What's going on with Rachel Riley?
She has done a complete character change and seems to be acting very bizarre attacking Jeremy Corbyn, Owen Jones over Twitter constantly and seems to get stranger by the day.

OP posts:

ohhh good to see Craig Murray being mentioned. I have hours of fun winding him up on twitter. He never blocks me to be fair.

BorisBogtrotter · 05/03/2019 08:05

Anyone noticed the person making the "Jew Process" joke is Jewish?

Thought not.

Danubia · 05/03/2019 08:25

@BorisBogtrotter

Grow up. That’s really not the incredible argument you think it is.

It’s perfectly possible for somebody to be say something that is racist towards an ethnic/religious group that they themselves are a part of.

Exhibit A - Kanye ‘Slavery was a choice’ West.

What is actually important to note is that this clearly antisemitic woman was one of the people claiming to be Jewish who signed that letter saying that Corbyn wasn’t an antisemite. You know - the one that he’s brought up in every interview since.

Funnily enough, several of the signatories have since turned out to be antisemites themselves. Causing me to question their judgement that Corbyn isn’t.

Anyone noticed the person making the "Jew Process" joke is Jewish?,

Sorry, what's your point?

BorisBogtrotter · 05/03/2019 08:57

Its actually hilarious. So someone who is Jewish is guilty of antisemitism for making a joke?

Is this antisemitic?

saxatablesalt · 05/03/2019 09:03

Yes, boris, I would.

Do you think that if you're a woman you can't be a misogynist? So if I, as a woman, said that Donald Trump wasn't a misogynist, would I be right?

saxatablesalt · 05/03/2019 09:04

I would as in yes - I would say that was anti semitic.

BorisBogtrotter · 05/03/2019 09:06

So something broadcast as satire on Israeli TV is antisemitic?

Righht, ok.

I have agreed before that there appears to be an issue in the Labour party, from a small group ( and it is small measuring complaints/ recorded incidents to membership), however if you are constantly looking for antisemitism you are going to find it in everything.

It also means that reasonable people, like me who is no Corbyn fan, start to question your motives on bringing it up on more and more tenuous links.

saxatablesalt · 05/03/2019 09:08

I find it hard to believe you're not a Corbyn fan given you're up on every thread like this defending him.

Answer my question. If I, as a woman, say something isn't misogynist does that mean it isn't?

BorisBogtrotter · 05/03/2019 09:12

It depends on which context you are saying it in of course, is the answer to your question.

I think if you want to go after Corbyn there are far many better things to get him on than tenuous links to antisemitism, or to the IRA, his general level of competence should see him voted out immediately.

Patroclus · 05/03/2019 09:13

long history of the self hating jew. Look at kapos.

saxatablesalt · 05/03/2019 09:14

It depends on which context you are saying it in of course, is the answer to your question

As is the answer to yours. Surely how you can see the context of the Jo Bird thing means it IS anti semitic?

Yet you sit here claiming anyone Jewish cannot, by default, be anti semitic.

Patroclus · 05/03/2019 09:14

And Jackie Waler also weirdly claimed she was jewish.

saxatablesalt · 05/03/2019 09:16

It's like when people are accused of being racist and say oh no I can't be, my best friend is black.

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/03/2019 09:17

Labour and Conservatives have a racial issue with anti Semitic and islamaphobic views.

Rachel Riley's problem is she is perceived by many as a 'bit of tv fluff' rather than an intelligent woman.

Her Twitter is a bit boringly one dimensional though - would be good to see her use her profile call out other racists

noblegiraffe · 05/03/2019 09:19

however if you are constantly looking for antisemitism you are going to find it in everything.

Well this is just bullshit. I rarely come across antisemitism in my day to day life, so the suggestion that it is in everything just waiting to be spotted is odd. Unless, I suppose you are routinely surrounded by antisemitism in which case you probably become quite immune (as I suspect Corbyn has from years of sharing platforms with dodgy people).

wasabiaddiction · 05/03/2019 09:29

Pieceofpurplesky - as RR is the target of antisemitism is not unreasonable for her to tweet about that and not other racism.

If you find her tweets boring, then there is no need to follow her. You are perfectly free to follow people that you find more interesting.

noblegiraffe · 05/03/2019 09:31

The chair of Wavertree CLP who proposed the vote of no-confidence in Luciana Berger is also, like Jo Bird, Jewish and a member of Jewish Voice for Labour.

He has been on a David Icke radio show spreading Jewish conspiracy theories.

Jewish Voice for Labour meetings must be interesting.

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/03/2019 09:44

Wasa I get that - it would just be good if she used her profile to raise the issue of racism in general. She has a lot of followers and is high profile.

noblegiraffe · 05/03/2019 09:48

She should also tackle misogyny, domestic violence, climate change and the issue of where odd socks go. She’s high profile so it would be good if she could sort it all out for us. I’m sure she’s not busy.

areyoubeingserviced · 05/03/2019 09:52

Op knows exact why Rachel Riley is behaving like this.
Op is being disingenuous and is probably the type of person who would accuse a black person of ‘playing the race card ‘ when the black person details the racism that they have endured

wasabiaddiction · 05/03/2019 10:32

pieceofpurplesky - Noblegiraffe replied better that I ever could.

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/03/2019 10:55

She chooses to discuss antismitism and the Labour Party. There is as big an issue with Islamaphobia on the right.

I am not expecting someone to campaign about everything - but if she is commenting on what is a fundamental problem in politics and has a platform where she articulately tackles one problem she could tackle racism in politics across the board.

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/03/2019 10:56

Much more articulately than me it would seem. I do have tonsillitis to excuse my poor grammar

gamerwidow · 05/03/2019 18:02

She chooses to discuss antismitism and the Labour Party. There is as big an issue with Islamaphobia on the right.
So what? Islamophobia on the right has nothing to do with antisemitism on the left. Yes they are both abhorrent but you can talk about anti Semitism without having to talk about islamophobia and vv.
Bringing up islamophobia everytime antisemitism is mentioned is dismissive and irrelevant. Very happy to come onto a thread about islamophobia and condemn it in the strongest terms but this is a thread about anti-semitism, stop derailing
