What's going on with Rachel Riley?
She has done a complete character change and seems to be acting very bizarre attacking Jeremy Corbyn, Owen Jones over Twitter constantly and seems to get stranger by the day.

OP posts:

"I guess because people expect better of the anti-racist party?"

I guess so, but its hugely disappointing that its repeatedly one sided.

Abra1de · 04/03/2019 14:07

I’m neither Labour’s or Jewish but there has been a lot about RR in The Times over the last week or so.

Applescoop · 04/03/2019 14:12

The amount of anti-semitism around the world, let alone in UK politics, is terrifying. I applaud what RR is doing. The reason why JC is currently under such scrutiny is because there have a number of complaints and incidents about anti-semitism in Labour but though JC has spoken out about them (eventually - and only (sort of) accepting the international definition of anti-semitism) his party has done very little to investigate and censure wrong-doers. I can't work out if its apathy or anti-semitism. My bet is on the latter because he seems to have a lot of 'friends' (using his term) from international terrorist organisations (many from countries that wish to annihilate Israel). There are approx 2.7 Muslims in the UK and approx 300,000 Jews. Jews' votes are insignificant in the grand scheme of things so why bother, eh?

noblegiraffe · 04/03/2019 14:13

hugely disappointing that its repeatedly one sided.

That’s because there’s repeated anti-semitism feeding the story. Corbyn hasn’t helped matters by accidentally liking anti-Semitic murals, accidentally laying wreaths on the graves of terrorists, accidentally calling Hamas his friends and accidentally saying Jews don’t understand British irony. People tend to notice that sort of thing and run with it.

It's not one sided your just wanting others to focus on the side you don't like, when you have stuff like this going on in "Labour" there is no wonder people are focusing on it.

Oh for goodness sake, its because a whole bunch of anti-semitic people newly think that the Labour party is their natural home since Corbyn became leader. And because people speaking out against these people have been bullied as zinoists and as disloyal to Corbyn, with attempts to deselect them, and the bullying is not being addressed. And because under Corbyn's leadership they are seen to have been so weak at dealing with this. That is why Jewish people are feeling they need to leave the Labour party but not the Conservative party.

Supine · 04/03/2019 14:15

The Tory party certainly has an Islamophobia problem so it is a bit galling to see certain Tory politicians act appalled by the Labour's anti-semitism problem.

noblegiraffe · 04/03/2019 14:19

Just it’s ok because Rachael Swindon tweeted last week ‘whoops I didn’t realise mentioning the Rothschilds as having shadowy influence on politics was antisemitic, sorry everybody.’
It’s all just a horrible misunderstanding.

ItWentDownMyHeartHole · 04/03/2019 14:19

RR is very fucking brave. I’m so worried about the level of anti semitism in Britain at the moment. It’s always here and has always been within both the Tory and Labour camps. But now it’s foul, again. So many Corbyn supporters furiously arguing the case against people calling out anti-semitism and in the same breath using jaw dropping anti Semitic beliefs. I’m so sad. You expect it from that fuck Farage but genuinely, even with the economy in the state it’s in and Trump allowing so many people to say the unsayable, I really thought your man in the (British) Street might be more savvy. A bit kinder. It makes me want to cry.
Rachel Riley is doing great.

PinaColada1 · 04/03/2019 14:19

@boris you see this is my DPs argument, yet I do not see Corbyn do more than just say occasionally, I condemn anti semitism. He does not tackle the people involved, he does not root out insidious anti Semitic comments - he just says that it’s a non issue. All the while he is very public about support for people and organizations that are allied to anti Semitic views. I do find that very damaging.

PinaColada1 · 04/03/2019 14:21

More eloquently put, my point!

Justanotherlurker · 04/03/2019 14:22

noblegiraffe

It's even funnier because she has had her account suspended.

twitter.com/account/suspended

I wonder if she will be so "freeze peaches lol!!" about them removing her platform.

Supine · 04/03/2019 14:22

Rachael Swindon seems to be currently suspended from Twitter, but will be back soon enough no doubt with her begging bowl out again.

noblegiraffe · 04/03/2019 14:30

Ooh I wonder what she has been suspended for. Can’t be antisemitism because that’s rife on twitter.

Rade · 04/03/2019 14:34

Justanotherlurker That link is shocking!

Justanotherlurker · 04/03/2019 14:40

Sorry should have put the proper link in

twitter.com/rachael_swindon

Also it's been funny reading some of the comments around HNH latest report (I do have questions about HNH myself but that's another story)

One of the best so far is until now Hope Not Hate have been a good anti-racist organisation

myrtleWilson · 04/03/2019 14:42

my twitter enjoyment increased multifold the day I muted Rachael Swindon and Owen Jones from my timeline. (for political bias clarity I should advise I have also muted from other political parties - but RS and OJ have been mentioned on here)

MyBeloved · 04/03/2019 14:43

She's brave and wonderful. I have so much respect and admiration for her.

ShatnersWig · 04/03/2019 14:48

Please come back OP and defend your position

mothertruck3r · 04/03/2019 14:55

She's fighting disgusting racists trolls. What's bizarre about that!?

QuietContraryMary · 04/03/2019 14:57

"The girl on Countdown?"

She's 33 and she has a degree in maths from Oxford.

RhodaChrosite · 04/03/2019 15:00

I’m bloody glad she’s challenging anti-semitism. It’s not enough for Corbyn to keep popping up and saying he’s not racist and abhors anti-semitism. It’s hollow talk because what he does and what he doesnt do, seems in conflict with his words.

I’ve voted labour since I was 18 (now nearing 60) but since Corbyn, as a British Jew, I absolutely cant do so till he goes and a commitment to effectively tackling anti-semitism is shown. Good for Rachel Riley. I’m all for a quiet life but calling out any form of racism wherever you find it, is everyone’s responsibility imo.

gamerwidow · 04/03/2019 15:02

So what if other parties also have problems with anti-semitism. As a Labour supporter I expected something better than ‘well we’re only as bad as the other parties’. Stop glossing over anti-Semitic issues by saying ‘but the other side does it too’.
I don’t care if there are 2 antisemetic incidents on the other side for every 1 on mine, I still want the 1 to not happen.

Bluesmartiesarebest · 04/03/2019 15:05

Rachel Riley has been very brave in standing up to antisemites.

Jeremy Corbyn has repeatedly said that he condemns anti semitism but hasn’t actually DONE anything to deal with it. He has never engaged with the Jewish community about their concerns (other than a handful of minority Jewish fringe groups who hate Israel and hate the religion). He ignored a the Labour MPs who were getting death threats due to their support for Israel and Jewish people (note - not the same as supporting Netanyahu and the current right wing Israeli government). He’s a disgrace to the Labour movement.

Supine · 04/03/2019 15:06

I wasn't glossing over anything, merely pointing out the hypocrisy of Tory politicians claiming to be upset about Labour anti-semitism whilst happily ignoring the Islamophobia in their own party. Can people really not manage to be appalled by bigotry in both the main parties? Hmm
