on my side of the bed including a big V pillow but they are used for propping myself up when I’m still awake and reading or whatever then get heaved onto the floor to go to sleep.

Sinead100 · 13/03/2019 07:44

Realised very recently I also sleep better with just the one pillow (and I’m a headache sufferer too!). The one I sleep on is a bamboo pillow, its pretty firm I would say but really does help me sleep better.

JuniperGinYay · 13/03/2019 07:45

2 very thin, thinner together than my husbands single.

MrsBertBibby · 13/03/2019 07:47

Where do people get very thin pillows? My partner needs very thin ones but I can't find replacements that aren't lumpy and shit.

TrashPanda · 13/03/2019 07:51

I have two, one very thin and one slightly thicker. Two thicker ones are too big and I don't like feather ones. The kids have one each and the baby has none. DP has two thicker ones and a super squishy feather one. He gets a sore neck and back and I keep telling him it's his pillows. He doesn't just lie on them, he scrunches them on their side and it looks so uncomfortable.

Natsku · 13/03/2019 07:57

I have two pillows but only one is to sleep on, the other is to put over my head when OH starts snoring!

fleshmarketclose · 13/03/2019 08:00

Two or three when I'm struggling to sleep.

MustBeThin · 13/03/2019 08:05

3 Blush

Pascha · 13/03/2019 08:12

I sleep on one firm latex pillow and cuddle one huggy pillow which turns with me whichever way I'm facing. This pillow is my protection against little feet arriving in my bed in the early hours and booting me in the tummy Hmm Smile
