What kind of exercise do you do?

EEELA · 11/03/2019 12:49

What kind of exercise or which sports do you do? And how often?

Mainly asking if you're of a relatively 'normal' weight and not trying to lose lots of weight/aren't training for something very intense/etc.

I want to find a sport or exercise that I enjoy. I'm a bit overweight but not massively (know that it will reduce once I actually start moving...). I used to run but found it pretty boring alone and have moved away from my running friends.

I was going to post this in the exercise topic but they don't seem to get many responses over there...

I go to CrossFit. It’s the fittest and strongest I have been in years and I’m a size 8/10.

I should run more though

BlueChampagne · 11/03/2019 13:05

I like running on my own! Much-needed head space. Otherwise try Park Run, or local Hash? Good podcast/music selection?

Sirzy · 11/03/2019 13:05

If you like running have you looked for a local running club and parkrun?

I do Zumba three times a week, booty Barre twice a week, cardio/HITT Pilates, yoga, flex and tone.

I have found that I do better in classes. I don’t have the motivation to exercise at home and need instructors to make sure I’m doing it properly.

shatteredandstressed · 11/03/2019 13:07

Yoga 2-3 times a week, get a walk in every day about 30 mins. Weight training 10 mins 2-3 times a week that's it.

Bigonesmallone3 · 11/03/2019 13:07

Lift my bourbon from my tea to my face..

Decormad38 · 11/03/2019 13:07

Walk the dog. Going to start a park run Saturdays. Taking it slowly Grin

PatchworkElmer · 11/03/2019 13:09

I also much prefer classes. Have you tried rebounding? I love it.

I also go to Spinning, HIIT, circuits, and boxercise. I need to start Pilates again because my flexibility and core strength need some work!!

Zampa · 11/03/2019 13:13

I do 2 60 minute classes of strength and cardio HIIT a week. I need a set class to make me attend and work hard.

In the 3 months I've been going, I've dropped a dress size and lost 1.7kg of fat and gained 1kg of muscle. (I'm about 61kg in total and 5'9").

NameChanger9000 · 11/03/2019 13:13

I'm 5ft 3 & about 9 stone which I manage to maintain with a sensible diet but not a huge amount of exercise.

I go walking with my DH at the weekend & maybe once during the week on my own if I have time & depending on the weather. We have a route we enjoy that's about 2 miles. Just walk normal pace as it's more for my mental health for me rather than weight loss.

I'm also very active during the week with housework & running errands so that helps keep me moving.

FortyFacedFuckers · 11/03/2019 13:13

I have very recently taken up boxing/weight/circuits classes I am doing 2/3 per week and really enjoying them.

EffYouSeeKaye · 11/03/2019 13:16

Walk the dog (40 mins 3 times a week at fastish pace, then longer but slower at the weekend with the dcs) Cycle at a mid-pace for 45 / 50 mins 4-5 times a week.

evilharpy · 11/03/2019 13:18

Running
RPM/spin
Body pump
Pilates
Yoga
Step
Bootcamp
Adult ballet
Kettlebells
Combat

Not all at the same time! Running is my first love but I’m only getting back into it after a long period of back problems. I’m going to re-join a club soon and have a 10k in April to train for.

Pilates keeps my bad back under control.

I do a spin class a couple of times a week, bootcamp once a week, pilates once a week with extra targeted exercises in between. But as I get back into running i may have to ditch a spin class. The other stuff I pick and choose as the notion takes me.

tierraJ · 11/03/2019 13:19

I go to the gym twice a week usually do weights & cardio. I go more when I have time.

I walk a lot too.

I've got two stone to loose, I diet & eat 1400 - 1500 calories a day. I've lost 2 stone already.

tierraJ · 11/03/2019 13:20

I do the gym mainly to help keep my knee & back pain at bay.
My knee pain has improved as I've lost weight.

monty09 · 11/03/2019 13:33

I love walking, I've started running which I enjoy definitely good for head space I also go to the gym, I do Combat, pump attack and Zumba. I'm only 4ft11 and 10.7 so trying to get it down abit and tone up

Seniorschoolmum · 11/03/2019 13:46

I’m single mum, mid fifties & wanted to improve health generally.
I do 5k Park Run on Saturdays, practice run on Wednesday lunchtimes and a weekly martial arts class with ds. I’ve lost about 8lb but much healthier and more flexible. Fewer colds or aches & pains. Less stressed.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 11/03/2019 13:49

I go jogging, swimming and cycling (but the latter only when it's warm and dry so summer only really). I also do spinning but hate the classes so do it on my own in the gym.

shitpark · 11/03/2019 14:01

Weights, running, yoga and walk my dog twice a day (large breed). I don't count calories but try to eat mindfully and generally healthily. Weigh around 9.5 stones at 5 ft 6.

lastqueenofscotland · 11/03/2019 14:05

I run about 50 miles a week. It’s been the love of my life since I was about 11. Had varying degrees of success at it at a decent level in the past.

MinnieMountain · 11/03/2019 14:40

Swimming. Indoor climbing when I have a partner (rarely).
Otherwise I walk or cycle everywhere.
The important thing is to find something that you enjoy so that you will stick at it.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/03/2019 15:09

I go for a long, brisk walk everyday. At home I use hand weights and resistance bands for toning. I can't run anymore as my hips can't tolerate it.

badgerread · 11/03/2019 15:30

I do 4 x 45 mins HIIT classes a week and love them. Tried EVERYTHING in the past. They're varied and time flies plus you feel that you've really worked at the end of it.

cheeseypuff · 11/03/2019 15:34

I currently (try) and do 1 weights (Body Pump) class & 1 spin class per week.
I do run but like you tend to find it boring - have you tried a running club or ParkRun?
I also cycle with the kids/ husband & have done HIIT classes & pilates in the past.

megletthesecond · 11/03/2019 15:34

HIIT class once a week. And an Abs class once a week.
I try and get a couple of short (15 mins) runs in too. I walk to work 3 days a week, that's a six mile round trip including the school run.

It's not enough to keep me really fit but I'm scraping by maintaining my health for now. I'll be able to do more in 18 months when my youngest is at secondary school. I hope to get back to 2 cardio, 1 strength and 1 yoga a week. not that I'm counting down the days or anything.
