What's happened to Rachel Riley?

What's going on with Rachel Riley?
She has done a complete character change and seems to be acting very bizarre attacking Jeremy Corbyn, Owen Jones over Twitter constantly and seems to get stranger by the day.

OP posts:

Boris - see it is the weak apologists for all this anti-semitism that makes me really dislike the Labour party under Corbyn, and realise it just ain't going to get any better.

Can you really not hear yourself? Do you really think you can convince us we haven't seen or heard what we have? That mural was bloody blatant in its use of anti-semitic portrayals of Jews.. We all saw it. We've all see all the rest of it too.

Thymeout · 04/03/2019 16:59

Libby Laura Murray is related to Andrew Murray, a Unite official, who works part-time for Corbyn at Westminster. He only resigned from the Communist Party a couple of years ago. There was a security problem with giving him a HoC pass. I don't think there's anyone in Corbyn's office who isn't an old friend or connected to Unite, Stop the War or one of the fringe groups who were proscribed under Miliband and previous Labour leaders.

QuietContraryMary · 04/03/2019 16:59

"Why would any adult think it was ok to invite a 16 year old girl with health issues to London for tea and to 'talk'? I would certainly be asking questions if it was my daughter."

health issues? What is with this constant attempt to weaponise this girl's attributes?

And I'm honestly confused what you'd be worried about here? A Jewish actress inviting your daughter to tea is not exactly the same thing as being invited to Bill Wyman's dressing room or something.

It all comes across as 'how can we turn this harmless thing round into a nasty smear with unpleasant subtexts'.

And btw Oberman said she never sent any DMs. twitter.com/TracyAnnO/status/1083716987690340352

LibbyLily · 04/03/2019 17:02

@ThymeOut

It's quite astounding how nepotistic the Labour Party under Corbyn has become.

It seems that in the Labour Party far more than the Tory party, who your family are matters.

Phantology · 04/03/2019 17:04

'When Boris gets hauled over hot coals for racist bullshit, or May does, or even Javid calls for Muslim communities to take responsibility for combating terror groups, that gets passed over'

Johnson gets away with so much racist bullshit. That is certainly true. Incompetent May is fueled by her hatred of immigration. And Javid, well his desperate attempts to get the right wing people who despise him for being brown and muslim on side are pathetic.

Basically UK politics is a cesspit right now.

RoisinD · 04/03/2019 17:13

LibbyLily: 'So be careful what you say RoisinD or it might come back to bite you' Please explain. Is this a threat?

Everanewbie · 04/03/2019 17:18

RoisinD she means that RR and co. have litigated against people they feel have been defamatory and harassing them and suggests your bear this in mind when posting comments. A little OTT, but making the point that just because its online, there is nor carte blanche to post lies and abuse.

Not that you're doing that, but thats what was meant i think, not that she's going to duff you up or anything.

LibbyLily · 04/03/2019 17:21

'So be careful what you say RoisinD or it might come back to bite you' Please explain. Is this a threat?

Of course not. I'm merely pointing out that someone is being sued for falsely claiming that Rachel Riley called Corbyn a Nazi. You yourself have made that same claim on this thread.

I'm warning you to be careful of what you post because you're not immune to legal action on Mumsnet.

BloggersNet · 04/03/2019 17:23

Everyone is being pushed towards extremism on all sides.

Everanewbie · 04/03/2019 17:41

BloggersNet yep.

Pick a side. Stick to it. Your team are 100% right 100% of the time. . Question your team and you're a traitor.

The other lot are scum. Nothing valid to say on anything. They are wrong. Even if they agree with my team on something it is because their motives are wrong.

No nuance, no self assessment, no compromise. Decent politicians/commentators/activists can have civil yet robust debate, then wish their opponent a good day and have a drink together, maybe as friends.

I don't believe the left have all the answers, I don't believe the right have all the answers. The answers generally lie somewhere in the middle between fairness and compassion.

That being said, Owen Jones is still a berk.

RoisinD · 04/03/2019 17:49

Everanewbie: Thanks for you explanation but my question was directed at LL which she has now answered. I did answer your earlier questions to me just in case you thought you had been ignored.

LibbyLily: So it was a threat. Just so we are clear. I am very clear in what I said and thank you for your concern

MrsTerryPratcett · 04/03/2019 17:50

That being said, Owen Jones is still a berk.

We can all agree some things. Hands across the aisle and all that.

noblegiraffe · 04/03/2019 17:57

No nuance, no self assessment, no compromise

Did you see the state of what Angela Rayner had thrown at her on Twitter yesterday for daring to say she agreed with Tony Blair on some stuff?

The demand for absolute purity of thinking otherwise get the fuck out of the party is very scary.

LibbyLily · 04/03/2019 17:59

So it was a threat. Just so we are clear. I am very clear in what I said and thank you for your concern

Oh grow up. I'm not personally threatening you - I'm simply pointing out that your words could have consequences for you within English law.

Phantology · 04/03/2019 18:01

Owen Jones has hitched his wagon too firmly to Corbyn to back out at this stage.

tierraJ · 04/03/2019 18:07

I made a very gentle comment on the Campaign Against Antisemitism's FB page saying what a shame it is that some of the Left are anti Semitic as I consider myself to be left wing. Some of the other contributors liked my comment.
I'd said nothing else on any other public page & im not on Twitter.

A few days later I received an a message on FB Messenger from a complete stranger who had a Corbyn logo as his profile picture; he called me a 'working class traitor'.

Obviously I blocked him immediately but was left feeling extremely discomforted.

Like, what the fuck is going on?!

What if I'm on some secret list of 'who to get when Corbyns in power' now.

Btw I'm actually an anti fascist & I hate the tories & the Nazis & I hate their anti Semitism & islamophobia too.

Phantology · 04/03/2019 18:12

Creepy foot soldiers defending their Glorious Leader. Numpties can't see how offputting they are.

Namechangedforgoodreason · 04/03/2019 18:28

Don't worry I'm on the list too

What has gone on? Socialist Workers and the hard left have taken over the mechanics at the lower levels of the party

But unless Corbyn is the real JC he will go at some point. Hopefully soon. He has no clear successor on the far left. So we should resume business with someone with a couple of brain cells and integrity

In the mean time. Anti semites get out!

Justanotherlurker · 04/03/2019 19:30

Owen Jones has hitched his wagon too firmly to Corbyn to back out at this stage.

Owen jones is a hypocrite that the devout corbynistas know didn't tow the party line on a few occasions.

As an example, Rachel Riley has instructed a high-profile lawyer to pursue claims against a member of Jeremy Corbyn's staff who wrote that the Jewish Countdown presenter had claimed: “Corbyn deserves to be violently attacked because he is a Nazi.”

I think that was repeated here as well, but the as usual there is a Owen Jones tweet for every occasion.

twitter.com/owenjones84/status/965599866972975104

Jo Bird suspended for the "Jewish problem" comment, HNH pointing out a growing vocal problem amongst the left thats attached to the party, but no lets divert to Boris etc, if that doesn't work try the now old meme of "can someone point me to where Corbyn has been anti-Semitic because I don't follow politics and I don't like him, but..."

noblegiraffe · 04/03/2019 21:05

Jo Bird, the councillor who was suspended today for making jokes about ‘Jew process’ is a member of Jewish Voice for Labour and was one of the signatories to the letter to the Guardian supporting Jeremy Corbyn in saying that Labour doesn’t have an antisemitism problem.

The audio of her making the remarks is pretty awful, tbh.

Justanotherlurker · 04/03/2019 21:27

The audio of her making the remarks is pretty awful, tbh.

No corbynisa is going to respond until they have been fed the line by their chosen media outlet response.

Corbyn being the fresh air is another hypocrisy, I will bet in a couple of comments "muh right wing media" is mentioned.

Katterinaballerina · 04/03/2019 21:33

Their response to accusations that they’re not serious about tackling antisemitism within the party is to make jokes about ‘Jew process.’

Hands up anyone who can see the problem here.

Katterinaballerina · 04/03/2019 21:34

No, not that hand.

Justanotherlurker · 04/03/2019 21:44

Hands up anyone who can see the problem here.

Wow, you are going against the grain of Kinder, gentler politics that they they like to profess, your comment could be (if you squint enough) extrapolated into 1930;s thinking, if we ignore the fact you have been fooled by right wing propaganda it could be that your just a right wing troll or if in doubt russian.

I will bet however that once certain media outlets put out a response they will return to this thread or will start a faux innocence thread tomorrow under a name change.

Thymeout · 04/03/2019 22:32

Unfortunately, when Corbyn goes, the fact that there's not an obvious successor won't solve the problem. The Membership will always be able to outvote anyone else under the new system. There will be a Momentum slate and it'll be a choice between Richard Burgon and Rebecca Long-Bailey, or someone of that ilk, who can be relied upon to do what they're told by the unelected cabal behind Corbyn.

Milne and Karie Murphy have been transferred to the LP payroll, instead of the Leader's Office, so they won't be out of a job when the time comes.

When Corbyn refused to resign after the Vote of No Confidence, I thought that the PLP should resign instead and become the official Opposition, and get the Short money that goes with it. But I don't think anyone thought it would get that bad. The only hope now, I think, is for enough MPs under Watson to break away before they're gradually deselected and replaced by Corbyn loyalists. And then the Corbyn rump will wither away. The third of the members who never voted for Corbyn will switch sides, and I doubt if there will be a shortage of donors.
