What kind of exercise do you do?

What kind of exercise or which sports do you do? And how often?

Mainly asking if you're of a relatively 'normal' weight and not trying to lose lots of weight/aren't training for something very intense/etc.

I want to find a sport or exercise that I enjoy. I'm a bit overweight but not massively (know that it will reduce once I actually start moving...). I used to run but found it pretty boring alone and have moved away from my running friends.

I was going to post this in the exercise topic but they don't seem to get many responses over there...

Dog walk once a day, at least 6 days a week 1-1.5 hours

HIIT class twice a week

Very occasional run if I’m feeling fat or unfit or gloomy (get huge rush of endorphins)

Lots of gardening

According to my Fitbit hoovering and mopping the floors count as exercise too (big old house, gets very dirty)

ShivD · 11/03/2019 15:57

‘Just’ yoga, I aim for 4 classes a week but it’s usually more like 3. I like a strong, dynamic class so

Pretamum · 11/03/2019 16:13

I do a circuits class 1x a week, a personal training session 1x a week and then try to get on the treadmill or cross trainer in our spare room a couple of times a week. I'm a size 12 at the moment, come down from a 14. I've lost a lot of chubbiness in my face, and while I'm fit and healthy, I still have some chunky areas- but I couldn't care less about it.

@EEELA some great ideas above. Personally go to the gym and weight train. Size 10, 5ft 2 and about 8st11

You have to find something that fits in with your life. So you can end up making excuses and not going! So classes that you can get to. Personally gym works for me as It's open long hours so I can fit it in with kids and work etc.

MashedSpud · 11/03/2019 16:19

Rowing for around 30 mins, every other day
Aerobics for 20-30 mins almost every day
Weights a couple of times a week.

Brightpinktulip · 11/03/2019 16:53

I am trying to lose half a stone I've managed to gain this past year.
After years of regular swimming ive changed things up.

I now do two 45 spin classes a week and one 45 minute boxfit class. I swim once a week for 25 minutes.

Still not shifting this half stone but I enjoy it so I'll keep it up.

DarlingNikita · 11/03/2019 16:58

Mainly I do zumba/dance aerobics. It's huge fun and an easy way to get sweaty, fit and strong because you just get carried away with the music and absorbed by trying to follow the moves.

I also find it hugely liberating to flail about in a class full of women of all shapes/sizes/ages/abilities who don't give a flying fuck how bad I am or what I look like Grin

I've never felt so strong, toned or fit before.

DarlingNikita · 11/03/2019 17:00

Oh, and I do yoga at home, about 45 mins a morning five days a week. I don't do a very strenuous version because of various health/injury issues, but it's good for stretching and bending and I think –hope! –it's going towards keeping me a bit more limber and upright than I might be as I get older. I also do breathing and meditation as part of my session; not exercise per se, but good discipline.

carrie74 · 11/03/2019 17:08

Yoga class once a week (dynamic, so heart rate is elevated for at least half of it, and generally dripping in sweat)

Circuits class once a week

PT session fortnightly

Sometimes a 5k run (I don't like running much, but like its effectiveness)

Sometimes some weights/HIIT at home

At the minimum, 30 minutes of brisk walking every day.

I have a few targets I need to meet - my Apple Watch sets daily and monthly targets which I like to meet. My health insurance also has incentives for activity (most pressing being paying for my Apple Watch Grin). I find these really useful to keep me moving.

Spiderpants · 11/03/2019 17:16

I'm very over weight and I swim and play hockey badly!!

fussychica · 11/03/2019 17:18

Wow you are all so active!
62 size 12. Essential stretching and light weights at home every day without fail unless I'm ill. My joints, especially knees, feel so much better than they did before I started a couple of years ago.
Zumba once a week. Fairweather tennis occasionally.
Walk everywhere, usually at least 3kms a day.

Currently zero. Lying on the sofa recovering from a severe bout of flu and secondary infections. DH is watching me like a hawk now I'm feeling a bit better as he knows I'll do tooo much too soon if he doesn't Grin

Fazackerley · 11/03/2019 17:19

Walking try and do 4 or 5 miles a day

Have started couch to 5k

EmmaGrundyForPM · 11/03/2019 17:23

I go to the gym after work most days. I usually do classes as otherwise it's very easy not to go!
I do:
Spin x 3
HIIT x2
Circuits/Bootcamp x2
Aerobics x1 (straight before spin class so that's a killer!)

Some evenings I do two classes, sometimes I do one. I also cycle in good weather, usually 30 - 40 miles at a time but that's at the weekend and is usually quite leisurely (and involves a pub stop....)

I hate running, I find it painful and no fun. Dh runs a lot but i just cant get into it and don't want to!

WeMarchOn · 11/03/2019 17:24

I power walk on treadmill for 7-8 miles at time

Hopefullyberidingsoon · 11/03/2019 17:26

Horse riding (quite intense as Im trying to improve/progress) 2-3 times per week plus associated horse care duties!
Have lost a stone in a year gradually without ‘trying’.
Also walk dogs 4 hours per week.

Parker231 · 11/03/2019 17:27

Two PT sessions a week - I need someone to make me work. Also two morning barre/pilates classes. Maintain size 10/12.

trendingorange · 11/03/2019 18:20

Walk the dog for approx 1 hour per day (good pace, but not really getting my heart rate up much)
Pilates
Horse riding
Tennis
Need to get back into running, but not sure I can be bothered until after the clocks change.

itssquidstella · 11/03/2019 18:25

I do yoga once or twice a week. Gym two or three times a week. Run once a week. Occasionally swim and cycle - I cycle more regularly in the summer and am trying to increase the amount I do both.

I exercise five times a week and have two rest days (usually including Friday because Friday = 🍷).

itssquidstella · 11/03/2019 18:28

At the gym i do a mixture of circuits, HIIT and boxfit - depends when I'm going and what takes my fancy!

Like a lot of PPs, I need the structure of a class to keep me motivated.

Geekster1963 · 11/03/2019 18:28

I started running five years ago to get fit and lose weight, I found I actually enjoy it and run regularly now because I enjoy it. I joined a really great running club a year ago and a lot of my social life is based around it and I've met some great peolpe and made friends.

Mmmhmmokdear · 11/03/2019 18:48

Running
HIIT
Yoga
Kettlebells / weights
Random dance workouts on youtube
Walking
Swimming

Something every day as it's good for my mental health. This is why I'm normal weight and not looking to lose anything!

fatpatsthong · 11/03/2019 18:48

I run very slowly once or twice a week. Almost always do a long brisk walk on the weekends too.

Have just started body pump. I do no weights/resistance stuff as I've always preferred cardio but I'm in my 40s with a dodgy thyroid so I need to work on my metabolism and joints. Have loved it so far.

I like a yoga and a low impact HIIT

Palominoo · 11/03/2019 18:53

Lots of walking/hiking with the dogs. Some weights at home and a wonder core smart thing which is brilliant for toning. I also use a thigh master a couple of times a week.

I know this won't be a popular opinion but women my age (50s) that have jogged/run over a few years have faces like bags of spanners, so I personally wouldn't run.

wontletmelogin · 11/03/2019 18:57

weight lifting 3/4 times a week. Spin class twice a week.

swampytiggaa · 11/03/2019 19:02

Running 🙂 I’m nearly fifty and don’t have a face like a bagful of spanners Hmm what I do have is a brilliant social life and more friends than I have ever had and huge amounts of confidence 😁
