That was my husband's theory based on the number of bungalows near the beach we visited. We stayed in Norrobro and it was lovely.

MamaDane · 01/03/2019 19:48

Sorry to butt in, but where in Nørrebro did you stay? I personally loathe Nørrebro and only go there because it's where our fertility clinic is located. Grin I cannot recognize the "lovely" description as it is also a place were my DP and I are cautious about PDA.

Iamdanish · 01/03/2019 19:54

Disfordark Glad to hear that. Nørrebro is hipster in some areas, and there are areas of nørrebro, where I wouldn't dare come when dark 😁.

My street was nice, not far from the lakes and a big park. It was an AirBnB.

Iamdanish · 01/03/2019 19:57

mamadane
That would be because of the ethnic diversity af the population at Nørrebro, I would guess?

OP posts:
Iamdanish · 01/03/2019 20:00

Disfordark that would be the outskirts of nørrebro next to Fælledparken. The area just around the lakes is EXPENSIVE 😀.

Denmark can be seen as a bit traditional in its ways. How are gay people treated in the rural towns and villages?

Well in MY rural danish village Ive not heard anything even mentioned about the lesbian couple. I thought they were sisters because they have the exact same walk. Ive seen them at church and no one ever battered an eyelid.

2 years ago a danish peoples party politician wrote in a letter to a paper that gays were sexual deviants. Her home village didnt want to be associated with that so within 3 weeks arranged a Pride parade which was great fun! I think 300 took part and there were more supporters. Population of said village is 941.

At a party i heard someone say oh thats so gay and it wasnt meant particularly nicely. So I said in english with fake concern: you know thats not a bad word, right? And they all looked suitably embarrassed.

MamaDane · 01/03/2019 20:01

Iamdanish Yup. Unfortunately we aren't treated as nicely in those areas.

Disfordark Ah! Close to the lakes is lovely. Near Nørrebro Station, not so much.

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/03/2019 20:02

We must have been in a hipster street. Loved Copenhagen, can't wait to come back.

redexpat · 01/03/2019 20:03

I'd say gays are more likely to be picked on vocally in a way that would be unthinkable in the uk. Its an easy laugh for a lot of comics to make a gay joke. But youre probably much safer as gender based violence happens much less often.

Iamdanish · 01/03/2019 20:05

Redex hopefully we will get there. The more positive stories, the better.
Nice comeback 😁.

Now heres my question you mystisk dansker Smile
How did you find Mumsnet?

MamaDane · 01/03/2019 20:06

redexpat Correct. Danes like offensive jokes, whether it's based on gender, sexuality, race, disability, religion, etc.

Personally I make them myself and don't see an issue as long as it's just a joke. 😁

Iamdanish · 01/03/2019 20:14

Redex
I don't even remember anymore. But was on a Danish online forum called the horse net, yes you heard it 😂, but it is packed with wise women and good advise, so I think, I took it from there 🤣. (It is for horse crazy people, but others, Too)

And yes to offensive jokes 😀.

. DH is Danish and we are very excited because we have just bought a fritidshus in north Sjaelland. Going there for the first time in April. I am fighting a losing battle about my deceased MIL’s furniture.
It is our Brexit defence.

Iamdanish · 01/03/2019 20:31

mamadane Good luck with your treatments 🤞.

That's a bit disappointing, that is, almost a third. I was thinking of moving to Denmark, buy a little cottage or something. But I didn't want a big gay community, I wanted to stand out a bit more. In Llandewi Brefi, I am the only gay in the village.

Do you have a Danish version of the Daily Mail by any chance?

Iamdanish · 01/03/2019 20:41

Hi Libra 👋
Congratulations on you cottage. Don't loose the old furniture battle, so boring living with things you would never choose yourself. Suggest to your dh he chooses a few things (preferably Small). He cannot live like his dm. Sorry I'm a tough one, and have been there 😁.
Hope others don't get the same Brexit defence idea 🤣.

Iamdanish · 01/03/2019 20:47

Llande oh, you mean like "Little Britain", sorry don't think you will get that kind of attention 😁.
Sort of yes to daily mail version.

Iamdanish · 01/03/2019 20:55

Hi Getting 👋👋
🤐 if you don't tell on me, I won't tell on you 🤣.

@Iamdanish

I hope that made sense :S

pineapplebryanbrown · 01/03/2019 21:06

Hi Danish where does Mads Mikkelsen live? What is the most fancy area of Copenhagen to live it.

The coffee in Denmark is amazing but when I asked for decaffeinated they looked at me like this Hmm

pineapplebryanbrown · 01/03/2019 21:09

Danish does everyone talk about how sexy and amazing Mads Mikkelsen is all the time in Denmark?

WindsfromtheNE · 01/03/2019 21:13

I have a Danish neighbour. She is very different from most English people in a number of ways. She's extremely community minded and is always out litter picking, doing stuff in the community and countryside. She's also very blunt, sometimes startlingly so, saying exactly what she thinks however it might be received. Obviously I'm not stereotyping all Danes but I'd be fascinated to know if these are common Danish traits.
